Carefully designed test steps can be reused many times.

  • October 21, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The reusable test steps made my work very easy. Test steps should designed carefully, to consdier them reusing for a following test procedure. The most basic algorithmic operations should be elaborated and developed into a test step including external parameters. It might happen to improve a test step by iteration-to-iteration to be completely matured.
Applying parameters makes testing procedures flexible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Generating report in PDF format was easy to complete by one click, however it could take significant time, and also, the document content was not rendered perfectly (scattered pictures).
In addition, the file size of a PDF-report could extent too large.
Hopefully, connection plugins could resolve this problem by the ability to transfer data directly to an accompanied application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By following test cases, a tester can easily complete the procedure. The administration is already included into the procedure, no need to take notes externally.
All testing iterations of a software are collected together to a remote server to generate reports of any perspective on demand.
All the oprations of testing procedure is transparent regarding all the small details of activities that are dedicated to certain dedicated user.
It is easy to join a test run even by unexperienced personnels, too.
Managing all the test procedure became more efficient, even if it took some preparation period (customizing, learning) to accommodate.

Best test management tool

  • April 17, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
- SpiraTest is great to manage requirements, test cases and bugs in one tool. It enables traceability between those entities.
- It offers vast possibilities of integration with other tools using addons and extensions (requirements, bug tracking, test automation). You can develop further existing addons or create your own addon to integrate your specific tool.
- Very good support
- Concurrent licences: If you have several users that use SpiraTest infrequently or users in shifted time zones, you can have many more user accounts than licences.
- Price vs. functionality is great
- Customization: You can add custom fields at every level.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Export reports to word/excel using XSLT Transformation: It is hard to create proper formatted word/excel templates including headers and footers. And sometimes you are limited by the db requests of each type of report. I switched to SSRS reporting to have more possibilities and proper word/excel templates at my former position. One example: create a RVM Matrix including the test steps of each test case. And yes the excel file was overloaded but our client requested it (the client didn't have access to SpiraTest). But standard reports are no problem!
- Pictures in test cases are not exported to word reports
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Link development with testing:
We use GitLab for our development. We manage test cases, requirements and bugs in SpiraTest. The bugs are synchronized to GitLab. The bugs can then be planned in GitLab and as soon as they are fixed the bugs change to resolved in SpiraTest to be retested. This gives us the traceability between requirements, test cases and bugs. As we create the bugs during test execution they are linked to the corresponding test step and the bug is prefilled with all the test steps of the test case. Therefore the developer can stay in GitLab. If he has not enough information he can easily switch to SpiraTest.
- Overview of the actual status of a product (bugs, tests etc.)

Perfect tool for specific needs

  • October 16, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
The tool at first sight look really good.
He offers a lot of key feature to do a test structure.
The UI is great and we are able to customize the product almost as we need.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Jira integration has some lack, every SpiraTest project have to duplicate Jira information.
The test cases, suite and run is prette hard to follow. We can't really have a good follow on the test runs because after a run the test cases have results and run disappear. And the versioning is really missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By using SpiraTest we had a great tool to stock our test cases, know if the last run fail or succeed and we can get some reports for the managers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I suggest to use SpiraTest for the company who are in no needs of versioning and suggest too to use the SpiraPlan suite to have a complete look on all the possibilities it has. We were all Jira base when we used it and can't switch the whole team on it, so maybe it's the reason it didn't go has expected, but I suggest to do the trial and the Spira team live demo before buying it. They are really responsive and can find solution to your problems.

Excellent features at a modest price

What do you like best about the product?
I've been looking for a reasonably priced test management solution for our small team over the course of many months. We mostly need to perform manual tests of key system controls during our SaaS providers' upgrades throughout the year. While I'm learning the product, it's clear it will grow with us over time. In addition, *every single time* I've thought "Gee, I bet SpiraTest doesn't do [fill in blank]," I'm proven wrong.

Some examples:

- Creating requirement from a test case
- Creating test case form a requirement
- Adding custom fields at just about any level ... adding multi-select custom fields...
- Pasting screenshots as attachments
- Customizing views (showing/hiding fields and moving them around)
- Moving *everything* around easily (test steps, cases, requirements...)
- Rich text formatting
- Customizing reports

Not only have I not experienced any pain points, but it's almost fun to use such a well-designed product that lets me get to work and get my job done efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing that I've found yet. Honestly, I keep looking for pain points and I haven't found them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need to document testing of key controls multiple times per year. Since they're *mostly* the same each time, it's fantastic to be able to fully put together the requirements and linked test cases for each duplication. Before, we were doing it in Excel which simply isn't the right tool. SpiraTest makes it so easy to spin up a new "Product" or "Release" with our pre-existing tests. The testers (business users) appreciate the simple interface and ease of attaching screenshots.

SpiraTest UI Can be better and simple

  • July 30, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the SpiraTest as a test management tool simple and does what it suppose to do
What do you dislike about the product?
At times the UI is lifeless and not user-friendly. Often my teammates struggle with filters, they never realize that some search filter is affecting their search.

It is slow even with a very good network, sometimes creating test case feels cumbersome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Test Management
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep UI simple

    Program Development

Very flexible and dependable Requirements Management and Tester tool

  • April 03, 2018

What do you like best about the product?
The Inflectra Help Desk is super responsive and the software has the features and integrations I need. Our developers use TFS for software development and version control and our testers use SpiraTest for all our testing needs. We enter the Requirements into TFS and they synchronize over to SpiraTest. The testers find the bugs and the Incidents (Bugs) show up in TFS. When the developers fix the bugs they come back to the testers for retesting -- all integrated and automatically between TFS and SpiraTest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Have to use a workaround to keep traceability by putting the TFS Requirement number in the title of the Requirement, that way when the test case is created and a bug is found, we can carry that number back over to TFS to identify and place the bug in the right row with its requirement and tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We saw deficiencies in the current MTM test package and looked for a solution that would integrate with TFS very well. SpiraTest is our solution for this integration. We also chose the CMMI TFS template and SpiraTest could also work with that with some custom fields. The fact that SpiraTest could be so customized made it the perfect choice for us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of creating manual test cases. I like the JIRA sync
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like having to scroll up to the top of the test case to select the buttons, such as add a step, add link, delete, clone, etc
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
creating clean test cases with tracking and reporting
Recommendations to others considering the product:
