A Kubernetes based platform for service orchestration

What do you like best about the product?
Visual interface is very clear and allows to easily keep track of all running services and pods, as well as jobs or pods that have failed.
Quick commands allow to start, stop or restart services, while planning cronjob is also available.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some setting pages are a bit confusing and some options could be grouped for clarity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rancher allows to control our containerized cloud architecture all in one place.

Fastest way to have Kubernetes Cluster

What do you like best about the product?
The self managed kubernetes cluster that gets ready in minutes.
I can not only set my deployments but can pull or build my custom images to be used in deployments.
It gives access to all the master files allowing you to explore the cluster to its best .
What do you dislike about the product?
The starting setup is a bit unclear but once your setup is ready it's all easy flowing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's easy to setup and test your entire cluster before dealing it at production level.

Rancher helped a lot

What do you like best about the product?
Rancher desktop actually helped our organisation to move from docker desktop to containerd based solution. They give better UI and faster in provisioning pods.
What do you dislike about the product?
Kubernetes solution inside rancher is still k3s and need k8s based solution
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have multiple local development environments and primarily focused on kubernetes based cloud deployment. Rancher has solved to have local development environments to all developers and move faster to kubernets

HOw ranhcer simplifies management of Kubernetes Clusters

What do you like best about the product?
Being as Rancher is compatible with most CNCF-certified Kubernetes clusters, you can manage most cluster deployments in a heartbeat. Deploying a cluster is as simple as defining the roles and runinng a command at the terminal...That easy. From there, you have insight into your managed clusters.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve might be somewhat steep at the start when working wth Rancher Manager for some.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting insight on the Cluster utilization, pod status, etc...the list goes on.

Has a valuable management system and good technical support services

What is our primary use case?

We use the product in a desktop environment for testing purposes.

What is most valuable?

SUSE Linux Enterprise has a good management system for DevOps operations and integration with Red Hat.

What needs improvement?

The platform doesn't support certain APMs. In terms of configuration, it is very good for beginners. However, it could be more compliant. The command line tools need to enhance regarding compatibility similar to Red Hat with different languages like C++, Python, etc. Additionally, it is an expensive product. They could provide a free development license before working in the production environment.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using SUSE Linux Enterprise since 2023.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

According to my colleagues working on product maintenance, it has good stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We work with small and medium businesses. However, sometimes, I also work with enterprises. We need to consider that support availability, documentation quality, and interface optimization can vary based on geographical locations for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services are good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process is easy with assistance from a consultant or support team. It is very simple to install and requires a maximum of two executives to work on the implementation. We can use a web interface in a development portal to repair the console and manage registered servers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is expensive. We purchase its yearly license.

What other advice do I have?

Before buying the product, I advise others to learn about the organization's requirements regarding use cases. They can opt for SUSE Linux Enterprise if they have an essential budget. If not, they can look for Linux distributions like Red Hat, Arch, Fedora, etc.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

An affordable and scalable solution that is secure and can be used for deployment and automation

What is our primary use case?

I am using the solution for my customers. It is used for deployment and automation.

What is most valuable?

We can use Ansible for automation. Ansible enables us to have playbooks that can deploy the configurations as defined. The tool’s idempotency ensures all configurations are in place at all times. Security is the main concern in an organization. The product takes care of security. Too. The solution is available as an open-source product.

What needs improvement?

The product must improve its UI. It will lead to more people accepting the product, like Windows. The tool should provide more UI interactions. It must also provide a version of the solution for educational institutes that provide engineering degrees. It will give the students a hands-on experience, evaluate the product, and promote it in the future.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable, but we don't use the latest versions. In our experience, the latest versions have some hot patches or fixes. We always use the version released before the latest version.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is suitable for small and large companies. It is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good. I have seen L0, L1, L2, and L3 issues solved by pretty good SMEs. The support is costly, though. Depending on the license we have, we must pay per interaction or per issue that we log. I rate the support a seven and a half out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with other operating systems. When I worked on Oracle, Oracle Linux was the only OS we could use. If there's a requirement to use Ansible Tower that is highly compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, then we use Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The solution we use depends on the customers’ requirements.

I have worked with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora, and Oracle Linux. People who are not inclined toward CLI will be more receptive and more open to UI-based offerings like Windows. People who are not administrators or developers want better UI and user exchange for an easier experience.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The time taken for deployment depends on the configuration and whether it is being deployed on a virtual machine or physical hardware. Whether we need a custom set of packages or a bare metal hypervisor depends on the customer’s requirements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is reasonable. The product must provide a pay-as-you-go model of licensing.

What other advice do I have?

I suggest people use SUSE for a short span of time and do a competitive analysis against other tools. Depending on the performance criteria like scalability and security, they can choose SUSE. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Stable product compatible with multiple cloud service providers

What is our primary use case?

We use the product as an operating system for SAP database.

What is most valuable?

The operating system is efficient in terms of security. There are many SAP Linux policies included in it.

What needs improvement?

There could be AI-based features in the product. They should provide chatbot support for customers to open the troubleshooting cases directly.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using SUSE Linux Enterprise for one and a half years as a third-party support provider. At present, we use the version 12.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The platform is highly stable. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We manage 3000 SUSE Linux Enterprise customers. It is simple to scale. I rate the scalability an eight or nine.

How are customer service and support?

We do not contact the technical support team. We refer to the documentation released by the vendor. They could provide straightforward and point-to-point documentation. We have to go through many pages to understand and figure out the process. It takes a lot of time.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy and can be deployed on the cloud. It takes half an hour to complete the process.

The deployment process includes creating an instance and cloning it via the application with the help of an operating system image. Further, we install and deploy multiple applications on the cloned system.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The platform is affordable. I rate the pricing a six out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

SUSE Linux Enterprise is compatible with multiple clouds, including Oracle Cloud, VMware, and AWS. If you are looking for an open-source operating system, consider SUSE Linux. They charge for support services. It is a stable and secure system for large-scale companies. It is suitable for small and medium companies as well.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

SUSE Rancher is a great product for professional entry into the Kubernetes environment

What do you like best about the product?
The product has an easy installation for laboratory projects, which helped us a lot to speed up the proof of concept process and gave us the necessary experience to face the first delivery of a production environment. There is also support from the manufacturer in Portuguese-BR, which is a big step forward for me. The product is frequently used by the operations team and the GUI environment is more than sufficient to perform routine tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some points to improve in the product, such as some facilities for configuring the final production environment. All the documentation says that specialized support from SUSE technicians is necessary to deliver the production environment, but all other products are like this too. The lack of native integration with a CI tool was also noted, but was overcome by CI scripts that integrate with the product's CD feature, but due to no integration with CI, in certain projects up to the CD we are executing by script outside the tool resource.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before using Rancher, we were in a test environment that grew into a productive environment with Docker Swarm. Although the tool worked well, it started to increase the complexity in product administration and, therefore, we started managing microservices projects with Rancher. With this, administration, operation and even other functionalities such as CI/CD were implemented and delivered in a more professional, more performant and more resilient environment.

On-Premise Kubernetes Cluster Management

What do you like best about the product?
We need to run our Kubernetes-Clusters in an Air-Gapped environment and need the opportunity to manage all these clusters and also append new ones in short time. Originally we came from SUSE CaaSP and were "forced" into Rancher. In retrospect, this was a good decision, Rancher comes with everything we need and - if we exclude the last releases (e.g. 2.7.5) - it's pretty stable too. With the fleet integration, we can pretty much deploy a new cluster with all managed services we provide we just a few clicks.
What do you dislike about the product?
* Releases could be a bit more stable
* Multi-tenancy in Fleet still missing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As said before, we need to run our cluster in an Air-Gapped environment, so "the cloud" is not a thing.
You can run Rancher completly Air-Gapped and still manage and deploy new clusters with just a few clicks. With the Fleet integration we make sure all downstream clusters come with our Managed-Services.

An efficient operating system with good stability

What is our primary use case?

SUSE Linux Enterprise is an operating system for server workstations, desktop computers, and other platforms.

What needs improvement?

They should improve their educational portal. There should be a dedicated lab to learn about features similar to Red Hat's portal.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using SUSE Linux Enterprise for seven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable platform.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product's scalability is better than DevSecOps. We have enterprise and medium customers using it.

How are customer service and support?

There are limitations in terms of getting administrative rights or comprehensive data support.

How was the initial setup?

The installation and registration process was complicated because of security settings. We didn't receive support services to tackle the difficulties. It requires four to five executives for maintenance.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SUSE Linux Enterprise an eight out of ten.
