Efficient management of end user accounts and ability to make changes, run scripts, install software, and fetch reports

  • July 13, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

ADManager Plus offloads all the main tasks of Active Directory, or you can say it automates all the day-to-day tasks. It allows our admins to efficiently manage end-user accounts. It's like user account management outside the real servers but in an automated way. So we don't have to log in to the domain controllers and make changes directly on the server. This application allows admins to make changes, run scripts, install software, fetch reports, and perform many other daily operations. This simplifies the job significantly.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for me is automation. It's the main feature that stands out the most. It automates seven to eight individual processes that we used to do manually before. Now, it can be done in a single shot as an automated script.

What needs improvement?

With the number of available integrations these days, it would be beneficial to have more ready-to-integrate technologies in other products as well.

In future releases, I would like to have more technologies and products that can integrate with ADManager Plus.

Currently, there are only around eight to ten available as plugins for single-click integration. However, there are many missing integrations. They might be in the pipeline, but they are not visible in the latest updates. Maybe they will add more in the future.

For additional features, I would like to see more efficient reporting. Currently, the focus is more on executing real activities rather than reporting. For reports, we have to go back to ADAudit, which is not ideal. It would be better if they could merge reporting into a single tool, making it more comprehensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ADManager Plus for three years. We use the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. It's pretty straightforward.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability as seven out of ten. So there is room for improvement. It would be beneficial if ManageEngine could come up with more products other than Microsoft.

So, in fact, the scalability is limited when it comes to integrating with anything apart from Microsoft.

This solution covers all our users, which is around 1500. We use this solution 24/7 and to its maximum potential.

How are customer service and support?

We are satisfied with the support team.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy. I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten. It took two days to deploy the solution.

What about the implementation team?

Only one person was enough for deployment. The job role of this person is a system admin.

The deployment is a simple software installation for deployment. By mentioning the domain name of the domain controller, it fetches all the required data. It's a small integration and loads up quickly with all the necessary data.

The solution requires maintenance. The support guy handles the maintenance.

What was our ROI?

The ROI was around 90%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not expensive. I would rate the pricing model as a four out of ten, where one is low price and ten is high price. The price is fixed, like a basic price. There are no additional costs.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend the solution. Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten. It's pretty good to have this tool to simplify our IT operational tasks and reduce the workload for our service desk agents. It has automated many individual activities that we used to get stuck with.

Provides real-time visibility and user-friendly

  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

For our SOC two compliance, I use it quite frequently to run audit reports and cross-reference them with Active Directory. I also look for anomalies, especially in the cybersecurity portion of it. I use it for troubleshooting, running reports, making changes, and using it to verify any anomalies. The analytics piece is proving to be quite helpful.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the dashboard. They allow me to see everything in real-time and drill down and pick and choose versus running scripts. You can get the same information with scripts, but you're having to run them in the background. Today, I just don't have the time to look up what those scripts are and how to run them or reach out to someone very proficient in running scripts. I like what the interface does.

What needs improvement?

Some things are not very intuitive. Sometimes, I have to open up a call with ManageEngine and ask, "Why is this failing? Where do I have to click? Where do I have to go?" It's almost like you need to take a course on how to manoeuvre within it, and you don't always know what's connected to what is on the back end. For example, if I go in and change something and receive an error report, I don't know exactly what changed or what broke. Also, some of the reports are good, but sometimes I need more customized reports, and I'm not quite sure how to customize them because I don't fully understand what's going on in the back end and how these things connect. So, probably on the reporting or customization side, if there were a little more intuitiveness, that would be good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for a couple of years.

How are customer service and support?

Typically, I've received very good support from them. But Sometimes it depends on who I get. They've also walked through some of the changes. And sometimes I've gotten, "You'll probably have to go and research this. Not quite sure. Let me get back to you," Then it'll be a couple of days before they circle back.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It has a competitive pricing model.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise you to scale your license appropriately depending on how many technicians you want. We purchased one, thinking that one would be enough, and it's really not, and we need to expand it.

And sometimes, patching probably needs to be more familiar with patching. I'd say you make sure when you install the product; you pay close attention to the patching portion of it because it could easily break.

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Manage AD and some compliance

  • May 18, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The automations are awesome. Gives me the ability to set scheduled tasks to complete based on a report. This really helps with compliance and audit plus helps to keep our environment more secure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Updating ADManager is not a simple process. While the initial install is very easy (MSI file), all updates require you to run a batch file and select a PPM file.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had user accounts that would go unused for some time. We've been able to set rules to automatically disable those accounts. We also do the same for computers and servers. We've been able to provide reports and audit trails. These tasks cna be done by junior admins that may not have a level of scripting needed. However, the tool is powerful so even the most seasoned engineer will find it useful

ADManager Plus makes DC Admin AD work much easier

  • December 08, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to set up predefined actions the product should take, like when deleting a user or creating one - creating a user is now just filling out a form the correct settings are applied. ManageEngine ADManager Plus has made managing and administrating Active Directory easy, fast, and efficient. ADManager Plus is being used to audit our Active Directory and helps to manage it. This is a great tool to keep users from logging into domain controllers but still allows them to make AD changes. It also provides good scheduled reports to assist with auditing your AD environment. It simplifies the management and reporting of file server (NTFS and share) permissions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Product is web-based, but sometimes it takes much time to open. Software support is lacking. Very costly, that's why small organizations do not purchase this product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Very easy to generate reports and collect information. Help to Fastly create new single or multiple users user accounts at a time. ADManager Plus is used across various teams in IT. On a daily basis its help me to export the below Report-
.Users in more than one Group
.Recently Deleted users
.Recently Created Users
.Recently Modified Users
