What do you like best about the product?
The best feature of milestone is its capability to integrate with a vast number of different products. In addition the security professionals I have worked with at Milestone are very knowledgable about their product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the in house analytics are great, but Milestones ability to integrate to other 3rd parties makes up for that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Milestone is the backbone of our security program. We are using it to simplify the workflow for the security officers and standardize responses to incidents/issues that arise. The alarm manager has been of great benefit in testing of analytics both in Milestone, 3rd party integrations and on the edge.

What do you like best about the product?
The Milestone interface is easy to use for our administration and staff. We have not had to spend a lot of time training new people in it's use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The client needs a reasonably capable computer to run well, so sometimes we have had to swap out for better hardware.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Supervision of campus in education environment

Powerful and easy to configure open protocol product

  • December 20, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've been using Milestone now for a number of years from back when it was Xprotect professional and now run expert and our main reason for moving was its a truly open camera system and we can use any vendor we choose for cameras. Coming from previous closed protocol systems with camera lock-in and older analogue systems its been a breath of fresh air and it means we can easily move to whichever vendor has the latest and greatest camera tech.
Installation is pretty simple and straightforward and a server can be built and running in a day depending on your estate size. Now the disk tiering has gone its also a lot easier to manage storage and the long term low framerate option is great for squeezing the best out of limited disk space.
We also use the free 5-camera version for little clusters of research cameras. Really handy for setting up quick little networks for specific tasks.
I'd also mention the gpu encode/decode support has really helped in the later versions. I'd love to see AMD and ARC support instead of just Nvidia, but this has allowed us to run an entire videowall from one PC with a couple of relatively low spec Nvidia cards.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support of late has been problematic. We used to be able to log calls on the milestone portal, but now you have to go via a partner and our partner is not very responsive. Being able to log directly was a major benefit that saves time and a lot of hassle.
Migration to new hardware is getting better, but its still not great the backups from the system will only restore to the same hardware. I'd like to be able to replace the server and do a restore.
It would also be good to have some more intelligence/AI/ML etc. Back when we first started using milestone it was cutting edge, but we are seeing features on-camera on our latest models that can do a lot of things we wish Milestone could.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Open protocol camera use so we can use any hardware and we can utilise our own datacentre server infrastructure.

A reliable and easy to use product

  • December 20, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
XProtect can run for months without any human intervention. Solid, reliable and ever ready. After 12 years of use, I am still finding features that meet our new, growing needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Licencing system is clunky. Support via the re-seller can take a while. You get what you pay for - and hence it is pricey.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
24/7 protection of staff and assets.

What do you like best about the product?
Xprotext was user friendly and easy to navigate through setup was basic as well as easy to export needed videos.
What do you dislike about the product?
the least helpful thing about Xprotect would be the retention time is not that great. our company needs longer retention times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
xprotect is keeping our team members safe and allowing us to watch not only the team members but also the robots on the floor. business performance has increased and machines stay running longer now because we can see an issue before it ever happens.

Video surveillance software that manages 190+ cameras

  • January 13, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use and the custom creation of user accounts allows us to pass along specirfic permissions and access to end users. Also, the export process and ability to pull footage from multiple cameras is seamless.
What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing.! We must go through a reseller to add licensing to any new cameras into our system. The process typically takes more than a week. Must plan accordingly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is excellent for managing and viewing lots of cameras. It has continued to grow with us as we have increased our camera count. We are able to continue to custom create views to help users see the additional cameras
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Licensing.! We must go through a reseller to add licensing to any new cameras into our system. The process typically takes more than a week. Must plan accordingly.

XProtect is a solid product, but leave something to be desired

  • September 14, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
XProtect works well when it is up and running correctly. It allows you to easily see multiple cameras from multiple locations, set up custom views, and easily export video for security needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The server licensing is expensive (especially for back license costs), and the server tends to struggle when several users are logged in. We had to set a task to reboot the server every night in order to kick everyone out of the system who doesn't log out, otherwise, the video lags and audio/video do not sync correclty.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use the system to monitor security cameras and export video for both discipline and occasional police requests.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Either set up some way to log everyone out of the system, or set a task to reboot the server when not in use. If you have several users this will cause latency issues.
