Overall Review for ESRI
What do you like best about the product?
ESRI is a forward thinking company, always thinking of what they can do in the future to stay ahead with technology in various industries.
What do you dislike about the product?
A large company that when a problem is found with their software or App, it takes quite a while to fix the bug.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Field border acres, verification of cover crop with Collector, satellite imagery classification for summer field samples, yield estimation, etc.
Very easy to use for uploading data and mapping it.
What do you like best about the product?
mapping data then looking for hotspots to create heatmaps for presentation
What do you dislike about the product?
Lots of tools preloaded that are not used.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving problems by allocating resources to specific problem areas. This has shown to decrease crime in the targeted areas.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The only tool to use for mapping and statistical professionals.
Analyzing issue and finding solutions

What do you dislike about the product?
Data errors such as addresses manually entered into spreadsheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rebuilding the downtown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa after flood of 2008.
Product with potential to do great things but needs more basic guidance.
What do you like best about the product?
THe ability to conduct a wide variety of geospatial analysis and much more.
What do you dislike about the product?
The program can be difficult to learn at first considering the number of tools and wide variety of analysis that one can do .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With ArcGIS , we are able to connect quantitative data with qualitative data (maps). In many cases, one can have data but unless presented in a presentable way, it is useless.
Standard in Mapping Software
What do you like best about the product?
I have been working with ESRI products for well over 10 years now, and its been amazing to see how quickly the technology has been evolving and streamlining. It always seems to be one step ahead in anticipating the needs and requirements of its customers, clients and the public at large. The accessibility to online training is also a tremendous asset.
What do you dislike about the product?
Along the same lines as why I like ESRI products - the speed at which the software is developing and changing year to year creates some challenges in trying to understand new functionality
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in a contingency and emergency operations center for the US Army Corps of Engineers, and we have been developing numerous emergency dashboards and story maps to relay information relating to wildfires, hurricanes, etc. We have devleoped viewers for our power missions, blue roof missions and debris missions using AGOL, and using them to brief our senior leaders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take as much training as you can, there is so much to learn about this product
ArcGIS can't be beat
What do you like best about the product?
It is the powerhouse of all things mapping. I love the way the entire ESRI suite let's me interact with data and produce maps to change the world. I love SDE databases and how easy they make it to share data across different agencies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the geoprocessing tools are inefficient and poorly designed. The error messages are not helpful. Please get rid of the 999999 error and figure out a way to tell users why certain geoprocessing operations fail. I have worked with Java, JavaScript (several frameworks), Rails, lots of python outside of ESRI, and ESRI's error messages are seriously lacking in quality. Please get rid of the 999999 error and provide an actual reason why it failed. It's just not acceptable. Also, half of the time when a geoprocessing tool that fails, arcmap quits. Please build better error handling into the arcgis pro tools. (I understand arcmap isn't going to be changing much...)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Utilities management
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Realize the limitations.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
force protection and dod mission use cases
ArcGIS for Utilites
What do you like best about the product?
We use ArcGIS for asset management of our transmission and distribution system. Without it we couldn't manage our workplan for maintenance. We use it for planning, storm restoration and just about anything esle you can think of. ArcGIS tools are easily accessible to new users who are unfamiliar with GIS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I hate the red tape with trying to deploy things to masses. Our users are not tech savy and have problems with setting up apps on their phone which makes it difficult to deploy apps. I also get tired of having to use a third party vendor to make the ESRI core product useable..
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is instrumental in planning, trouble calls, and storm restoration. We also use it to plan overhead groundwire replacement projects based on age, issues associated with aging infastructure, and environmental factors.
Never fear a geographer is here
What do you like best about the product?
Arc Toolbox that cuts down on the amount of Python to write
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be hard to mimimize the amount of non-needed buttons and tools for occasional users
