Enterprise governance has transformed how we automate terraform and manage policy as code
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features Scalr offers include Policy as Code, governance, and centralized Terraform state management.
Having Policy as Code and centralized Terraform state management is crucial because we have to write a lot of policies for our customers, and doing that manually is cumbersome. Policy as Code provides a templatized way that is scalable and automated, which is really helpful for managing our day-to-day operations.
Scalr has helped bring consistency and governance to our workflows, especially at scale, and it is a strong product.
What needs improvement?
Scalr's UI and documentation could be more intuitive, especially for first-time users.
During onboarding, I identified the need for improved documentation, especially for first-time users navigating various challenges, which has led to some struggles in finding the right answers in the documentation. Better search capabilities and more comprehensive documentation that is easy to navigate would be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
Scalr has been used for around one to two years in production.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
From a stability standpoint, Scalr stands out, providing a strong governance model and fine-grained access controls tailored for Terraform usage, which has been really helpful.
How was the initial setup?
The specific outcomes since adopting Scalr include the initial setup being planning intensive, but once configured, it has been quite stable and easy to operate.
What other advice do I have?
Scalr is a strong choice if someone needs enterprise-grade Terraform governance, but it is essential to plan proper onboarding and policy design upfront.
