Highly Recommended
What do you like best about the product?
Having Just-in-Time access controls to critical infrastructure, automated approval chains, and improved auditing for access posture has been incredibly helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it were easier to deal with inherited default access. There are solutions to this, but they require a bit of planning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Opal we have stronger guarantees around access controls, stream-lined reporting, and our analysts are spending way less time on monthly access audits.

Opal is an ops game changer
What do you like best about the product?
Before Opal, access reviews and requests were a painful and manual process. Now, we have automated, audited processes that allow us to focus on higher priority tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
User Access Reviews could be a little more feature rich (pre-assigning), and Jira integration was a little shaky.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Opal is allowing us to focus on more important work by automating user access and audits.
Excellent product with even better customer service.

The highlight for my team is how attentive Opal has been to implementing the product and how responsive their team has been to issues we encountered while setting Opal up in our environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't anything really negative I can say. Some features aren't available yet, but Opal is constantly upgrading and adding features to address this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Opal is going to reduce the amount of time we spend with handing access requests, providing just-in-time access to our users who need something quickly, and organizing our monthly user access reviews.

- Opal is still a relatively early-stage company
- The self-hosted deployment option is less mature than hosted

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Opal to control access to our infrastructure. Not only do our compliance certifications (SOC 2) require this, but it's also part of the core security posture that we sell to customers.
Granular access management
What do you like best about the product?
Granular controls and settings. Ability to integrate with Pagerduty for automatic access provisioning for people that are on call.
What do you dislike about the product?
Interface not as interactive/end user friendly as other solutions we have seen.

(Automatic) authorization through Pagerduty integration, lean request/approval processes for one-off access

What do you like best about the product?
At Merge, we're all about security. We have numerous security certifications and must ensure we're following industry best practices. Using Opal, we've built exactly what we need. Time-based access, easy Slack-based approvals, and flexibility to use it for anything, including internal tools, have made it a game-changer.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't much we don't like about Opal. Obviously a world where they connect to every tool in existence would be amazing, but it's not realistic, and their flexible webhooks enable us to connect it to anything we need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Opal has helped us ensure we follow the most critical security practices and protect our customer data effectively.
Essential security platform to enforce least privilege
What do you like best about the product?
Opal's platform has allowed us to manage our GCP environment in a SOC-2 compliant and secure manner. We can easily demonstrate that our critical databases and servers are time-bounded, have escalation paths, and are fully audited. Our developers love using the platform - Opal's CLI and Slack bot are slick!
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall, we have been delighted with Opal! The team has been responsive to our questions and feedback. If there's any constructive feedback, I hope they can expand their list of integrations.

To help improve our SOC-2 process, Opal has enabled us to implement access management best practices right out of the gate. The implementation only took a few days, and our team barely needed time for onboarding since most of the workflows are out of Slack

What do you like best about the product?
The Opal team is really great. They're really responsive and very helpful. It's clear that they're eager to make their customers happy.

Nothing comes to mind right now. We've been able to get new features and help as we need it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted to increase our security posture by limiting who at our company had data to what, and Opal has been very effective at allowing us to do that as we grow quickly.
The best permissions management platform on the market
What do you like best about the product?
Opal's has designed every feature perfectly. I personally LOVE their least privilege automation. I can comfortably know that someone who was given production database access while they're oncall won't have it after their rotation. I've also heard resounding reviews from our more technical engineers on its implementation. It's definitely made for developers and admins intelligently.
Lastly, the Opal team always seems committed to our success. They follow up regularly and clearly communicate when anything (rarely) doesn't go as planned. A team of rockstars who will treat you with respect.

What do you dislike about the product?
I had to sit here for a while to come up with something I'm not happy with so take that into account. If there's anything I could say is lacking it would be that they aren't self service. I've heard they're working on this, but right now you have to schedule a demo to see the product which is sometimes something I'd rather not do. What I will say though, is it's well worth it to go through their process. Their success team alone dramatically improved our quality of life and honestly for such a complex organization like ours its helpful to be guided through it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Opal is helping us solve least privilege and manage our most sensitive aspects of our business. We are able to carefully manage, audit, and maintain an amazing practice around permissions. This means our teams are more productive and we close more deals by being able to focus less on SOC/SOX/ and ISO compliance.
