Canto meets our requirments
What do you like best about the product?
We like how people from outside our organization can submit photos. The ability to tag and rate the photos. We like the portal feature so we can give access to photos without giving access to the whole system.
What do you dislike about the product?
When tagging the photos Canto does not look out for spelling mistakes or errors. Which if not paying attention can lead to tagging issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem we are solving is gathering photos from outside our organization and inside. We realize people who take photos for us can easily submit them to us.
Canto Digital Asset Management
What do you like best about the product?
Canto has changed our workflow by allowing us to have better and faster access to our our digital assets. The platform is easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not have any areas that I dislike to date.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have solved turnaround time of needed digital assets. Canto has also allowed us to work as a team verses in silos with digital assets. Our largest problem that Canto solved is that we had 20 years of digital assets in various folders. We were able to upload a large portion of those digital assets to improve historical search.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We researched several digital asset management systems and kept going back to Canto. I highly recommend the platform for your use. The system is easy to setup. The Canto team did a wonderful job onboarding our organization. Overall, great system.
A seamless, easy-to-use tool for asset management
What do you like best about the product?
Canto's tagging feature is incredible! I so appreciate the many ways you can cross-tag and sort assets.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve with Canto; while it's not difficult to use, there is some education required.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The unique problem of knowing what photo you're looking for, but having no idea in what folder or database it might be.
Time Saver!
What do you like best about the product?
I love how we can get everything organized in one place AND crop before downloading.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing stands out as a dislike for the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem it solved was having content in one place rather than multiple places.
Canto's a Life-Saver for Designers
What do you like best about the product?
We'd be totally lost without Canto. We utilize Canto for storing all of our completed artwork, our assets, and also our training documents. It's our "go-to" for everything we do, other than our design software. Of course, Canto is something we use daily! We're currently training and re-training our teams to be able to use the CMS to be able to share everything with their clients, as well as using the file sharing feature to share files that otherwise would be too large to send via email. The portals are a real plus as well. We now have several client-facing portals where they download the completed art files for their use. We're able to share our internal files with the sales representatives to in turn share with their customers. The customer support is the best as well. I've gotten stuck late on a Friday evening when everyone else was out of the office. Canto's support was right there with me, and saved me from a huge mess!
What do you dislike about the product?
I've never shared anything I dislike about Canto, but I have to say I've found something! I'd like to share in hopes of improving this feature. Just recently, we were informed of an update in Canto's search feature due to an acquisition. The team was looking forward to an update since our designers as well as the marketing team searches a majority of the day for files on Canto. We were told it was an "amazing" update. Well, I'm quite disappointed in the update, as it seems much worse than the previous search feature. I've heard the same from several team members as well, and these are designers who are fluent with online platforms. I even submitted a help ticket to Canto one day and I was told how to use it, and how to filter things. Well, needless to say, I'm still having a lot of trouble. The search feature is slowing down my work on a daily basis.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Canto software to store our final artwork and internal files, such as brand guidelines, images, logos, etc. It's a necessity to have everyone access all of this online instead of a local server, so anyone anywhere can access the files. We're able to quickly set up client portals for our clients to access, view or download their final art files with ease. Without a CMS like Canto we'd be lost a dozen or more times due to different designers working on the same projects, or having sync issues with Sharepoint. Canto has solved most all of our problems since we stopped using internal servers. Anyone with an internet connection can access any files with ease. We're no longer tied to outdated servers with outdated equipment. We're able to simply log in online to access everything we need. Canto has solved so many issues for us and our clients instead of using an internal server!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Canto is easy-to-use, affordable software which provides everything your organization needs for digital asset management. Their customer support is the best, which is a massive plus with a large remote workforce.
Collaboration at it's best
What do you like best about the product?
Canto is used throughout multiple departments at my company. It is primarily used for graphic assets and branding. It is allowing the marketing department to streamline our text, colors and graphics between Email, Video and Print
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface is a bit confusing when you first open the program, it takes a bit to get used to the flow
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before using Canto, our videos did not match the email marketing campaigns, but now everything looks clean and together.
Great Application for Collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to add files and access remotely.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could be easier to move files around within the app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing a centralized location to store all assets.
Nice system!
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use. Very predictable when looking for controls.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wish we could connect to CRM to control permissions and would love to be able to have a lot more users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
File security.
Simple enough for new users, complex enough for experienced users
What do you like best about the product?
What's most helpful about this product is the ability to create different portals and levels of access to certain content. This is especially useful working at a higher education institution where there are multiple distinct campus partners. You are able to create, and customize the design of, distinct portals to restrict access to certain content. So within the entire system, you have multiple ways to restrict access, starting with Roles, Portals, and Workspaces.
Canto offers far more options for customizing access and sharing assets than other DAMs our team reviewed. In addition, the customer service experience has been excellent so far; Canto staff are committed to helping you optimize your experience, and have the knowledge to assist you in building the best possible system for you.

What do you dislike about the product?
I would enjoy the added feature of restricted downloads by type as well as a field to indicate usage before download. For example, if an asset is low-resolution, I would like to restrict the download usage to "social media only" so that someone who selects "print" would be blocked from the download. Right now the only way to do something similar in Canto is to utilize the "notes" feature to indicate how an asset was used/why it was downloaded. Canto will automatically tell you who downloaded an asset and when, so that's helpful information. If you have competent staff in your design and social media spaces, this won't be an issue for you. If you are sharing assets far and wide for usage in print, swag, social media for a company structured like LuLaRoe, then this lack of feature might be an issue for you.
If you are new to this, setting up the structure on your own can be difficult. We chose Canto for the ability to customize on our own, as several staff members have had experience serving as administrators for other DAMs in previous roles. There are other products out there that will offer more structure straight out the gate, if that's what you're looking for. However, I think you'll find that after putting the work into building a thoughtful system architecture on your own, you're going to have a much more fluid experience in your workspace.
As expected with some tools, upload speed in slow. Our account manager suggested using an Ethernet cable for best results.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canto makes sharing assets so simple. No more downloading, moving, Zipping, sharing, unzipping, downloading. Everything can become a simple, shareable link with the click of a button. It's a real time saver for our team. Another great benefit is the ability to use copyright and watermarks on images to protect certain assets. This is especially useful when you're taking in submissions from multiple photographers or clients, or when someone has revoked consent to appear in imagery. Other features that I love about Canto that help solve this problem are the "contributions" section for easy submissions of assets, and the facial recognition capability, for finding certain people who have expressed they don't want to appear in photographs and videos. Across the institution, the design and layout of the workspace is also quite appreciated!
Switch to Image Relay was Beneficial
What do you like best about the product?
We liked the clean, simple interface of Image Relay, primarily because our in-house clients were frustrated by the complexity of using our previous DAM. Also, the IR search function is highly accurate and returns results almost instantly (of course, proper tagging and keyword descriptions of images helps a lot). Setting up and managing the tag library was also very easy to do.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only drawback that regularly comes up is that if you want to grab a large number of images from a screen, but not every single one displayed on a page, you have to click the checkbox on each image. We hope that a future update will include the capability to click and drag to select a quantity of images on a page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our in-house customers (who are only occasional users of the DAM) have expressed their delight at how easy it is to pick up on searching, selecting and downfolding images. This was one of our goals when selecting Image Relay as our new DAM. We also wanted a system that could return search results quickly, and Image Relay does that every time.
