A cloud operating system for web developments

  • April 02, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

SUSE is an operating system that can be used for web application development and regular housekeeping work on application development.

What needs improvement?

The solution could be more stable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SUSE Linux Enterprise for 12 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is based on the models which you're selecting because sometimes you go with the standard support or with premium support. It is all dependent upon what support you are opting for.

There are a lot of operating systems in the network. We have SUSE provided by cloud, and some are traditional ones like Linux. Everything has different features. It's all stable in their own environment and for what they're using for production, development, or UAT.

I rate the solution’s stability a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

All operating systems are giving good scalable options.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple and takes five minutes for deployment and if you have automation in place, it will take four minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution’s subscription is dependent on the organisation like how they have a contract with the company.

What other advice do I have?

It all depends upon the subscription and cost. If the subscription is less, maybe we can choose which operating system to go. Subscription and support provided by the vendor are the two major factors which we look at. Technology is ok, we can get adjusted to it, but the subscription and support are two major factors that you are looking at.

I would advise to go check all the offers, security patches and how often the vendors are releasing the security patches. These are more important before you decide which one to go.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Sometimes deployments of new setup takes much time than expected also while creating or editing the configrations it refresh the site which help to the preview stage also you can face some bugs which might be fixed in upcoming version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
While working on rancher me and my teammates overcome with some bugs as it manages multiply kubernetes cluster and provide such great functionality so we expect some issues of slowness while deployment but rancher is solving some bugs while working on it.

What do you like best about the product?
rancher makes it very simple to set up and handle kubernetes clusters in bare metal and public clouds, among other places. it's really adaptable!
What do you dislike about the product?
there are a lot of options in rancher, but you might need some help with the more advanced ones. however, it's easy to do once you get the hang of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
rancher makes it easy to deal with the problems that come up with containerised tasks. for handling clusters, having centralised authentication, access control, and observability is like having a toolbox full of extra tools.

What do you like best about the product?
it's easy to set up kubernetes in different settings with rancher. consistency and dependability are ensured by centralizing authentication and access control.
What do you dislike about the product?
for newbies, setting up the system might be a little hard at first because it takes some time to learn and use all of its features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it can be hard to manage multiple kubernetes groups that are spread out across different infrastructures. by putting in place global rules, my goal is to make deployment faster and safer.

A unified platform

  • March 25, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Rancher is the best ever platform which helps to manage the teams their Kubernetes. The most important thing I like in Rancher is centralized authentication and do the deployments on the clouds independently. Also it allows to optimize the reliable infrastructure that has helped a lot to our team.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is some steep curve here in Rancher which doesn't support much to nre comers. Also Rancher is best wherever I found to be perfect. Only support that it needs is to elevate use of ease for new joiners.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The best out of its services I have found the chanlleneges on security as well as operational level that solves much out of our team. The Kubernets clusters also it manages very well. And it helped a lot the devops team to overcome and implement containers.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of viewing deployments, making changes and monitoring how my cluster is doing.
A really cool point to mention is that Rancher is an opensource platform and its source code can be accessed on GitHub, you can use the code as a study source, understand in depth how the platform works, contribute to the project, report problems and kindly request new features.
What do you dislike about the product?
In some cases, such as autoscaling, we still find some limitations forcing the user to do it with CLI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Share our Kubernets infrastructure with the team in a simple way based on access levels by role.
