Best in class for SEC reporting
What do you like best about the product?
WDesk flourishes in providing a cloud-based, highly programmable SEC Reporting, Financial Reporting process. Our team also uses it for SOX and Internal Controls. Workiva is far ahead of the competition when it comes to what the software offers, if you want all of the connectivity, tools, and automation for strong financial reporting (SEC or otherwise). WDesk continues to innovate with its WData, where it creates strong APIs for reporting to take out even more of the manual entry of data for reporting and presentations. Strongly recommended for a long-term, sustainable reporting platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wdesk isn't perfect, though its developers continue to improve upon the product. There is some nuance in learning and optimizing the product for your specific needs. In addition, the product is expensive, and there are cheaper options if you have a simpler need for SEC reporting or financial reporting. However, if you are trying to build a technology stack in finance that has the best platform for sustainable reporting into the future, Workiva is excellent.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Less error in our financial reporting, easier turn-around in internal and external reviews, and building in processes to take out manual processes in reporting. All in all, the best financial reporting module I have used to automate, streamline, and simplify financial reporting (once you have taken the time/resources to build out your financials).
Workiva Makes My Work Easier
What do you like best about the product?
The way the folders are set up since the migration to NextGen is far more intuitive and logical than the Classic platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the xbrl tagging were easier and more efficient.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Section 16 module is amazing, in that I am able to reconcile the number of holdings for our Section 16 officers, as opposed to inputting the amounts with each filing, due to the running tally feature. This is far more efficient than other platforms I have used.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is nearly a complete SEC filing solution, user-friendly, logical and efficient.
Workiva has allowed my team to leverage connected, reliable, and actionable content.
What do you like best about the product?
Workiva has allowed to make a lot of our complex work simple. "Collaboration" can be very subjective to how it is defined. Workiva has offered us a fully controlled, connected, consistent, truly collaborative environment that has helped my team not only save time but provide a much better product to our customers.
What do you dislike about the product?
I believe the only downside of using Workiva is the resistance to change your bound to face.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workiva is helping our business move closer to a more dynamic delivery of our regulatory reporting requirements.
SEC Reporting
What do you like best about the product?
I love the linking capabilities which allow us to use a single source for our filing documents. I also really love the new "mark-up" feature for attachments and can't wait for it to be rolled out to spreadsheets.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't come across anything that I dislike at this point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automation; by importing our main financial statements I can be sure there are no typos and that the most current information is in Wdesk.
One stop Shop
What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it made collaboration a breeze!
What do you dislike about the product?
Need to pay extra to get the tools that interface with other systems within my company (wdata)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We reduced our turnaround time for SEC reporting by almost 90%. We use Wdesk sync to push through data to our main documents (10-K & 10-Q). Everyones ability to be in the document at the same time was a winner.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't think twice if you have a large enough team and too many unnecessary manual processes.
Workiva SOX Platform Review
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to create ad-hoc reporting
What do you dislike about the product?
The SOX FY20 test form that was designed could use some rework.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are working to redesign the FY21 test form to better streamline it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Workiva has great customer service and has a group of very resourceful individuals. Workiva help streamline our SOX audit repository and we are able to create ad-hoc reporting for status, etc.
Workiva makes it easy to process data and review in a remote environment!
What do you like best about the product?
Linking of spreadsheets to our document and the review functionality makes it easy in a remote environment for our disclosure committee.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the XBRL tagging especially new footnotes that have to be tagged

Workiva Streamlines and Improves Processes
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's cloud-based and constantly tracking any updates that are being made.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike some of the support offerings. Not all support staff are well versed in more complex parts of the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We complete our SEC reporting and all financial reporting deliverables in Wdesk, which saves us time completing the documents and time reviewing the documents.

Consider locking into a long term contract to help avoid/offset annual price increases
Workiva Wdesk SOX workspace
What do you like best about the product?
Workiva Wdesk has allowed us in Internal Audit to maximize efficiency and standardize our reporting and testing procedures across our global company. We have also been able to train plant employees how to utilize the tool and conduct our Control Self-Evaluation (CSE) process in Wdesk as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside of Workiva, and really the only one, that we have experienced has been the connectivity issues in China. Our Chinese counterparts are unable to use the tool in an efficient way. Because of this, the admins in North America must load data manually for them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to easily track and report on issues found in our Internal Control environment and pass along this information in a smooth manner to upper-level management (CFO, CAO, CEO). This has streamlined our ability to enhance the internal control environment throughout the company. We have begun to create our reports in Wdesk as well and have centralized almost all of our day-to-day activities in the tool.
