Avanan gives your Security and IT teams the Email Advanced Threat Protect tools it needs.

What do you like best about the product?
Since going live with Avanan enterprise-wide, we have a considerable decrease in phishing and malicious emails making it user inboxes. Our Security team also enjoys the workflow from within the portal to respond to users submitting a request for restores if something is in quarantine. It has given our team TIME back during the day to move onto other tasks. Also, we have the confidence of knowing the Avanan service is protecting us. If our leadership asks us a question now if we had an issue, we now can answer that question with facts and evidence.

Also the deployment of Avana service was done in less than 10 mins...never in 22 years have I see a service be deployed that fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not come across any dislikes about the project that I can speak about. There are some customizable items I would like to see (but not a dislike) and any feature requests have been submitted to their support site.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For the first time, we have visibility into an area the Security team has never had before. We see how many phishing, spam, and Shadow IT activities. What used to take 30-45mins between Security and IT Teams to manually find emails and purge, now the Security team and do it in less than 3 mins and without having to involve another team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We looked at Mimecast, Microsoft, Proofpoint and Avanan. Security and IT teams did a POC and from the start, we noticed value with Avanan. We knew we wanted it before the POC ended.

Easy to use, seamless integration and great protection

What do you like best about the product?
Upsides: It's very easy to set up. Hardly takes 15 minutes to set up with Office 365 considering the service sits inside Office 365. The protection functionalities are easy to determine with a great-looking dashboard and easily available drill-down options. If you have a small team, they would love to use it with the summary reports and quick lookups.
Their scoring on the phishing index is quite valuable and provides a comparison between MS and industry benchmarks. The security rules and actions are easy to configure and deploy. The insights provided based on suspicious IP's and malicious events in real-time help a ton. The dashboard allows a very easy way for our teams to figure out the status of malware, phishing, shadow IT, alerts and anomalies by a quick look. results can be dug is based on these.
What do you dislike about the product?
We are yet to leverage the full functionality of the product with respect to DLP and figure out if we run into any challenges. We compared the product with others and did not find a disadvantage on any parameters.
However, the below areas can be improved upon:
1. We would like to see the AI being more adaptable and scalable in terms of timing.
2. We would recommend a training module on preview features that can be delivered as bytes size videos or a quick call with the support team as a demo.
3. The industry is getting more competitive in terms of pricing and feature sets that work perfectly. If we can add a level of protection that can go beyond email security and look at various other threat vectors to mitigate APT, it would be highly valuable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has helped us stop a ton of phishing attacks and spam email. Also, it provides a good understanding of Shadow IT in the organization by figuring out the various cloud-based applications that are subscribed using corporate email addresses. The dashboard allows a very easy way for our teams to figure out the status of malware, phishing, shadow IT, alerts and anomalies by a quick look. results can be dug is based on these.
The weekly reports provide a great deal of value while presenting the numbers to executive management and our teams do not need to spend time generating them. The analytics and audit feature is extremely useful to solve various challenges that might arise.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's an easy-to-use platform that solves the majority of the concerns and risks with a simple, easy to use interface. Our team loves the product and has been able to leverage the best of it in a very short span of time. We would recommend you to spend quality time on the demo and understanding the product. The Avanan team is helpful to extend the demo by a couple of days if needed to showcase the business value for various scenarios.
Keep the list of questions long to clarify all use cases for the business. Their team is patient to answer or find the answers when needed.

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use and navigate through the UI.
What do you dislike about the product?
So there is not to say on the negative side. However, it is critical your team understand mail flow to capture all features within Avanan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Spear Phishing attempts directed to the executive suite occur in every business, it has specific features to ensure these type of events do not affect the security posture of the company.

Intuitive UI, intelligent protection

What do you like best about the product?
Avanan's UI is extremely easy to use, even when it gets to the more granular settings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Bit of a double-edged sword, but Avanan is constantly working on new updates. While we obviously love the new features and Avanan is extremely willing to help out when they get released, it sometimes gets tough when we log in for day-to-day and see a new feature/UI/etc. Would love to see a public roadmap with these changes so we could plan ahead of time. Not major though, so far there haven't been any changes that caused problems/investigation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had no antiphishing solution prior, besides Microsoft's built-in with E3. We've seen a significant uptick in phishing emails actually getting blocked and Avanan's UI is much easier to use than Microsofts!

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of implementation Avanan with our O365 environment was fantastic. The Dashboard and on-demand reporting makes KPI management for security metrics a piece of cake.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing that I dislike about this product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using Avanan Advanced Anti-Phishing Bundle for Office 365 Email, Outbound DLP Connector for O365, Data Loss Prevention, Lastline: Sandbox Threat Emulation. One the many benefits was visibility of corporate security policy violations via the Shadow IT metrics.

What do you like best about the product?
Biggest selling point was true API integration into our O365 tenant, protecting not only email but Sharepoint, Teams, etc. During the demo I felt the interface was intuitive and effective. And the price was very competitive with the alternatives. Support has been responsive and effective (only contacted a few times so far).
What do you dislike about the product?
Training the AI to weed out false positives is fairly straight-forward, but not much transparency on whether any difference is made. There is one kind of false positive (possible impersonation) that can't be trained out of the system and requires a manual whitelist rule. Considering the number of these we get, that list is growing and I feel it undercuts the whole AI/Machine Learning concept.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed another layer of protection from ransomware, social engineering, etc. Something that was fairly hands-off (small team) and intuitive to use. The combination of growth in our organization and end user technical ability required something more than what is inherent within O365. Aside from that protection, there is a side benefit of introducing our users to knowledge of these kinds of attacks and actually thinking about email/file security. We do plan on introducing actual security awareness training but the warning banners and notification of possible problems is an easy and non-invasive way to prep them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're already within one of the other competitors ecosystem (Barracuda, Microsoft, etc) you might find it hard to break out. But the native API differentiator is huge (IMO) and worth a very close look. My impression is that many of the traditional security vendors have only grudgingly entered into this SaaS/API arena as they already had services/hardware that were great 5+ years ago and still making a profit. Don't be afraid to go with the best option that's unencumbered by that legacy. Since this is a SaaS product you're not committing to a 3-5 year deal and can easily move elsewhere if/when you need to.

What do you like best about the product?
Avanan was very easy to integrate and configure for our environment without needing weeks to customize. Being API driven the PoC was simple to setup and non-intrusive. Even once we were in production, we have rarely needed to make adjustments. Typically only login to confirm and approve quarantine release requests from users.

We were very impressed with how modern its dashboard is compared to some of its more well-known competitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
A few minor annoyances, such as some search fields are case-sensitive that should not be. Feature-wise it is very complete.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were ready to replace our on-premises email gateway migrating email to the cloud and wanted a cloud-based security solution to no longer be dependent on on-premises appliances for mail flow. The anti-spam and anti-phishing filtering is much improved over our previous solution cutting down on the number of incidents requiring our intervention. The impersonation workflow has been great giving us another layer of protection against bad actors.

Email Security made easy, elegant and essential!!

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is simple and straight forward, there is a beta preview and I have seen a few improvements, not that any were needed, in reviewing the alerts and emails. Email security has been and continues to be a primary driver for my IT department. Avanan has given my company insight into the emails in a concise, easy format to review.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like it better if the default view of geo logons, those that are made from various locations would be for successful logon not failures. This generates a bigger number and looks worse to the reviewer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a great tool, I have prevented a few accounts from logins after a geo listing issue and inquired. This has helped admins mitigate compromised accounts.

DO the trail and work it with various members of your team.

What do you like best about the product?
Since implementing we have had zero security breaches, but many attempts - love te reporting showing attempted breaches and number stopped
What do you dislike about the product?
Actually very happy with the product - nothing I really dislike - was easy to set up, easy to configure and maintain. Love the dashboard - much easier than having to wade through all of the MS 365 security and figure it out - and since it sits in front of MS 365 it catches stuff before it even gets in. Also, tech support is very responsive - so nothing to really dislike (so far).

What do you like best about the product?
Since we implemented this, virtually we get no phishing emails and I haven't had an issue with any malware in our enterprise anymore. Its helped my helpdesk be able to be more productive since we have less cases involving malware, spam and phishing
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much to dislike, the support is extremely fast in responding. But would like the option of phoning in if there is something important we need to ask but since they are so fast in responding, not the hugest deal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not only is helpdesk not getting complaints about emails from people which was our intention. It is also saving our end users time, since the inboxes are cleaner and they can respond to real emails instead of weeding through phishing/spam emails.
