ESRI ArcGIS Review.

  • June 19, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like about ArcGIS is the pragmatic approach it takes to offer its users for manipulating spatial data. It offers tools such as 3D analysts, Data Management, Buffer and clip. One of the other cool features is the ArcGIS online service. Users can import a wide-range of sundry data that can be integrated into their own geographical location.
What do you dislike about the product?
A few of the tools hinder efforts to manipulate which leads to a repetitive, mundane protocol to achieve the desired end results. There also appears to be discrepancies embedded in integrating CAD files into the system. There are times where the system shuts off when bringing a CAD into ArcGIS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are helping companies minimize impacts to Section 404 Waters and Streams. Without the use of ArGIS, we would be unable to calculate such impacts and cost our clients THOUSANDS
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This software appears to hold a monopoly in the mapping industry. I would recommend only because it is the most well-versed software in the world.

Standard for Mapping - Hard for beginners

What do you like best about the product?
ArcGIS is what is taught in most universities when people are learning how to use GIS. As such most people are familiar with the program. once you know what you are doing, presenting data because a breeze and it helps make whatever point you have even more impactful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not necessarily a dislike on ArcGIS but GIS as a whole. Unless you are actively using the service over a period of time, it becomes very easy to forget and lose all the training you've had. The program itself isn't very friendly to users who have used GIS and may have become rusty. Maybe if the program had more help options?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As stated in my "likes" section, GIS is an amazing tool to emphasize map-based data. Something like a heat map and really sink home what you are trying to say. Charts and graphs quite don't have the oomph.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's probably your best bet considering most colleges teach this.

What do you like best about the product?
It's standard platform and versatility among programs and uses.
What do you dislike about the product?
Complex nature of base platform and lack of milti-knowledge packages
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Geospatial analytics and land use planning
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Invest in training and the right staff

    Paper & Forest Products

Best fully supported mapping software

  • April 30, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to work across many different problems and data types in a single platform. The more powerful tools like the model builder, integration with python, and tabular data export are its strongest features
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional errors with the tools and commands. It sometimes takes several attempts to run a tool, with no obvious reason for error
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mapping, data management, forest planning and decision making
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The best tool for mapping and data management, no question. Also, ESRI has other products and options for cloud based storage for your data, which are not offered by other GIS groups

Mapping Magic

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to map different layers of data points, and that you can adjust colour and shape of points to make it easy to distinguish. The base layer maps are also really helpful and add a lot of meaningful information to the maps I build.
What do you dislike about the product?
Over the platform requires a degree of skill and problem solving to figure out how to work it, but it is a very diverse mapping tool so that is understandable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I map a lot of GPS points to track project locations and determine distances between sites. It is a really quick way to visualize hundreds of sites and it is easy to upload mass files of site information which saves a lot of time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend Esri ArcGIS from both simple location mapping tasks as well as more complex data mapping projects. It is a very diverse tool that I have not seen anywhere else.

    Civil Engineering

The best GIS/geospatial tool

  • February 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
ArcGIS allows to to do almost anything spatially. You can build maps, edit maps, analyze raster data, make 3D terrain models, create geodatabases, create georeferencing and so many other things. The ArcCatalog lets you connect to GIS servers in the cloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its endless features make it extremely hard for an inexperienced user to find exactly what they want to do. The ArcGIS Pro is incredibly expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is an incredibl ypoerful GIS program that can be used by engineers, statisticians and scientists. In fact, it can be used in almost any industry.

ArcGIS needs some changes

  • February 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It produces nice maps. Now it can connect to ArcGIS online.
What do you dislike about the product?
The technical barrier is high to use it. Also, the interface of the ArcGIS map is pretty outdated. Sometimes, it takes a long time to solve a simple issue. The FAQ section needs to be easier to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mapping data. We're using ArcGIS for the majority of our mapping projects. Those include static maps for reports, our website, and also for our users.

What do you like best about the product?
Nearly infinite capabilities and applications, fully featured, intuitive design, great support community
What do you dislike about the product?
Big learning curve, expensive, knowledge of scripting required to fully realize all capabilities
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Spatial analysis and cartography/site maps. Ability to automate some mapping tasks results in increased efficiency and accuracy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Free GIS options are available, but ArcGIS is the most fully featured and with a very large support community.

    Architecture & Planning

Great software

What do you like best about the product?
ESRI products have great capabilities for solving complex geographical problems. It is a great tool for learning how land, people, and economies function in space.
What do you dislike about the product?
ArcGIS can be very frustrating at times. The program will randomly crash, or tools will only work half the time. There are definitely ways that the program can be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company uses ArcGIS to learn about geographies. We take the information learned to develop insights and provide recommendations to governments and other organizations about how they can create efficiencies.
