Canto Review
What do you like best about the product?
Canto is super easy to use and the facial recognition is really slick. I also like the external portals for outside contributors. We don't use half the features available but I can see how they could be super useful for those that could use them.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is pretty expensive but then again we are really only using it as a media repository and are only a fraction of the features that are available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure, longterm storage and organization of historic media files for our organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is so easy to use!
Canto Has Set Us Up to Grow
What do you like best about the product?
Canto has an excellent set of features that help us manage our brand a little bit closer. The beautifully laid out portals are great for our other locations to be able to download without having to email us directly. The style guide brings clarity to the correct use of the brand to those who might not know. The status controls help us make sure the right assets are available without the worry of assets getting in the wrong hands. Being able to watermark photos offers an extra level of protection to photos, which is very important to us. Finally, Canto has a great team of support. They're always available to answer questions and resolve any issues quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have found a need to make certain things within a portal viewable and not downloadable, but that is not offered at this time. There are some times that things are acceptable to be viewed, but not download and I'd rather not segment our assets into multiple portals. Sometimes I feel the default home screen is somewhat cluttered since I prefer a clean interface, but it gets the job done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I sometimes wish I had even more control over assets within portals. Canto has helped us manage our most valuable asset; our time. Our corporate headquarters and other locations are now able to have a set of consistent assets to download at any time. We're now able to seamlessly update our assets with version control.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend keeping Canto in your top picks when choosing a digital asset management system. Consider the setup of your new DAM, because Canto's bulk upload tool is a great, time saving feature.
Great Visual DAM System
What do you like best about the product?
Canto is a very easy-to-use DAM system. It is highly customizable--not only in tagging but in branding--making it feel like your own. Canto has provided our team with an easy solution for storing and searching for our assets. Batch editing streamlines adding tags and keywords. Portals and collection links are great ways to share certain assets with our distributors, retailers, and licensers. We have also had great experiences with customer support; they are quick to help solve any issues and make sure that we are happy with the system.
What do you dislike about the product?
Metadata tags from Bridge or Finder are not always imported, so more often than not, assets must be tagged within Canto itself. Tags also do not always carry over after input. Assets in collection links cannot be removed after adding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canto has given my team a place to manage all of our approved assets and share them with distributors, retailers, and licensers. It also allows us to have a system to visually search through with a custom made file structure to find assets internally rather than digging through files on our main server or Dropbox.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take advantage of the onboarding period to customize the system to your company branding and get familiar with tagging and keywording assets. Do not hesitate to reach out to Canto customer support--they are extremely helpful with any questions and problems you might have.
Canto Is A Great Asset management Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the version control options on each file so you can cut down on the amount of files stores and make them easier to find. Also portals are really handy for clients
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that sometimes it is very glitchy and it also logs me off periodically and I have to sign back in
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving asset management problems and file sharing and storage
Canto Review
What do you like best about the product?
How easy it is to navigate and organize our files, and it keeps their original image quality.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit slow to load images causing hiccups at times
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making it easer to share assets both in and out of the company.
Great Organizational Tool
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of organizing photos on Canto has been crucial to our department. We have a large variety of photo assets that can make it difficult navigate. Additionally, some photos need to be accessed by certain departments, and not others. The ability to restrict files has provided a great option for our organization to ensure that everyone can utilize what they need.
What do you dislike about the product?
The userinterface of Canto leaves a lot to be desired. While I appreciate it's simplicity, it feels a bit dated and could use a refresh. Additionally, without proper training, it can be a bit difficult to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the biggest problems that we have solved is having content housed in multiple places. Canto offers the organization a centralized location for photography. Additionally, the ability to create tags for photos has saved time for users searching for content.
Cano has made things to much easier for our team
What do you like best about the product?
It has streamlined so many processes. Everyone on our team now knows exactly where everything lives and can access it themselves. Before we just had a dropbox account that everyone accessed under the same generic login. There was no accountability of oversight. Now were are able to track any changes that are made, easily collaborate, and get what we need, when we need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far we have not run into any issues or drawbacks when using Canto.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It really saves us a lot of time and money. Most of our designers are contract workers and when we can't find assets, we have to have them recreate them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ask a lot of questions. They take you through a lot in the demos but the more questions you ask, the more you start to see all the ways it can help you and your organization. Use tons of tags!
Two Thumbs up for Canto!
What do you like best about the product?
My favorite thing about Canto is it's ease of use. There are several ways to search for assets which make it very easy for users to locate assets. I come from a background of keywords and tags and appreciate the way it is laid out in Canto and as an administrator I also love the reporting aspect, specifically the metadata activity metrics. Another huge plus is the external connections you can link to upload from Dropbox and Google Drive.
Finally their implementation team and account support is top notch. They followed through with anything we asked of them and made sure we were well trained and ready to train others. We continue to have meetings with them and I learn something new every time that makes me more impressed with Canto. I highly recommend!

What do you dislike about the product?
I really don't have a whole lot to complain about. I would just recommend that before your team is ready to upload from an external connection into Canto, make sure you do some up front work in your existing file structure. It makes the upload much easier, it's hard to change the file structure once assets are uploaded into Canto but there are workarounds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canto's DAM has helped us get our assets into a central and easily accessible location. No more worrying about what happens if a hard drive is lost!
good organizational tool
What do you like best about the product?
- Ability to add multiple users with different editing levels, so some people can just download images but not edit them, etc.
- Organizing albums into folders and being able to upload the same image into multiple albums
- Organizing albums into folders and being able to upload the same image into multiple albums
What do you dislike about the product?
Some things in editing/settings can be hard to find because the interface is so clean. One example is adding custom tags, we have it set up so we have a category for adding the photographer's name. I have had to go in and add a photographer a few times and it's always tricky to remember how to get to it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization is huge, it's also great to use it as a photo collection tool. We will have events where we have our own photographers, but it's good that people from other groups can upload their images as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Canto is a great tool for anyone with multiple photographers and photo editors who need to work together to stay organized.
Intuitive Interface, Good tagging options
What do you like best about the product?
I think Canto has done a good job at implementing a balanced product. I was looking for several different ways of tagging assets. The AI tagging, descriptions, keywords, tags, + custom tags. Interface is easy to use. Some ability to customize layout to show/hide meta information.
The other feature I really liked was the ability to create portals to share photos from albums without having to create users for those outside of our team.

What do you dislike about the product?
Facial recognition has it's challenges. They use AWS. They've only had this for about 6 months though, so I'm hopeful it'll improve. I don't currently use it for now.
I wish Support would be more proactive when I provide feedback in the shortcomings of their product. Offer to submit an enhancement or something.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed to get away from the use of shared network drives and emails for storing/sharing photos. We didn't have an ability to effectively search photos or filter based on our results. We've already been able to satisfy several large requests for photos because of the search ability. What would've taken us hours before, now only took minutes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Proper tagging will be the success or failure of any DAM solution. Take the time to educate the team on proper tagging structure.
Canto didn't offer as much guidance during setup as I had hoped for. We have a lot of one-off photos from events that are difficult to create reusable tags for. We ended up finding our own process for tagging these.
