OutSystems helped us accelerate our application development

  • October 22, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
The thing that impressed me the most about Outsystems was how fast we successfully integrated with numerous other systems. It was amazing what we achieved in a short amount of time compared to projects using more traditional approaches.

In addition, the fact that all the infrastructure was ready out of the box meant we could hit the ground running from day one with stable and secure environments allowing us to focus on delivering value. One example of this is the single-click deployment which means pushing new versions of applications is quick and easy every time.

The other area where I think OutSystems has gone above and beyond is their online learning center. The courses are engaging and enjoyable. Even without a background as a programmer, I was able to achieve certification as an OutSystems web developer.

When I first looked at OutSystems, I thought it might only be suitable for creating small, simple, internal applications. However, this is not the case. We have successfully developed and deployed very complex customer-facing applications, which without OutSystems would have taken us much longer to create.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am struggling to find something to say here as whenever we have any questions, OutSystems support is always on hand to help us quickly resolve any challenge we might have.

One thing I would say is that when trying to convince traditional high-code developers to give OutSytems a try, there can sometimes be a misconception that you are trying to replace them or it's a tool they don't need it. But when it's presented to them in the right way, they can see that it is a tool that will allow them to do more, faster than before, and complement their existing skills and capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As I work for a consultancy, I cannot share exact details. We have helped our clients build numerous highly successful applications, which have helped accelerate their digital transformations and realize all the benefits that entails.

A great development platform for all

What do you like best about the product?
I have a wonderful experience with the Outsystems platform. I'm a professional certified Microsoft .Net developer and working on .Net technologies since 2013. As MS .Net technology is in the market for very long time, Its making rapid changes in last few years to sustain the market so I had to learn about latest changes too often. So thought to give a try this new platform and I was amazed how easy was too learn it and the capability of platform is remarkable. Great UI and development acceleration kept me never look back to .Net but I'm still on touch. Where earlier development with code writing was tedious job, its a fun to do with Outsystems. I'm enjoying it very much. Here are few things which I liked the most :
1. Rapid development as no code or minimum coding is involved. The acceleration of development is remarkable.
2. Easy to learn with free training material for everyone.
3. The responsiveness of member of community, members are too supportive and ready to help each other. A quick solution for our need.
4. Easy integration with other platform.
5. All members are open to share his idea to improve the platform and is taken in consideration with great extent.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its very difficult to write about it. I really don't think I have found anything to dislike . Here are some points need to improve in platform :
1. More explanation needed for some widget/tools with real time example in documentation.
2. Centralize synchronization between Producer and consumer module, so no need to use manage dependency frequent.
3. Better training material/documentation to build forge component.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I see low-code development platform as a future of traditional coding platform and Outsystems is one of the best to consider.

OutSystems, It's almost too good

  • August 18, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
The graphical user interface makes it a great platform for both novice and seasoned developers, with pleasantly balanced IDE visuals making it a pleasure to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main issue would be its reliance on the Windows OS. While not a deal-breaker, it alienates those who prefer a less mainstream OS for daily use
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Main issues being addressed:
1. The platform allowed seamless integration of data from multiple sources into a simple yet straightforward user interface
2. Fast integration of new business "products" to existing applications
3. The cloud-based nature of the platform gave the organization a more flexible solution, allowing developers to work from anywhere at any time. Additionally, being cloud-based it removed the need for any on-premise infrastructure reducing overall administration costs.

The platform benefits would be as follows:
1. Fast turnover of new applications
2. Easy troubleshooting using the built-in debugger
3. cloud-based, allowing access from anywhere with internet access
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The OutSystems IDE was developed primarily for use on the windows OS. that being said, support for Linux and OSX would be experimental where available. Outsystems support do advocate the use of virtualization software for running on other Operating Systems when needed

Faster TTM for developing apps for desktop and mobile, amazing resource for POCs and demo's and following them to production aftwerwards

Great enterprise low-code platform

  • June 28, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Good low-code platform with a low learning curve. It's easy to start being productive as a complete novice programmer.
- Interactive training, guided paths, and courses cover most typical use cases.
- One-click deployment and excellent application for development.
- Strong community and good repository of reusable open code modules, connectors, UI components, and business solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Still no dark mode in Service Studio, but I think that would come soon™
- CSS customization and js library management could be better.
- Some components do not work correctly in a few situations, like table inside another table.
- Reactive apps have no integrated pdf export solution.
- Validation becomes hard when using Web Blocks and/or reusable validation rules.
- Debugging is a bit tricky and isn't possible to debug an extension in a cloud environment.

I think that the fast road is not always the best, in some cases low code is not the solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Migrate legacy application to a cloud solution in a fast way.

An excellent tool with a low time-to-market and low learning curve

  • June 25, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Community support is excellent and answers questions quickly. I like that there is a low learning curve and that most of the questions I had were already asked and answered by others. I was able to build an app start to end in a little more than 2 weeks, and it was very easy to do so with all the features provided by the outsystems platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
I was not too fond of the lack of features in building a reactive app compared to a traditional app. It would have been much better if I could have used the features of a traditional app in the reactive app without having to use a workaround.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was building a timesheet and leave system using Outsystems. My main project was to research different low code platforms and then use one of them to create this app and see how easy or challenging it was. I think considering that I went from not knowing what a low code platform even is, to having a complete app in 2 weeks, Outsystems did a pretty good job with this platform. I also particularly liked that I could start from scratch and use different templates for each screen that I wanted and then personalize ot to my needs quickly and efficiently. The backoffice webapps provided by outsystems were also very helpful in user management and overall app management, although I ended up making my own user management system since I wanted it integrated in my app instead of being a separate website.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to build and deploy an app quickly, low code platforms are the way to go. There were many points where I thought that it would've been easy to implement this if I were coding, but overall this platform does help finish development quicker. I would say basic coding knowledge goes a long way, even though it's not absolutely mandatory. Whenever you get stuck, try googling it - chances are, someone else has had a similar problem in the past. The OutSystems community usually answers all questions considerably fast.

Minimal coding required. Customisation at your fingertips. Paired with Agile methodology, the platform provides a fast way to deliver apps that provide value to users.
What do you dislike about the product?
May have to work within platform limitations. Some components developed by third parties are not supported by Outsystems themselves.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solving workflow, integration issues and slow legacy apps. Benefits realised in terms of increased efficiency and productivity to work on application; and also easier access to apps.
