Best-in-class SEC reporting tool, with some frustrations
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is easy to use and the linking capability saves our team a lot of time and headache since we know that the numbers are linked across a variety of documents, spreadsheets, charts and presentations. It allows for easy collaboration with the commenting feature, and we always have a full audit trail since we can set permissions easily, track changes/versions and see who has edited down to a cell level. I like the automation features to send review notices or lock sections when we've marked them in a certain status as well as the mark up feature that makes tie-outs much more efficient. The XBRL review is also super clean and easy to do within the platform. I appreciate that they are continuously trying to improve the platform and introduce new or improved features based on user feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
New features are not always communicated well or aren't available for all users, often requiring you to be on a more expense solution to gain access. You do have a dedicated Customer Success Manager but it seems they often prefer to point you to help articles or videos vs. actually fixing the issues you're having themselves. In general, I've found you need to be pretty self sufficient to use the software. Additionally, while they've made their platform look and feel like Microsoft Office, which makes using it easier, it doesn't have ALL of the capabilities of those (e.g. not all chart formats are supported; export to Microsoft Word often gets messed up) which can be frustrating at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workiva has helped created a single source of truth across all of our external reporting processes, which cuts down on prep and review time, allowing us to focus on more value-added tasks. It allows for easy and timely collaboration, especially helpful when working on a completely remote team working across different locations and time zones. It's a secure, audible platform that gives us peace of mind that our data is safe and we can track all changes.
Flexible and User-Friendly
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate how easy it is to use and how flexible it is when switching between various tasks or adapting to different reporting needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
There has been some intermittent downtime which can bring productivity to a halt. This is typical for any web-based platform though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Enables us to timely file quarterly reporting requirements as well as annual proxy statement.
Effortless Document Linking, But Feature Updates Are Slow
What do you like best about the product?
Easily link disclosure, amounts, tables, etc. across multiple documents with a single source to eliminate redundancies and reduce the risk of inconsistency across documents.
What do you dislike about the product?
Slow development and roll out of new features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Streamlining processes to create efficiency
Robust SEC Reporting Tools and Excellent Support
What do you like best about the product?
Their SEC reporting and filing tools are both robust and intuitive, making them straightforward to use. I also find their customer support to be very good.
What do you dislike about the product?
It requires a bit of time to get used to, and I’ve noticed that loading can be slow at times. Additionally, some features seem limited when performing certain tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The platform enables us to handle all of our SEC reporting and financial disclosures, and it will soon support our proxy filings and related disclosures as well.
Easy Workflow and Info Gathering, But Interface Needs Improvement

Powerful Collaboration Tools, But Steep Learning Curve for Beginners
What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the dynamic linking, range linking, processes and Wdata features. It makes collaboration easy and reduces the amount of manual work required in financial reporting significantly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the platform and WData specifically can be intimidating or hard to learn for people who are not experienced or tech savy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workiva greatly reduces the manual work involved with preparing financial statements.
Intuitive and End-to-End, But Bulk Edits Need Improvement
What do you like best about the product?
I love how intuitive it is, and how easy it is to sync data with qualitative reporting. I manage our annual Impact Report and it's a fantastic end-to-end tool for folks to use across our business, from initial data collection all the way through to design.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to do bulk changes or edits across large swaths of data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workiva is helping us with our annual impact report, which is our main disclosure for our sustainability efforts.
Streamlined SOX Compliance with Workiva's Efficient Workflow
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Workiva for approximately four years specifically for the GRC portion, and I find it incredibly beneficial for standardizing the testing and remediation process for SOX compliance. It allows for easy handling of sub-certifications and comprehensive documentation of control and risk design. The setup process was facilitated excellently by using a third-party service called embark, making the introduction to Workiva smooth and efficient without the need for further customizations. I appreciate the standard control forms, test forms, and the streamlined workflow for PVC requests and certifications which significantly enhance our operational efficiency. Moreover, Workiva integrates seamlessly with various tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat, which I find very useful for uploading necessary artifacts. I am so satisfied with Workiva that I would certainly consider purchasing it again and have even recommended it to other vendors, who subsequently found it valuable enough to purchase themselves. Overall, I have a high regard for Workiva's capabilities, which is why I would recommend it on a scale of nine.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find Workiva's visualization capabilities lacking compared to specialized tools like Tableau. Management visualizations are increasingly important, and I feel Workiva could improve in this area. Additionally, while Workiva has an AI component, I believe there is room to further focus on and strengthen it to enhance its capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I find Workiva standardizes the testing and remediation process for SOX compliance, easily handles sub-certifications, and documents controls and risks comprehensively.
Great Task Management, Needs UI Polish and Better Comment Handling
What do you like best about the product?
The task creation, review, approval, and coordination between parties semantics works well and is capable. It is easy to upload files and share.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI and UX works but could use some more polish. Many of the text fields and comments strip out newlines upon submission which makes later reading of those comments more difficult. Unsure if this is our configuration, but I did run into places where I would have liked to add more comments or metadata (not edit the submission data) but was unable to due to it being in the 'review' state.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration and work tracking between our external auditors and us.
User-Friendly and Intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive, ease of navigation, user friendly, real-time data to track status of work
What do you dislike about the product?
Cannot alter the white backdrop. White backdrops cause eye strain and blurred vision to users with astigmatism.
