The Ultimate Solution for Data-Driven Research Teams!

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I'm excited to share my experience with Dovetail! This user research data repository is constantly evolving, and the enhancements—especially with the addition of AI—truly elevate the experience! It’s clear that the team genuinely cares about making data manipulation easier with every update.

Importing data from CSV files and video recordings is incredibly straightforward, making our workflow so much smoother.

My team and I are absolutely loving our journey with Dovetail, and we can't wait to explore all the amazing features it has to offer!
What do you dislike about the product?
For those storing research data in places like Figma the migration of old insights is slow and manual.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail has truly changed the game for my team! Before, we were juggling research data in local files and emails, which made it tough to find past insights or follow up with users. Now, with Dovetail, we can upload everything in one place, and the search feature is a lifesaver! We can quickly find what we need without the hassle. It’s made our workflow so much smoother and helps us make better decisions. I can’t imagine going back to the old way!

Good for qualitative analysis, not great for insights discoverability

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail is a great platform to analyze qualitative data from user interviews. We use it for all qualitative research projects, at least 2-3 times a month. The platform offers many solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of this process, such as automated transcripts, tags, and AI features to detect relevant quotes and help organize data. They also provide project templates so the platform is easy to use and implement.

Their customer support is great and always provides helpful resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
Qualitative data analysis: While Dovetail is pretty good on this front already, they could add a few features to make this process easier.

- Speakers in the transcripts are not automatically assigned.
- There is no way to timestamp the notes so it's challenging to use and understand them in the context of the interview.
- There is no way to write down insights as you analyze the transcript.
- We need to manually add transcripts from Google Drive which is time-inefficient.
- Create AI summaries and look for relevant themes with AI based on provided hypotheses we try to test during research.
- Based on provided hypotheses and interview transcripts, provide assessment of how well we were able to address the hypotheses in the interview, what we can improve in the script to do it better, and notes for improvement for the facilitator.

Research repository: Insights in Dovetail are not easily discoverable.
- No way to tag insights,
- No way to save search filters for others to use,
- No way to see all research in a simple, easy to navigate view.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps our team analyze qualitative data. We are currently trying to centralize all our research data in Dovetail to make it a one-stop shop for all insights at the company but we're having some issues with that.

My favorite product research tool, best on the market for repos

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Dovetail for years; I first became a user when I acquired and implemented it at a Series C startup as their first and only UXR. I’m continually impressed with their dedication to iterating on its features and functionalities. I really appreciate their community channel where we can ask questions, give feedback, and make feature requests. Dovetail has done taxonomy right from the start, which is the most important aspect of a repository tool. The maturity of the analysis features has grown a ton in the last year alone, especially with their introduction of advanced AI—even now expanding it to auto-tagging and tagging suggestions. I was recently on a contract with a company that had extremely outdated tooling… it was painful to go from doing work that previously took me a few hours with Dovetail to then taking many days. Thankfully I still use Dovetail for my volunteer and side projects, but yea I gained a new level of appreciation for Dovetail this year. It’s the best on the market and certainly worth the investment if you have the budget.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initially, it was difficult to use it for survey research but I found a good workaround for how they designed it at the time. For me, one of the most exciting things in the pipeline for Dovetail 3.0 is better support for survey data. It’s a good starting point, and I look forward to how they scale it to support large surveys.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Discoverability of research data, independent / self-serve review or synthesis of insights, dissemination of research work, and general reduction of duplicative efforts.

Streamlined UX Research, But Setup Needs Improvement

  • October 13, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I find Dovetail incredibly valuable for its ability to streamline the process from customer interviews to extracting insights and saving both time and money. The use of AI to quickly summarize and extract common themes from customer feedback is immensely helpful. I also appreciate how it integrates seamlessly with tools like Zoom and Google Suite, making the workflow efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
I found the initial setup of Dovetail quite difficult and time-consuming. The early version of the product required a substantial amount of effort to establish a tagging system, template, and other necessary configurations. I also struggle with organizing files and projects when multiple teams are using Dovetail, as it becomes challenging to manage and sort through the various documents and initiatives efficiently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Dovetail to streamline the process of extracting insights from customer interviews, saving time and money with quick analysis and AI-generated summaries.

An Invaluable Tool for Structuring User Feedback

  • October 13, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We’ve been using Dovetail at Catarse during a critical redesign of our crowdfunding platform, and it’s been an invaluable tool. With a large, active user base, gathering and making sense of feedback could have easily become overwhelming. Dovetail streamlined the process, helping us structure input efficiently and focus on the most impactful improvements. It’s played a crucial role in shaping the direction of our platform’s evolution.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, we don’t have anything we dislike about Dovetail. If we had to complain about something, it’s that we wish we had discovered it sooner! It’s made such a positive impact on our workflow that imagining how we managed without it feels like a distant memory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We’ve been using Dovetail to collect, organize, and analyze all our user interviews. Previously, managing interviews and feedback was time-consuming, but now we just upload the video, and Dovetail handles the transcription. Its AI-powered features help us quickly understand key feedback points. Recently, we connected Dovetail directly to our Zendesk, giving us real-time insights and streamlining the process even further.

Sharing our customers reality vs assumptions

  • October 13, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has been a huge help in speeding up our team’s learning. Being able to share video highlights from interviews makes it super easy for everyone to see the key insights quickly, and it’s been great for keeping stakeholders engaged. The platform is constantly improving, which has made it easier for us to make data-driven decisions and get useful insights faster. Overall, it’s made a big difference in how we work
What do you dislike about the product?
It's evolving fast and I need to keep on top of what has improved to benefit from the improvements! Not a bad problem to have, just a prioritisation problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralising findings and insights for cross functional teams to leverage.

What do you like best about the product?
- Functionalities:
Transcribe and highlight interviews to share with all stakeholders easily

- Good customer support
- Good-ish AI implementattion that addresses real problems
What do you dislike about the product?
Core features like workspace tags or fields are locked by expensive enterprise plan that a company like ours can't afford.
Interface could be a bit clunky from time to time
Some inputs could be better automated with integreations (eg Hubspot, Featurebase...)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Knowledge sharing with team members and leadership
- Analyzing insights efficiently

Incredibly useful

  • October 13, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ive been using Dovetail for user research for 3 years now, it is definitely one of the top SaaS companies for User research. The new AI features are not perfect but incredibly useful. the ability to transcribe right in the product and have a summary created within minutes is amazing. I absolutely love the short clips that are created from all the tags, a perfect small video to present to product teams about a specific feature easily created for you.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it was easier to manage tags in a big team. it is hard to scale the usage of the product and we have had more success in using it within a smaller sized team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
somewhere to store and digest user research

Dovetail is the research repository that keeps our team organized

  • October 12, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail understands the role it needs to play, and does it well
What do you dislike about the product?
Dovetail is pricier compared to other products, and have removed a key feature away from the Team plan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail allows us to record and store any customer interview or usability test, so that it can be reviewed later. Across many customer interviews, we are able to tag notes that are automatically transcribed, so that we can review for patterns and insights to improve our software product. Dovetail allows us to have a system, visibility & process and standards for these interviews, instead of independent software, and hand written documents on a shared drive.
