There is always something new to learn about the Camunda
What do you like best about the product?
As a developer for a number Java projects, I found the integration of Camunda into our project to be very helpful. We develop and support six major projects for processing some business requests through the chain or reviews and approvals, with tracing the status of the request and sending notifications. Beside the support for these actions, Camunda allows us to analize our processes and detect some potential bottlenecks, so we can address it. The main features we use are Camunda engine, Camunda Cockpit and Camunda Optimize (heatmap).
I'd like to mention great customer support. In the past, we received many detailed responsed to resolve some implementation cases. And the work-shop provided by Camunda was most helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am not sure if it can be called as a downside, but recently we realized that we have to switch t embedded version of Camunda engine and it requires signifficant refactorign in affected projects, plus resolving some specific challenges during this 'migration'.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Camunda helps us to implement a number of request approval processes, requiring the status tracking and aonditionally triggered notifications.
Developer friendly business process development
What do you like best about the product?
Camunda is built with an API first mindset, a platform for developers. The product is not very opinionated , hence its flexibility to fit into typical software development models
What do you dislike about the product?
discontinued CMN investment. Incomplete security model for process variables and tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows business logic to move from core application domain to the business proces layer.
Allows us to build a single product with different business processes for different customers
Light weight flexible BPMN product that i ever worked with in my experience.
What do you like best about the product?
Easy installation and deployment via swagger portal adapts cloud native process model.
Broker worker model
What do you dislike about the product?
Scripting portion should be enhanced with respect to js devloper expectation , right now js scripts are written in dedicated IDE and put it together in one line like a variable field.
if that could be enlarged like a code editor that will be more realistic feature.
Manual Task forms is easily configurable with other systems like servicenow , it should be considered to provide more flexibility in future.
Restarting the instance continuing from mid of the flow is not easily approachable expect setting variable values.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we are using camunda to orchestrate our IT infrastructure automation among different Business groups, saving huge costing by replacing existing system.
truly exhilarating
What do you like best about the product?
Love the whole orchestration of processes from start to finish. Only just started using this product but completely bowled over by the sheer capacity of what it has to offer. Kicks visio's butt as a tool for process mapping and only just scratching the surface of what it has to offer to be honest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Havent encountered anything unfriendly about it so far
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping to map out the processes for return of equipment within our organisation with the aim to use some form of RPA to streamline and automate the whole process. Also will be using to map out our Council Tax Debt Collection processes with the same aim to start automating workflows.
Using Camunda for back office, enterprise approval workflow processes
What do you like best about the product?
BPMN helps visualize and communicate workflows to multiple types of stakeholders. Using Camunda helps enforce design modularity and helps version control work fow proesses.
What do you dislike about the product?
One complexity introduced by Camunda relates to upgrading Java versions. Objects serialized in an earlier version of Java caused deserialization issues after upgrading to later Java versions. Can use JSON for serialization going forward however handling objects serialized with earlier Java versions - is a challenge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Camunda helps externalize and visualize complex workflows for both developers and customers/users. Users can easily see why workflow logic and steps are implemented. It's nice that the stakeholders and developers can convey the process logic using the same artifacts.
Rules Engine Simplification
What do you like best about the product?
I have been working on developing rules in camunda DMN mode for than a year now, andI love how simple it has made my life by putting rules in simple plain english. I developed a product that can have over 42K combinations based on member input, that could have taken me months to code but with camunda it was done within a day or two.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see a live web version/tool where I can edit dmn and it can predict the output, also a better version of documentation would be really helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I developed a microproduct which is used by two big beast companies in healthcare, and based on user input it gives out some results the combination of users input were more than 42K and i simply put them to rules and bamm work is done.
Open and efficient BPMS platform
What do you like best about the product?
Camunda Platform is quite friendly for developers to put in place and is well rekown in the industry for his capabilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Camunda Platform does not have french translation for his web apps out of the box.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Camunda Platform is used to orchestred human centric and system centric busines processes.
Good and Bad things about Camunda
What do you like best about the product?
It has good all in one features. Easy to set up and do configurations and creating flows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still need a lot of work like debugging issues. While doing coding it is not easy to debug which takes a lot of development time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using camunda for creating flows which helps to see where the flow is or order is during runtime.
Awesome to use, long time to ramp up on
What do you like best about the product?
Camunda's cockpit and history instances make it super easy to operationalize a service.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a lot of history and legacy in the different APIs, so it takes a fair amount of time to ramp on the nuances of the different APIs.
A lot of undocumented use cases require going through the github and understanding the internals to get something to work as expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Camunda is used as an orchestrator to go through a business process that requires synchronizing many different systems.
The java delegate interface makes it easy for us to add orchestration to our services.
Fully API-based, enabling easy integration and customization but lacks sufficient built-in dashboards and reports for operations and monitoring
What is our primary use case?
We use the Camunda platform for workflow management.
What is most valuable?
The architecture is good because it's a headless workflow. I can create my own frontend, and it's fully API-based. Our approach is more flexible, so I can use the Camunda API to generate my own workflow blueprint.
Additionally, it's cloud-ready as we have deployed it on the Kubernetes container platform, which aligns with our cloud-first architecture. These are the aspects we like about Camunda from the IT side.
What needs improvement?
Camunda lacks sufficient dashboards for operations and reporting. Although I can create dashboards and reports using the provided framework, it's not as enterprise-ready as some of the competitors in the market. They offer ready-made dashboards that are easier to create compared to Camunda. That's an area where Camunda can improve.
So, in future releases, I would like to see better dashboards.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Camunda Platform for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate it around seven out of ten. We haven't encountered significant issues or unavailability of services.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In my organization, at least 100 users are using this solution. I would rate it an eight out of ten in terms of scalability.
What about the implementation team?
It requires maintenance such as patching and other regular tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would definitely recommend it.
Overall, I would rate the solution a six out of ten because Camunda does not provide a prebuilt interface. I have to develop it myself. To provide a comprehensive product to my business users, I need a frontend. The frontend provided by Camunda vendors is very basic. Most of the vendor's customers develop their own UI or frontend using technologies like React, React Native, or JavaScript frameworks.
So I rate Camunda Platform a six out of ten due to the incomplete delivery of a frontend. Without a proper frontend, the business cannot effectively use the platform. This is an area where I'm still exploring how well the competition performs. That's why I'm giving a slightly lower rating. However, in terms of orchestration, API capabilities, and cloud compatibility, Camunda is very good.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have used IBM BPM and Newgen in the past. We are still using IBM BPM alongside Camunda.
