What do you like best about the product?
The easy User Inetrface (UI) and to implement it is also easy to work with it and the one place one application to get all data catalog/dictionary/lineage/qaulity so easy to toggle rather looking for buliding connections with multiple tools. Even the Integration on the tool with other tool is very easy.

Provides data cataloging, creates a data lineage, and automates business processes

  • July 23, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Collibra Governance is used as a data governance tool to manage your business metadata and technical metadata from various systems. Customers also use the tool to provide a data cataloging option, create a data lineage, and automate some of the business processes.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is data cataloging. The solution's data cataloging feature is mainly used for data discovery. Nowadays, data cataloging enables the data marketplace to share data within enterprises. That's another enablement that Collibra Governance does.

What needs improvement?

When you have a huge amount of hierarchical data to manage, the solution's performance tends to decrease.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Collibra Governance for six to seven years.

How are customer service and support?

Sometimes, when we face an issue, we resolve it by ourselves. On other occasions, we contact the solution's technical support team. I wouldn't say that the technical support is excellent. The support team struggles to resolve the issues 60% of the time. However, they are able to resolve issues the remaining 40% of the time.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Many of our customers I spoke to felt that the solution is a bit highly-priced.

What other advice do I have?

I sometimes recommend Collibra Governance to our customers based on their requirements and environment. Most customers look forward to having a data lineage function, but I haven't seen any tool that satisfies the customer requirements, including Collibra Governance.

The solution has primarily enabled some of the compliance reporting through data lineage reporting. When you have data cataloging with complete metadata enrichment and identification of PII and non-PII, it helps customers control and manage them properly.

If a customer does not have the appetite to procure Collibra Governance because of the pricing models, we may recommend a different product with cheaper prices. Collibra is working on building a new product for AI governance. I want to see how Collibra's data governance and AI governance will relate to each other.

Most of the customers we deal with are looking for a tool to resolve the data lineage challenge. However, none of the products in the market seem to be resolving the customers' data lineage issues. Vendors like Collibra, Alation, and Informatica could work on it and provide a more comprehensible solution to the customer.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Faster and more efficient than manual methods or other tools like Informatica

  • July 01, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We created custom data models in Collibra Lineage for domains and communities. Under each domain, we created databases and linked data dictionaries. We set up workflows by linking controls, which were attested by control owners quarterly. All of this was automated.

What is most valuable?

The solution allowed us to quickly and efficiently implement our data governance operating model, including accountabilities, regulatory lineage, and data dictionaries. This was much faster and more efficient than manual methods or other tools like Informatica. I prefer Collibra Lineage for its self-service capabilities.

I created a use case and gave users access to data stores, allowing them to implement their data sets easily. In contrast, Informatica requires a dedicated team of IT experts to handle these tasks.

The solution's APIs can be seamlessly connected to anything.

What needs improvement?

It would be better if features like the privacy module and AI-based Collibra DQ were included in one package instead of being separate and requiring additional costs. Currently, the basic package covers lineage and documentation, but the extra modules come at an extra cost.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I never had any issues with the tool's stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the solution's scalability a nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's support is good. They would come to us whenever we had any issues.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The main differences between Collibra Lineage and Informatica are significant, particularly for small to mid-sized organizations. First, Informatica requires a dedicated team, which incurs a huge cost, making it less suitable for smaller organizations. Second, Informatica's tools are very scattered. For instance, to create a domain, you need to use Axon, and then for lineage, you must use EDC. For profiling, Informatica Developer or Analyst is required. These different tools are not well-connected to display everything on one screen. While Informatica is trying to improve with its cloud version, not many users have adopted it yet. These are the two main areas where Informatica lags.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. Collibra Lineage engineers helped with the setup by getting on calls with our IT team. I also benefited from its resident architect program, which provided a dedicated employee to assist with creating workflows. This was more efficient and cost-effective than hiring an external IT person.

For deploying Collibra Lineage, we needed four people: myself as the lead, one IT resource for backups, the Collibra Lineage resident architect, and one person for uploading data. The process took three to four months to complete. It doesn't require much maintenance. The solution provided a dedicated person for our account who informed us of updates. Our IT guy would then handle the update easily.

What other advice do I have?

We had Collibra Lineage at Bank of the West, which was acquired by BMO Bank. BMO already used Informatica, so we had to switch from Collibra Lineage to Informatica. The tool's team was very supportive during the transition. In the future, if we have a chance, we'll choose Collibra Lineage again.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

We have been using Collibra Governance for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable and reliable. I rate the stability an eight.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable, but the extent to which it scales effectively depends on how well it is designed and implemented.

I rate the scalability an eight.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product's pricing is high, which its comprehensive features and capabilities may justify. However, the cost can be a consideration for smaller organizations or those with limited budgets.

What other advice do I have?

As a data governance advisor, I evaluate various solutions based on their fit for the client's requirements. While I recommend this solution when it meets the organization's needs, there are more than one-size-fits-all solutions.

Integration with it can vary based on the client's IT landscape. For some organizations, integration is straightforward, while for others, it can be quite complex.

Its user interface is generally user-friendly, but it could benefit from some enhancements to improve ease of navigation and customization. While functional, a more intuitive design could help users operate the platform more efficiently.

Its performance can vary depending on how well it is configured and the scale at which it is deployed.

It has strong data privacy and security features, including robust encryption and access controls. It is designed to comply with various data protection regulations, crucial for maintaining data security.

It offers extensive customization, allowing tailored configurations to meet specific organizational needs. However, achieving this level of customization often requires considerable time and technical expertise.

It has strong user adoption and satisfaction due to its comprehensive features and capabilities. However, user experiences can vary based on the organization's specific needs and the solution's implementation.

I rate it a seven out of ten.

Offers data scanning in Schema and product customizations with outstanding stability

  • April 03, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Collibra Governance is used to maintain and govern our company's data and evaluate the data quality.

What is most valuable?

Collibra Governance allows users to scan the data in the Schema and check its quality. Our organization's business customers add their company data to Collibra Governance and use data visibility to evaluate how the data can be increased or utilized for some business decisions.

For example, if you have ten columns in one table and assume one column has a couple of null values, Collibra Governance will identify and show you the number of null values present. The identified columns can be further manually checked and altered to enhance the total data quality.

What needs improvement?

The solution's search functionality can be improved. For instance, if I search with one piece of data, the tool provides a granular level of data and sometimes billions of data results, among which it's extremely difficult to find a relation. Instead of the aforementioned type of results, the solution can provide a hierarchy based on levels that reveal data upon click.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Collibra Governance for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a nine out of ten. The product is highly stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. It's a satisfying data quality evaluation tool.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the tech support an eight out of ten. The response time from the support team can be further improved. But an immediate response cannot be expected for Collibra Governance because it's not a critical product with urgent use cases.

Whenever, our company has faced issues or bugs while implementing an update of Collibra Governance, an extensive wait time has been encountered. The response time from the support team can be improved based on the issues faced or in an ad hoc format.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

For the initial setup of Collibra Governance, the vendor's product team assists our company. At our company, we deploy Collibra Governance on the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Collibra Governance is extremely expensive. The solution is provided as a whole package, and users cannot avail of only a particular set of features; the whole package must be purchased even if it's not required.

Collibra Governance will face competition once a data governance tool hits the market that provides basic features at the ideal cost. The pricing model of Collibra Governance should be more flexible for clients.

What other advice do I have?

At our company, we have used the data catalog feature. Collibra Governance is the top data governance tool in the market. AI capabilities are already being introduced in Collibra Governance. The data lineage feature is also used in our company for data harvesting.

Based on the business requirements, we customize the solution if needed. I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. I would recommend Collibra Governance to others.

Makes data more discoverable and transparent, but the support and documentation must be improved

  • April 02, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have a full-time user interface in-house.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution makes data more discoverable and transparent.

What is most valuable?

We can easily connect to sources. It is like plug-and-play.

What needs improvement?

The workflow documentation must be improved. It is our number one pain point.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for six to seven years.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service is bad. It is not the best. I rate support two or three out of ten. The support team must be communicative and stay in touch with the customers.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

How was the initial setup?

The core functionality is good. The initial setup becomes challenging if there are any vulnerabilities or changes because not much documentation is available.

What other advice do I have?

I am using the tool because my current organization decided to use it. My previous organization used a more enhanced tool. There are other tools with better functionalities. Overall, I rate the tool a six out of ten.

Provides good Data Stewardship feature, but cannot do element-to-element level data tracking

  • March 07, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution's Data Stewardship part. We tried to explore the policy management piece, but we were unable to get through it. We haven't worked excessively on that. It was just some POCs or MVPs, but this is something that we would like to explore in the future. This is something that will be our future requirement in six to seven months down the line.

What is most valuable?

We use the solution's Data Stewardship part.

What needs improvement?

We are not able to ingest all the data in Collibra, and that's why we cannot do element-to-element level data tracking.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Collibra Governance for two years.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the solution's initial setup as medium because it's not very difficult. We have to look at a few nuances from the infrastructure and performance perspectives. We have to consider whether we would have the leverage capabilities for that. So, all these things need to be considered from the engineering side.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Collibra Governance is an expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

Our current focus is more on the solution's stewardship, cataloging, and reference data features. The one feature of Collibra Governance we would like to explore is the automated tagging of PII data. We do deal with such kinds of data within our organization. It would be helpful if there were any videos available for us to go through because this is something that will help us in the near future.

We are not extensively using the solution's data lineage functionality because we are simply building over it. The only challenge for us is from the connective side. We are not able to ingest all the data in Collibra, and that's why we cannot do element-to-element level data tracking.

The major Broadlock would be the integration piece. If that is done, we'll be able to have all our data in the Collibra. The data lineage functionality is a really good feature, and we would really love to leverage it. The challenge is that the connectors are not available in the pipeline.

Collibra Governance is deployed on the cloud in our organization.

Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Has efficient feature for endpoint lineage, but they could provide wide range of connectors

  • March 07, 2024
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

The product’s primary use case is metadata management. It helps us capture different datasets, including images, glossaries, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

Collibra Catalog has significantly enhanced data governance and compliance for our team, primarily through its valuable feature of endpoint lineage enabling visual representation of the data. However, it takes a lot of manual effort for the same. They could introduce more features to align the process.

What needs improvement?

A key area for improvement in Collibra Catalog lies in its integration capabilities, particularly with a broader range of sources such as MongoDB and others. It is a time-consuming process for the engineering team to set up custom connectors. Thus, they could provide a wide range of connectors to address this issue.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Collibra Catalog for three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product’s stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We encounter complexities in scaling the platform. It requires a lot of manual effort. At present, we only have 60 to 70 users in our organization. Our objective is to implement it for around 2000 users per month.

I rate the scalability a six out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I haven’t interacted directly with the technical support team. From the higher-level perspective, there have been interactions regarding our requirements, although the turnaround time for addressing the issues needs improvement.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is complicated in terms of accessibility for enterprise users. Determining the optimal number of licenses for an enterprise proved to be a complex task, adding a layer of complexity to the implementation. For governance, they should include customized workflows.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is highly priced compared to other vendors. It becomes a challenge as we have to incur additional costs for widespread connectors that are unavailable in the product. It takes a good amount of time and effort to build custom connectors as well. There could be better integration with other systems instead.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Collibra Catalog to others and rate it a seven out of ten.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)
