The assistance in getting setup made this experience an excellent one.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that you can schedule everything from phishing testing to training as a result of the testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Given the assistance support supplied me, I haven't experienced anything that I dislike. Any minor issues were dealt with quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were dealing with staff clicking on links that they shouldn't. With the testing and training, we've reduced the number of clicked links.

An Organizational Approach to Analyzing Phishing

  • November 06, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
PhishER provides an easy and intuitive interface that helps us manage the large volume of emails coming into our school district. The product makes recommendations based upon the likelihood that an email is a phishing scam and then allows our team to deal with the issue quickly. I also like that PhishER constantly gets better at identifying emails that could be a possible threat based upon how we tag the emails that are pulled. Once we identify an email as a phishing scam, we can remove that email from other accounts across the organization quickly and easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
PhishER is a new product for our organization this year, and we have not found a negative aspect to it. The dashboard interface is very intuitive and straightforward to use, and the features are apparent.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a K-12 school district, our employees receive a wide variety of phishing attempts. Our IT staff spend a great deal of time chasing down reported phishing scams. Phish ER has simplified this process significantly and, in turn, has freed our staff up for other high-priority projects.

What do you like best about the product?
Automation! Previously users forwarded suspicious phishing and spam emails to the Helpdesk. With the Phish Alert Report Button, the user can report suspicious emails and, the system examines and pulls the suspicious emails from the user's Inbox.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not found anything that I dislike about phishER. During the initial setup, I would have preferred more in-depth training and understating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Help with standardizing and educating end-users in recognizing phishing emails. The tool reduces the effort and action taken by the Helpdesk.

I wear many hats one being the person that uses KnowBe4's phishing, training and PhishER platforms.

What do you like best about the product?
I'd have to say the thing I like best is that our users can flip us suspicious emails by clicking the Phish Alert Button.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing at the moment. It seems to work great thus far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The fact that our users can catch emails that Mimecast did not are a true benefit to this solution.

Powerful and effective, yet easy to manage

What do you like best about the product?
The PhishER dashboard is amazingly detailed with critical information right at your fingertips! We love that drilling down to the details is as simple as clicking on an icon. The "inbox" is where our administrators primarily work out of as they quickly and easily evaluate all of the reported phishing emails. The implementation team was extremely supportive and eager to see our onboarding be a success, and because of them it was! After onboarding, any question we submitted to support via email was taken care of very promptly, and it always included links to related FAQs or knowledgebase articles. Speaking of those articles, they have crisp and clean write-ups for nearly every situation, complete with screen shots and step-by-step instructions that any engineer can follow. The key to PhishER is the Phish Alert Button (PAB) and deploying that to the user community was straightforward and easy. We quickly had it deployed to O365 for both the web interface (thin client) and Outlook on the desktop (thick client). Add in the ability to automatically remove phishing emails from all mailboxes, and that is where the magic really happens!
What do you dislike about the product?
Having a separate portal for the training & phishing testing vs the PhishER portal is cumbersome from an administrative perspective. These should be integrated in more ways than just a single link hidden under the username profile menu pull-down. It is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. The placement of the Phish Alert button in the Outlook web interface was changing as we implmented which made it very confusing for our users. While this may not have been KnowBe4's issue, it was not brought up that Microsoft could impact that placement. For PhishER to be effective, you must have user participation, and with that training is needed for your users. The administrator training skipped over that very important item, and it only came up after we were down the road of deploying it to our user community.
This solution is "post inbox delivery". In other words, it is not a filter between the internet and your user's inboxes. This tool is focused on "post delivery" remediation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our small organization was getting a large number of phishing emails. Our employees are excellent at spotting malicious messages, the reporting and remediation process we had in place was disorganized and inefficient. PhishER gave us the ability to streamline the reporting process and, in some cases, automate the remediation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Work closely with the implementation engineer. PhishER is not a complex product to deploy, and they know the process far better than anyone else. Communication to your end-users is critical to your success, so build that into your plan. Do not rush. Include in your plan training the administrators on effectively using the PhishER system as users begin reporting messages.

What do you like best about the product?
PhishER's ability to flip a phishing attack into a training exercise for your employees to learn from and reduce the threat to your business.
What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation in the administration tool can be challenging to locate what you are trying to find.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to analyze and prioritize messages promptly has been a significant benefit. Before, it would take days to determine if a message was a threat.

What do you like best about the product?
Working with the account team to help set up the campaigns. The dashboard makes it easy to manage and see what's happening for each campaign. Great Training videos.
What do you dislike about the product?
We just started with KnowB4 and haven't found anything I dislike yet. The initial 'secret' campaign did scare many people who reached out to us and we were unsure how to handle the mass questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We hope to educate our team on recognizing phishing/spear phishing emails. Overall cyber security education to help better protect the company and individuals.

phishing emails are now reported on a much easier way; we have reduced the risk of opening dangerous emails
Recommendations to others considering the product:
it is a great tool, you don't know until you have it then you can't live without it

Useful, Effective

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to pull all infected or suspicious emails (PhishRIP) from the company network before "the usual suspects" have the opportunity to click or open malicious attachments brings a great deal of peace of mind. PhishFLIP's ability to create a testing opportunity out of what was once a genuine threat is also valuable, as it creates a "real world" training experience. Integration with VirusTotal allows automated scanning of links or attachments which speeds up response time
What do you dislike about the product?
There is some room for improvement in the automation of resolving reported emails. Setting up rules is not particularly intuitive and, having not seen a volume to justify it, I have not spent the time to figure it out. Additionally, the query process for PhishRIP feels unpolished as it's not always easy to narrow down requirements. Also, if the reported email comes via a chain of "Is this safe?" emails being passed around, the original contents (sender, recipient, etc.) can become lost in the traffic and queries can become impossible to create effectively.

The inherent flaw with the PhishER approach is that it does little to mitigate ongoing attacks. This is in line with KnowBe4's approach to CyberSecurity in general which emphasizes the "human side" of cybersecurity, but can be frustrating when you're being bombarded by a specific attacker who is hoping his persistence will pay off and PhishER offers no way to shut down specific users, domans, IP's etc. All of that needs to be done at the firewall or ESA level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multiple instances of widespread attacks have been shut down, quickly and efficiently. This reduces the time spent on addressing the attack and minimizes vulnerability.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
As we are now looking at replacing our end-of-life ESA, we are discovering that there are other companies that can offer more holistic packages that include the hardware, the training, and the software. PhishER was something we added on as part of our need to implement training and so, at the time, working with KnowBe4 made a great deal of sense. However, now that we are looking at replacing our ESA I would have preferred to opt for a total-solution package. This is not because I am in anyway dissatisfied with KnowBe4 or their PhishER product, but because I dislike having to manage multiple tools and will always opt for more complete integration in a centralized package where I can.

If you're in need of a "total package" hardware, software, and training oriented security solution, there are, I think, better options - albeit far more expensive ones. But if you're looking for something to add onto your existing security measures, then KnowBe4 is an effective and affordable option.
