Avanan has an easy integration and is a great additional level of security.
What do you like best about the product?
Avanan's easy implementation allows us to stand up our environment in literally minutes. It is a set it and forget it environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the UI is a bit obscure. Everything can ultimately be found, but because it lays on top of Exchange, it is sometimes cumbersome to to track down emails.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems were between 2 365 tenants that both had Avanan - we implemented some additional transport rules that created some false positives and email loops.

Start with a POC, it is a great way to begin

Great Next Gen Tool Covering the Bases for Multi-Layered Application Security
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to install and trial. Light to manage. There's a great API connection ability which is cleaner and better than traditional gateways. The continual scanning of not only email but One Drive, Sharepoint is critical.
What do you dislike about the product?
Needing the extra mailbox license for quarantine. I get why it's necessary just wish there were something else build so that it weren't required.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phishing, Spoofing, Impersonation attempts. Ransomware, 0-day malware etc..
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use a next gen tool with API. Enable multiple layers of security for protection across devices, clouds, and user accounts/productivity tools.
Avanan works great with Microsoft 365
What do you like best about the product?
The email reports are very helpful and convenient. The dashboard is very informative and easy to get a really good overview of what all Avanan is doing.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside is having to sign into a portal other than Microsoft 365 admin portal to manage the service. This is only a small inconvienience, however.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are mainly using it to help prevent phishing attacks. We also are monitoring email for malware, and monitoring Sharepoint and OneDrive for unusual activity. Avanan is keeping track of "Shadow IT" accounts which are basically services that are signed into using our business email addresses. This allows us to easily see how responsible our users are being with their corporate accounts.
The user interface is pretty intuitive. It makes it pretty easy to define policies and actions for Avanan to take based on automated findings. The Dashboard is very complete (and customizable) and gives you a really good overview of the state of your systems without having to dive too deep into the menus. You can sort items many different ways to discover trends in targeted attacks and careless user behavior. Avanan makes it easy to define and test policies before taking action on a mass scale. In the event of a false detection, it is quite easy to reverse any action that Avanan took, such as quarantining files, stopping delivery on emails, etc.
Avanan also gives you the ability to view email source and headers. This is quite helpful, and it will also allow you to view the entire body of any communication that comes through the corporate system. This can be essential in remediating irresponsible behavior such as using corporate emails for personal reasons.
Avanan has caught many phishing attempts directed to our users that Microsoft's filtering missed. Avanan has also stopped potential malware from being delivered to our end users. We have been alerted due to a high volume of file deletions in Microsoft Sharepoint. Avanan has discovered and quarantined malicious files in some of our users' OneDrives, that they were unaware of. The weekly email reports are quite convenient for a quick overview of actions that Avanan took, and once logged in, offer suggestions for other actions or remediations.

This is a great and full featured product. The setup can take some time, but you need to make sure you have a good idea of the things you wish to accomplish prior to setting it up.
Best and Easiest Software Ever!
What do you like best about the product?
Super user friendly and straight forward. I did a lot of research to find the right solution for our small business and I landed on this one. Super easy to implement! The most coverage, and easy to maintain. Also, a huge plus that it protects the cloud and isn't just a gateway protector; as in what if its already in the gate?! Covered
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a big deal. but sometimes the site doesn't update when you dismiss items. Or the items flagged will stay on the dashboard even after dismissed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Small business email protection was the main aspect. And protecting within the Microsoft platform. Definitely a huge difference. It has caught numerous phishing attempts and impersonation attacks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Some other platforms are pretty hard to implement so make sure you ask, that was a huge selling point for us.
Avanan provides Peace of Mind
What do you like best about the product?
The dashboard showing incidents makes it easy to manage - I like being able to quickly see what alerts are current and need to be remediated. Additionally, Avanan makes it easy for our users to request an email be released in the event that Avanan mistakenly blocks a sender.
What do you dislike about the product?
Having to maintain two blacklists - one in Exchange and one in Avanan. If there was an easy way to import/sync Office 365 black/white lists so that I didn't have to input entries twice (which is probably redundant anyways - but I'd rather be redundant than too lax), that would make administrating Avanan in conjunction with Office 365 a bit easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to reduce phishing attempts from making it to our user's mailboxes, which reduces the overall risk that we experience as an organization when considering email risk factors.
Affordable, effective, intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
Implementation was extremely easy. We started with a 30-day trial. Their engineer worked with me to get this setup and we were up and running in just a few minutes. By the next day, we could already see a lot of malicious emails getting blocked. The interface is very intuitive. It's easy to search for messages, submit for reanalysis, send to or release from quarantine, etc. We were looking specifically for email protection from phishing and whaling. Protection of OneDrive and SharePoint files is a nice bonus. Their support team has always been responsive and very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have occasionally seen email delivery delayed by up to 15 minutes. Examining the headers show the delay is after Exchange Online forwards the emails to Avanan, and before Exchange Online receives it back. This doesn't occur often.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prior to Avanan, users complained often of spear phishing and whaling. Specifically, emails impersonating our CEO requesting changes to bank account information were being received multiple times per day. We would also see the standard emails asking us to purchase iTunes gift cards, etc. After pilot projects with several vendors, Avanan came out on top. It was the most cost-effective option, and among the more effective solutions. We still see very few false positives, and almost no phishing/spam emails get through anymore. Avanan, plus our user education and testing efforts have drastically reduced the burden on our help desk to deal with these issues. In addition, Avanan also detects malware in our OneDrive and SharePoint libraries.

I highly recommend doing a POC and prove to yourself how intuitive and effective Avanan is.

What do you like best about the product?
Phishing protection is excellent, API protection is the only way to go. It catches more emails that Microsoft with ATP enabled. If Avanan's services go down for some reason (which they haven't yet), then your email doesn't go down. support is excellent. Sales process was by far the easiest compared to Mimecast and other services.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is on the high side for email protection. There are the occasional rough edges in the web gui. They need a knowledgebase instead of always having to contact support.

Phishing is a huge security issue these days and Avanan seems to be the best way to block it that I can find.

It's easy to use, not resource intensive and learns on the fly with AI

There really are no downsides. Make sure you're continuously scanning

Excellent Office365 Provider
What do you like best about the product?
Continue to grow and mature in the security space and provide new ways to protect your Office365 resources and data. They stay up to date with any added features to the MS Tech stack and ensure that their solutions meet the needs of their customers. Love the way they are proactively reaching out to customers to allow them to try-out their newest tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the beginning, not much from a roadmap perspective; now they are very proactive in providing not only their roadmap but also test drive and experience their new ways of protecting your Office365 environment. Honestly, there is NOT MUCH to dislike about their solutions. Perhaps it may be their cost, the DLP solution was expensive compared to the Cloud Email Security solution.
