Canto: Great DAM Platform and reasonable price

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
A key component to our switch was the facial recogintion tech Canto has - just upload and tag one photo of an individual and it tags the person in every photo they are in. This has been invaluable considering we have photos that date back 20+ years that did not previously have any metadata associated with it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, it's a small thing but it annoys me to no end. You cannot right click in Canto. You have to Ctrl C/Ctrl V to copy and paste information. This is such a simple thing they could add.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Canto our organization is now able to both house and organize our assets but also share with other departments that were weren't able to collaborate with before. It makes it very easy for third party vendors to upload photo assets and input the correct metadata that I can then approve into the library.

Yes We Can(to)

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We use Canto to keep track of all of our projects across departments and topics. It is mostly used within the Marketing departments, and it helps us keep organized, especially if edits are made! It's great that we can update the files within a folder and the link will remain the same for those who have it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface is pretty basic and I wish it was a little more modern with clear buttons. Essentially, more user friendly. But once you learn it, it is easy to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to easily share large files during the editing process, as well as when we need to send things over to different departments or people. It is so nice to now that the link you have will be the most up to date (since you can see edit history) and that everything is all in one place for the company.

Gamechanger For Asset sharing

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to build out different portals for our different customers/markets has been a game changer for how we share assets.
What do you dislike about the product?
No complaints thus far. I have been using Canto for about a 6 months now and I am really pleased. The learning curve is a little bit steep but that is really only because of how customizable and robust a tool it is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
being able to share selections of assets to match our different customer needs, and tracking what assets they are actually using has changed the way we operate.

Great Corporate Asset Management Tool

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The file structure and tagging capabilitys. Without having to do too much thinking the file organozation make sense to any viewer. It is always visable so the user can navigate where to look depending on the content they are searching for.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search function is not as accurate as it needs to be to find all the relatable files. For some users, they are not as familar with our file organization and would prefer to search for the items they need. In doing so not all the neccesary items appear. If the filter option was more obvious in the UX I think it would help the end user to be able to locate assets they may not know exisit but are releveant to their needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to maintain an updated brand by ensuring all assets are the most recent. By reducing the amount of locations we save final files we are able to mimize missuse of outdated, inaccurate or non-authroized file types. With being such a large company it is hard to notify all the neccesary parties when an update has been made. This way no matter when an indiviual needs collateral it will always be the most recent and easy to find.

Great place to put your assets

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My organization is able to keep our assets in a safe, easy to manage, place. We store all types of files for internal and external use. Permissions for each user is easy to manage. The public portal is nice to have to provide assets to an external audience.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the Adobe Connect feature could be improved. It is nice to have. But I end up having to download the image if I need to convert to CMYK or make edits to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Marketing Department, the Library and Athletics Department now have one place to store photos easily. We can now easily search for marketing and archival scanned pictures for use in printed materials.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The on-boarding process was very easy and the ability to control user permissions and the public portals was the main selling point.

Bumpy start but smoothing out

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Ai is really great for quickly locating objects and people.
What do you dislike about the product?
AD integration costs extra, interface can be a bit clunky, syncing a large library of photos and videos can be problematic (avoid doing so from a mapped network drive)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Image sprawl and locating needed images was nearly impossible. The correct person with exact knowledge of the time, place and situation would have to be located to find specific pictures. Now with tagging, ai, and better organization the right assets are much more easily located.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Really review your assets, where they are located, how large of a library you have and how you are going to get them into Canto.

Chosen for UX, Easy search, Visual Library

  • July 22, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the overall UX—better than most, with similar sophistication and complexity of competitor products. The visual library is easy to navigate. Search function is really easy to use. Love the photo recognition and automatic tagging features. Photo recognition is really helping us document all the names of people we serve for easy searching.
What do you dislike about the product?
When you scroll in a search for too long, the page has trouble loading, and then will just reload your entire page/search. This loses your place in search, and is really unhelpful. It's like Canto doesn't have enough loading power to feature massive amounts of visuals on the screen at once. Display doesn't feel like it was coded for retina Mac screens—some things are slightly pixelated which makes the product look slightly lower quality.

The "scroll up" feature to view all the image data is odd.

The albums/folders structure is confusing, but their support team has been helpful with onboarding. I will say that the onboarding specialist we got paired with has been really unenthusiastic about her job, and we've had to press her to learn the things we need. Not very professional or polished compared to their sales team. BUT she has answered all of our questions, even if it was in a monotone voice that seemed very bored.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have thousands of photo assets from 10+ years of international work that are sitting in various Dropbox/Google Drive folders. Adopting Canto will save us lots of time once we get everything uploaded. Excited to find assets quickly for creative, marketing, and fundraising needs, and have a general location and system for uploading/tagging new assets. After initial setup, this will save our team hours of searching Dropbox.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Really explore inside the tool to see how you like using it. Negotiate for a deal on storage, users, and initial entry price. Appoint a project team to get your org set up on it—a lead and a few volunteers/helpers to import/tag all of your assets. Establish a clear organization system before you import assets. Ask the Canto team all the questions you have and don't hesitate to push them to help you.

Simple DAM that quickly solves asset management issues

  • July 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple to use and works in both a browser and a desktop app. It has previews for Adobe native files which helps a lot when looking for specific assets.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI isn't great — it's not easy to view + pull down assets quickly without "going into" them. The UX could definitely benefit from some tweaking, but no major issues blocking functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company has a global presence and allowing all of our assets to be shared easily across the company is paramount. Canto is very lightweight and works across many devices, operating systems, etc. and is a simple solution to a functionality we required.

Great collaboration workspace

  • July 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Awesome asset management tool to collaborate on with coworkers. Whether its within your team or collaborating with other teams, its the best way to keep all of the assets and comments/copy in one place. Before Canto, everything was done over email and messages/assets would be lost. With Canto, things are trackable and always in one place. The searchability function helps save so much time when lookin for specific tasks. love working in Canto!
What do you dislike about the product?
It is mostly user error, but when other coworkers comments directly to you but don't @name you, you won't get a notification of the comment
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving a communication problem within our team and it has helped by keeping everything in one place

Great tool for Document control!

  • July 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to keep track of documents and very simple to upload and keep track of new versions. It is also very easy to tag and find pictures. I also love being able to download pictures in different formats and file sizes.

I love how easy it is to share assets with those outside of the company. The link feature is great, and I also love using the sorting feature.

Having the tags section is awesome to be able to customize Canto for us to make it easy to search for items.

I also like how you can restrict access to certain types of users so that some assets are only available to the administrators.

It is very nice being able to have one asset in multiple different albums. This makes it much easier to find assets for everyone, as multiple spots are usually good options to keep an asset.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish updates to the website happened instantly. Not a huge downer, but something that would make it closer to perfect!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This helps us control our documents on the website and to ensure that other employees have the most up to date marketing materials. We have realized that Canto can be used for many things. Document control, sharing images/documents, and uploading items to our website.

We have realized that it is a great tool to share documents and pictures when the file is to large to share in an email. It is great because you can customize the access that the recipient has.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I am learning new things about Canto everyday. There are always new ways to be utilizing Canto. It is a very great tool to help you stay organized and it is extremely customizable. We have a large number of assets and a large number of products and this is our most organized and easy to use tool!

If you have questions reach out to the support team. They are looking to help you!
