I create educational materials for organizations with a workforce of around forty thousand employees. These materials include pre-call briefs, instructional videos, and an alternative to email communication. Instead of relying solely on email, I produce concise videos that convey messages or updates to colleagues and teams effectively.

User-friendly content creation with intuitive simplicity and impressive results
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
It provides the ability to produce a substantial amount of high-quality content promptly. This results in a significant impact as viewers often cannot distinguish whether it's created by AI or a human. The content tends to generate a lot of comments and engagement because it holds people's curiosity and their attention effectively.
What is most valuable?
It offers several significant advantages over working with human presenters. When creating learning templates with humans, you often face challenges such as multiple takes, script errors, and discomfort in front of the camera. With this solution, you can select avatars, write scripts, and ensure flawless delivery, eliminating these issues. There is no need for post-production as the content is ready to be shared as soon as it's created. It enables to easily modify the content, and the original link will be automatically updated. This is a significant improvement over the traditional approach, where errors or updates necessitate taking down content, re-recording, and reposting. Another remarkable aspect is its user-friendliness. It's so straightforward that I believe most people could use it right out of the gate. Personally, I started using it without any prior research or watching tutorial videos, and it was remarkably intuitive and easy to navigate.
What needs improvement?
One of the issues we face is the variability in accents; there are hundreds to choose from, but some work better than others, and pronunciation can sometimes be subpar. Facial expressions may also not always be entirely accurate. Providing the capability to feature two avatars on-screen simultaneously for interactive communication would be a valuable enhancement. Improved transitions between different segments of the content would also enhance the overall experience.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with it for nine months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I experienced excellent stability with this solution. It has never crashed on me, consistently delivering the expected results. While content processing may take around ten minutes, it has been a reliable and smooth process.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of this technology is one of its advantages.
How are customer service and support?
I have reached out to their customer support team with questions, and they have consistently provided prompt and helpful responses. I haven't encountered any technical glitches, data losses, or content disappearing.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used to create video content ourselves, and we still do on occasion. This manual process came with its share of challenges, including lighting issues, sound problems, and the need for post-production work using Adobe Premiere. We also utilized a tool called XSplit for recording, but it was often overly complex.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was quite straightforward.
What was our ROI?
I have been able to create numerous videos, and I'm still in the experimental phase, which is what makes it so exciting. There are no limitations, and I can be as creative as I want, so I have definitely witnessed the payoff with the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When considering scaling up our usage of this technology, I did find it somewhat costly. It begins at around four thousand dollars for a full subscription, and although the price per subscription decreases when purchasing more, it can still be a bit of a hurdle, especially for limited content needs.
What other advice do I have?
It is an incredibly user-friendly and intuitive tool and there are excellent learning resources provided on their site, which I highly recommend exploring. One valuable resource I found was a guide on how to craft a podcast, covering topics like the hook and storytelling techniques. I would recommend starting with the basic subscription, which provides about twenty minutes of usage per month. It's a cost-effective way to familiarize yourself with the product and create content. This allows you to experiment and see the benefits firsthand without committing to the full subscription upfront. The flexibility to cancel the subscription at any time is a significant advantage. If you opt for this solution, I would say that it is essential to have someone imaginative and creative in charge of scriptwriting and content creation. The impact of the content largely depends on the creativity behind it. It's crucial to understand that writing for spoken dialogue is different from writing in a standard written format. Creative content writers can make the dialogue emotionally intelligent, thought-provoking, and empathetic. Overall, I would rate it ten out of ten.

Easy to use video creation software
An easy-to-install tool that is useful for creating instructional designs for training courses
What is our primary use case?
Synthesia's use for me was related to training purposes. With Synthesia, I could create instructional designs for training courses meant for a major corporation, the military, and one of my personal projects.
How has it helped my organization?
My company used Synthesia to help us with compliance training, and it was used to provide feedback during instructional assessments. I have used Synthesia to create introductions for a website on which I was working. I have also used Synthesia for my e-portfolio and to articulate a storyline for an e-challenge project.
What is most valuable?
In Synthesia, the avatars can be an area that can be considered the product's most valuable feature.
What needs improvement?
In Synthesia, there are plenty of areas where improvements are required. The main area of concern in Synthesia stems from its ability to add multiple elements onto a timeline, an area where I feel the product lacks in terms of its intuitiveness and user experience, and I had even complained to the company after it became nonfunctional. Though Synthesia made some changes to get the product working, it still is not as seamless as some other timeline-based non-linear editing software I have used.
I would like to see better use of audio in Synthesia. I think Synthesia's audio component could be drastically improved. There is room for improvement on how the audio part is integrated into a project and how it is manipulated and edited, along with how the volume and placement of the timeline are edited. Once a video is created, that process is kind of convoluted. I think there should be an easier way to determine whether your video is done and, if it needs to be corrected, how to correct it since these areas are not very intuitive. There's not a whole lot of direction available anywhere on how to do things well on the platform.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Synthesia for a year. Speaking about the version, I have experience with Synthesia STUDIO.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a four out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
I rate the technical support a six out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used a program that is very similar to Synthesia called D-IB, which was a lot easier to use. Though D-IB didn't have as many features and content as Synthesia, its avatars were a little bit more authentic and looked a little more real.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup was easy, and it wasn't hard at all. It is just that the product's user experience is not user-friendly.
The solution is deployed on my browser, Google Chrome.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Synthesia is a reasonable and competitively-priced product.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The only option I considered during the evaluation was D-IB.
What other advice do I have?
You need to be patient while using the tool. I avoid trying to do any projects that are very complex, especially when the tool's use is in its beginning stages. Maybe in the future, there will be improvements in the tool's GUI and interface. Right now, Synthesia is just for doing easy projects that don't require a lot of complex interaction with the user.
I rate the overall product a seven to eight out of ten.
Enhances the aesthetics of my projects and allows me to be more creative
What is our primary use case?
I use it to create training videos. Many of my clients provide me with written content that they want to convert into video format. Some companies provide PowerPoint presentations, while others give me scripts to turn into videos. Clients contact me to produce videos based on their content. But I've also used it for creating TikTok videos, social media content, and even commercial videos and testing.
How has it helped my organization?
As a freelancer, my clients have experienced cost reductions when creating videos. Using AI tools like Synthesia, as opposed to Adobe Premium and similar software, has made video production more cost-effective. This has been well-received by clients and has led to positive reviews.
What is most valuable?
The feature I find most valuable is animation. Compared to other AI tools I've used, like Kaspersky and others, they lack the flexibility and automation that this tool offers. It really enhances the aesthetics of my projects and allows me to be more creative, unlike those other products which are quite rigid and limited in what they can do.
What needs improvement?
One aspect I'd like to see improvements in is the customization of avatars. Often, clients want to use their own faces or company representatives as avatars, but they find the current pricing of a thousand dollars for a custom avatar to be too expensive. This cost is a turn-off for them. I hope you can work on this by either reducing the cost or finding a solution to make it more affordable for users who wish to have a personalized avatar.
One concern is related to the cost, which some clients have raised. The second issue pertains to moderation and time zones. I believe they should address this concern because, recently, during testing, I encountered a situation where customer service was unavailable to manually review a video demo. This manual review process is important to ensure that the video complies with their terms and conditions and doesn't violate any guidelines. The video review process can take around five minutes, and it's crucial to ensure that users are creating content within the specified terms and conditions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Synthesia for the past six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The only issue I've encountered is with video generation. There have been instances where my videos were placed in moderation. I reached out to their customer service, but they were not available at that time. I believe they should improve their customer support's availability and align it with various time zones. This way, they can better assist users when they need it, ensuring that I don't have to wait for an extended period when trying to generate a video for a project.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. They offer two, or maybe three, packages. Initially, there were just two: a personal account or membership for individuals and a family plan, which covers around ten seats. They also have an enterprise option for larger teams, accommodating over fifty users. This scalability is useful for various projects. For shorter ones, the personal account suffices. However, for more extensive projects, such as creating long videos, it can be challenging with the limitations of a personal account. In such cases, you might need to contact their support to upgrade your account to an enterprise level, allowing for more effective usage without the need to split the project into smaller segments.
How was the initial setup?
Setting it up is straightforward and user-friendly, even for those who may not be highly tech-savvy. When you sign up, the interface is clear and self-explanatory, making it very easy to use.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I have my personal account. However, when a project requires an enterprise account, I advise clients to get their enterprise accounts, and I work on those. Some clients prefer not to use my account and want me to use their own. In such cases, they provide me with their login details, and I create the videos on their accounts. This setup gives them control and ownership of the content, although it can be a bit tricky if they lack familiarity with the platform. I handle the costs, as well as any new features or enhancements they want to add to their personal accounts. They don't get access to edit the video directly in my account, so I encourage them to use their own personal accounts to have easy access to future edits.
The new pricing is fair and competitive. It compares well to other options on the market. The cost ranges from three dollars to approximately twenty-nine or even thirty dollars, with some specialized packages reaching the thirty-dollar mark.
What other advice do I have?
I will request this from them, depending on their enterprise focus. We are a sizable organization, and I would like to see if they can provide a solution tailored to enterprises. We have been using their platform for remote video production in our central installation business, and it has proven to be cost-effective. It has complemented our cost-saving efforts, as we used to spend a significant amount on both remote and on-premises solutions. Transitioning to their platform has been smooth, and it has worked well for us. If it continues to perform as expected, it might make sense to reduce our dependence on other HES platforms.
Overall I would rate it a nine out of ten.
