Routing and WAN security
One of the best router distributions
What do you like best about the product?
Vyos is my go-to for router/firewall distributions. It's pretty much a swiss army knife of router/firewalls thanks to the extensive feature list.
Vyos is a highly versatile networking solution that can be deployed on a range of hardware, from low-powered mini PCs for basic home routing to high-performance enterprise servers and virtual machines. This flexibility allows it to cater to a wide variety of users, regardless of their environment or specific needs.
Vyos supports advanced routing topologies and a comprehensive range of routing protocols. It also offers robust VPN support, including protocols like WireGuard, IPSec, and OpenVPN.
Recent versions have integrated HAProxy, which has proven to be extremely useful. The firewall configuration is intuitive, easy to manage, and effective.
By far, the command-line interface is my favourite feature of Vyos. It makes setting up firewall rules, NAT rules, QoS rules, site-to-site, or roadwarrior VPNs extremely easy to implement. I haven't seen any other router/firewall distribution with such a versatile and easy-to-use command-line interface.
Vyos also has an API which can be used to configure Vyos using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
The documentation is generally excellent, featuring many examples. While some sections may occasionally be slightly out of date, it’s usually easy to adapt them to newer versions with minor command adjustments.
I haven't had to talk to customer support directly, but I have reported bugs via their bug tracker, all of which have been promptly resolved.

What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really think of anything I dislike about VyOS. I've been able to do everything I've wanted to do in VyOS pretty easily.
If I had to be extremely picky the only thing I would say is, even though there is VyOS Stream coming soon, it would be nice if there were something like a lower cost home user/self-service/hobbyist license option to get access to the normal LTS release. Though with Stream coming soon, and with the nightly builds being pretty stable it's not a massive concern, just something that might be a good option as some users (including me!) would prefer to run LTS at home to match what we have in our "production" environments.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've used VyOS in a varity of different scenarios.
I've used Vyos as a router/firewall for a small business network, and I also used it at home for my personal router, and also my parents home router.
I have also used it to configure site-to-site VPNs between various cloud providers.
Currently my favourite use case has been to bypass CGNAT by using the built in HAProxy function to proxy traffic over a Wireguard tunnel just because how easy the configuration is.

Experience with VYOS
What do you like best about the product?
VYOS in my experience is very stable and upgrade process is also very easy. I used it in my HomeLab and it had many features like IPSEC, BGP even some new routing protocol like babel. Containerization in another thing i like the most where you can download Docker images so integration was easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
now that LTS version you cannot build it yourself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
VyOS is very fast VPN with services like Wireguard and IPSEC with ease of use like juniper .
PPPOE server and IP POOL
What do you like best about the product?
I like BNG service. It is free and very good for small business
What do you dislike about the product?
I have to know hardware resources because if I don't know about it, I cannot use service powerfully.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PPPOE name pool service. Now upgraded.
Long time users since Vyatta 6.1 and can't think of anything better for our needs
What do you like best about the product?
We find VyOS very easy to use, the CLI is very intuitive and particularly familiar if you come from a Juniper background. It's very easy to get installed and you can build up configuration slowly without tying yourself up in knots, it'll give you useful messages when things aren't working. Although we don't have a support contract ourselves, we've found the VyOS developers and staff very supportive and welcoming. We've used VyOS ever it first started as a project (moving away from Vyatta 6.1), so we've been using either Vytatta or VyOS since 2010 and have never stopped. The fact that it has a built in PPPoE server makes it very easy to allow other routers (e.g. OpenWRT) to sit behind VyOS and get a public IP.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really think of any. Obviously from time to time you might wish it had an extra feature or two, but nothing that you can't suggest or contribute yourself... as it's an open source project.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Function Office leverages VyOS to enhance the IT infrastructure of our Seaquake project, enabling us to provide no-cost IT services to other non-profits, community groups, and charities who receive help through our IT Outreach programme.
Independent, robust and affordable emcomm gateway
What do you like best about the product?
We can use a wide spectrum of hardware and tailor the software to fit our needs, its affordable and have so far been very robust.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have so far not experienced any downsides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Main problems are budget limits and availability of flexible solutions. Vyos is free for us to use, supports affordable hatrdware and has been possible to customiza.
