Castor: Insights from a Product Analyst's Perspective
What do you like best about the product?
Efficient and user-friendly, CastorDoc offers excellent document management and strong security features. The customer support is notably responsive and helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
For users with specific needs, the addition of more advanced customization options would enhance CastorDoc's versatility. Also, optimizing performance during peak hours could further streamline the user experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CastorDoc effectively simplifies accessing and managing data documentation, along with its underlying sources. Its versatility allows for easy sharing of information across teams, enhancing collaboration and efficiency. This feature greatly benefits users by streamlining document handling and communication processes.

Lineage graphs, AI query explainer, Metadata Manager, Mass Propagation of fields.

Some of the integrations are a bit cumbersome but work in the end.

Product is changing so fast it's hard to catch-up with updates; although they strived to communicate more on updates

What do you like best about the product?
Integrating different data systems and analyzing their interactions has become simplified and convenient. We feel enabled us to optimize our data pipelines and make informed decisions based on reliable insights. Cannot wait to see what Castor does with AI integrations.

Castor's table and column lineage options are impressive, but a more comprehensive view of data and streamlined metadata export functionality would elevate the platform to a perfect data catalog.

What do you like best about the product?
- Customer Service: The Castor team is incredibly responsive to feedback and gives us quality attention to better understand use cases.
- Its search yields much more relevant results than the search within any of the individual BI tools I've used.
- Cross-tool lineage is a game changer and enables efficient impact analysis of rapid back-end data changes as well as deprecation of unused data assets with confidence.

What do you dislike about the product?
Hard to come up with one. More of a feature request, but an item on my wish list would be the ability to filter lineage by BI tool.

What do you like best about the product?
Castor makes data much more accessible and efficient to use. The search allows you to find your data wherever it might live, from source tables to data models to dashboards and reports across various data tools.
As an analyst, I commonly search for fields and tables, using the results to build queries more quickly.
Additionally, Castor offers a robust table and field lineage, allowing quick visual access to data from the source to use in specific data tools, e.g., Looker, and Metabase. These lineage features enable easy evaluation of the downstream impact of data changes.
While I have not done much work with documentation yet, the robust features allowing documentation syncs will make managing field descriptions and other documentation accessible to more users.
Lastly, the team at Castor is a pleasure to work with and is always responsive to feedback and feature requests.

So far, I have not encountered much not to like. The team at Castor is constantly releasing new and useful features.
It would be helpful to allow the copying of field names in a query format in bulk from the table result pages e.g.

Castor makes it possible to search all data assets in one place. The primary benefit for me is the efficiency this brings.

Castor has been a game-changer for my team's effectiveness. When our source data changes, we can easily determine which dashboards are affected and which ETL code needs to change.
Castor's velocity in releasing new and improved functionality is impressive; we delight in seeing the new feature announcements.

What do you dislike about the product?
This isn't a dislike, more of a feature request. I would like to be able to download the lineage diagrams in a diagram format so I can include them in documents (instead of a screenshot).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Complete visibility into data usage patterns and dependencies - this allows us to focus on the most crucial work with confidence.

What do you like best about the product?
Castor is very straightforward and easy to use, navigate, and search to find our data, determine what it is, and how it's all connected. It's been a vital resource in helping build out and maintain our vast data bank.
I also love that it is continuing to advance its capabilities and features. They are receptive to feedback and requests and make things happen for our use cases.

What do you dislike about the product?
A little more automation with copied descriptions would be helpful. There are instances where data is the same and we have to copy and paste multiple times in different areas.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have an immense amount of data coming from different pipes, at different times and Castor helps us understand what that data is, where it comes from, and how it is being utilized. It is a place that any employee, in any department at our organization can go to find what they need.
