A reliable solution that integrates well with several intakes, but it can be a bit expensive

  • October 27, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Collibra is for the classification of data. Collibra is being sourced to all the intakes for the company, which might be legacy systems or new systems or might be lineage as well. Collibra takes up and does its own governance over there, and the data is fed into Ataccama. Ataccama and Collibra seem to be cascaded, but Collibra is the first player. But that doesn't mean it saves a lot for Ataccama.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable features are its scalability and how it can be integrated to any other intakes.

What needs improvement?

Collibra gives a lot of facilities in the cloud, but achieving those facilities on-prem becomes a big challenge. Collibra should loosen up those areas there and try to give stakes for that. The uses can vary. They can be limited to a small amount, or they can be a huge chunk. If Collibra thinks the utilization should be controlled and monitored by them on a cloud level, making for highly scalable data, it's good for them. But when the customer needs it, Collibra will be in the minute volume, in which case they will go for the on-premise service. That's what I feel Collibra lacks because some things cannot be integrated for on-premise customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Overall, Collibra is a stable tool. Because of the scalability, the volumes are big, and you must have patience. That's where Collibra gets conflicted. There is highly scalable data with big databases connected. You'll need patience to wait for the batch lists to be completed. Calibra is slow but stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Collibra is highly scalable. Since Collibra works with Ataccama, 60 to 70 people use this solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is exhaustive, but I cannot say that it's difficult or easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Collibra is a bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Collibra only when customers have a very sparse intake. Such as if they have primitive lineages and data sources that they cannot make obsolete or remove. Suppose they have varieties of intakes. In that case, I definitely would ask customers to go for Collibra. That's not because an intake can be integrated into Collibra. The profitability is that Collibra is integrated at the output end. The team is working on visualization. The service team is very preemptive and efficient. Collibra will give you a good scoop. If a company is vast enough and has various intakes, databases, and sources, Collibra is good for them.

I rate Collibra a seven out of ten. Depending on the client, the rating may vary. If someone has told you that they have various sparse intakes and need to govern their data, Collibra will be a nine out of ten. But for a company with a limited intake, I would say that Collibra would be a load for them on the price side.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Collibra Governance is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

Collibra Governance's initial setup is complex.

What about the implementation team?

It takes more than 15 to 20 days to deploy Collibra Governance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Collibra as data catalog solution

  • January 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
-Easy to find information using data marketplace capabilities
-Easy to classify data leveraging the auto-classification feature of the platform as well as edge.
-Automated metadata ingestion using JDBC drivers, quick to configure
-Easy to build workflow using workflow designer capabilities
-Easy to catalog business reports e.g., tableau and attach them to KPIs
What do you dislike about the product?
basic search functionality is not very user friendly specially for those who are using collibra 1st time without proper training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collibra really helps to manage data products and is easy to explain to our senior stakeholders who are not very technical by leveraging data lineage capabilities. Also the best platform for data democratization. It also helps to implement data mesh when leveraged together with other technologies.

Collibra Data Catalog review after using it for the last 6 years in various roles.

  • January 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Definitely, the most vital point of Collibra is the whole concept coming with the tool - Education platform (University), Community (Data Citizens), Advisory (Adoption Services) and then the software itself. The competition very often focuses only on the solution only, without those additional components. We need to remember that the capabilities of Collibra are enormous but the adoption of the tool would not be possible without proper trainings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, there are several weak points of Collibra. Very technical and not intuitive User Interface heavily impacts the end user's experience. All people without technical knowledge have many issues at the beginning of their Collibra journey which gives a really bad first impression. Very often without any training, nobody in the organization is able to use the tool and understand how metadata is structured there. Those aspects prevent especially business users from the adoption which impacts overall governance programmes in many enterprises.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company was searching mainly for a tool that will replace dozens of information sources and finally act as a single source of truth for the information and metadata management. The biggest benefit that we see is the fact that one solution saves several minutes and hours every day in a life of a Data Steward who no longer needs to jump from one file to another to get the proper info needed for the daily operations.

A solid data cataloging and governance tool with ever improving features and usability

  • December 28, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
A highly flexible tool with many integration options, the ability to build powerful workflows and ever-improved features and functionality. There is also a great community with people pushing what the tool can do in imaginative ways.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI can still be difficult to navigate for new users; there are almost too many options sometimes for them to explore. The user license model needs to be updated for scaling across large companies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily having a central catalog populated and governed by SMEs, allows evidenced based conversations to be had across a global company, which have never happened before on a comparable scale. Applied standards, definitions, and ownership have been made easily accessible to the whole enterprise, which has meant applications of these can be understood and, in some cases, challenged where assumptions have been made and the possibility of standardisation.

This helps the business understand its data and the importance of data governance and management.
