Best tool for turning user feedback into insights
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has made it very easy for my team to collect user feedback in one place, process it meaningfully and provide actionable insights for the rest of the product development process. I love the automatic transcript (which is very accurate) and the ability to tag highlights easily in it. But the best part is that these tags can be easily compiled into reels that can be used as evidence or summary of our findings.
Their customer support has also been very responsive and helpful in explaining new faetures.

What do you dislike about the product?
We found a limitation in the ability to integrate with other tools in our tech stack in order to automate the research-to-feature process. Auto-tagging exists but it can't integrate with other software which makes it limited to manual review for now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collecting and processing user research data.
A Force Multiplier that Saves Costs
What do you like best about the product?
Using Dovetail was simple to get started with as the onboarding workflow is very well documented and transparent. The platform was extremely easy to get integrated into your research operations process and we quickly began using it on all projects that needed analysis work. Dovetail allowed us to move our UX Research war room style approach into the cloud while remaining highly collaborative amongst the team. When the platform added its AI feature set, we were able to better utitlize our most senior resources thanks to the offloading of the more tactical tasks of research analysis and allowing our researchers to focus much more on the interpretation of the results that were highlighted by the tool. The platform allows us to multiple the effect of each researcher we have by providing them with the toolset that allows them to focus on the most impactful and important parts of their skillset.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the challenges that we have had with Dovetail is in finding a reusable configuration of the platform for an organization like ours. We have often desired deeper controls on a client experience layer. The platform feels as if it has a few hurdles that stand in the way of being a great experience for organizations that do research work on behalf of many different clients instead of a select few.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem Dovetail solves for us is the analysis of research work. We reap two prime benefits from using the platform, transparency and force multiplication. The machine assisted analysis allows our researchers to dedicate more time to intrepreting insights instead of cataloguing for later interpretation. Another problem the platform solves for us is having a referencable repositiory of user data for our clients, we are then able to extract more value out of each round of research by making the data available in perpituity for later emergent questions it may answer.
Dovetail is good, but expensive for what it offers
What do you like best about the product?
I love that it is a repository for research. It works better than Confluence, or Sharepoint. It can also grab video transcripts which is helpful. It is easy to use, and people can generally find what they are looking for in there without much help.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is expensive to use. We don't have many users, and it is essentially a place we use for storing past research. So as a digital drive for hosting videos and research decks, it is very costly. Video transcription is great, but it's not hard to do anymore, so it's not really a huge value add like it used to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storing research reports and videos in a place where anyone can access it at our company. Tagging videos with identifiers for easy searching. Video transcripts that are searchable. Also, creating video clips and highlight reels.
Wonderful functionality and updates
What do you like best about the product?
I like the automatic transcriptions of user interview videos. The transcripts are usually highly accurate to what the user is saying. Even if they are not, you have the ability to easily change what the transcript says.
I also like their Tagging feature - the way you're easily able to use Tags you already created or create a new one right there on the spot. The Tags also keep a running count of how many times they have been used which is helpful for determining where there might be issues in your interface or what problems users are facing. Having the ability to apply more than one Tag to any content is helful too.
Customer support is fantastic too!! The Slack Community (if your org lets you access Slack) is a great resource.
Lastly, the fact that they are continually updating the platform is great!! Always using the newest designs and technology to make the platform even easier to use.

What do you dislike about the product?
There's really not much to dislike about Dovetail.
If I had to pick one thing, I would say that because the system is so flexible and you're able to use it for anything, there is almost a lack of ... guard rails or guideance for how to set up your proejcts, etc. Like with MS Word, you know what to put in a table or into a paragraph. But with Dovetail, since it is SO open and flexible, it is almost too open. If that makes sense.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Dovetail as both an insights engine (to help identify issues with our website) and as a research repository (to have one central location where all of our data and insights are stored). Dovetail is great at both of these tasks/purposes/solutions.
Dovetail is currently the best tool to create you research repository
What do you like best about the product?
It's simplicity, it have powerful functionalities but it doesn't overwhelm you with the ammount of options it offers.
It shines in processing videos and transcripts, highlighting sections, categorizing and summarizing text with it's AI.
Also allows you to create templates which are great to guide your team.

What do you dislike about the product?
The management of PDFs and CSVs. It do offers the possibility to upload this types of files but it needs to improve how it works, the pdfs look super small and are hard to read and to highlight and the CSVs upload process still is clunky
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows us to centralize all of our research in a single place
It's been a game changer for our team
What do you like best about the product?
We are pretty new to Dovetail but have already seen a massive benefit from using it. Our designers are able to analyse their research faster and bring collaborators and stakeholders onboard much faster. Our customer facing teams are able to now access customer insights quickly and easily, allowing them to be better informed about their feedback and therefore serve them even better. We have been able to share our research on a larger stage across the company, helping us show the value of design. We are really pleased with it, it's a tool we now use daily. I highly recommend Dovetail to anyone looking to help their research teams be more efficient and have their research be more visible and transparent.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing specific - it took a bit of time to get all of the templates and tags set up, but that was always to be expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research discoverability and visibility
Faster analysis for our designers / researchers
Repository to store all research
Customer feedback loop
Data-driven data decisions

Dovetail Rocks!
What do you like best about the product?
AI functionality along with tagging gets us to our key findings super fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface can be bit difficult to learn.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail makes turning qauntative and qaulatative data into answers / findings super fast and easy.
Great way to centralize your customer data
What do you like best about the product?
I love the flexiblity of Dovetail. When I need to get to insight fast to decide on the direction of what I'm working on, I can easily ask Dovetail for answers. And if any customer or market data is missing I can quickly conduct my own investigation and analyze all kinds of data in a fun to use tool. It's great!
What do you dislike about the product?
Dovetail is flexible and I highly recommend taking time to think through how to set up the solution to scale. It's easy to get started with one-off projects without thinking through how stakeholders will engage and leverage the tool as well. Ultimately Dovetail show compounding returns when the whole enterprise is connected to a single source of truth when it comes to customer insights, and that takes some planning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I needed a quick way to analyize customer data from multiple sources and present it out to execs and stakeholders to decide what to build next.
Dovetail is a blessing for any team building up their Research & Analytics stack
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail's a blessing for user research; it's got a lot going for it.
It's great for keeping all your research artifacts in one place. Interviews, surveys, customer feedback - you name it, Dovetail can handle it. And finding things later? Super easy. It’s enabled non-researchers to more readily surface prior learnings, without the need for research staff to recall what has been done (or sift through the ocean of Google Drive where research was previously archived). Workspace-level tags have been a godsend in helping refine searches, especially as your repository grows.
As for qualitative analyses, Dovetail’s got some serious muscle here. It integrates with most video conferencing software to make importing interviews seamless. Transcription is usually pretty accurate—though it’s more likely to error when it comes to industry jargon and accents from non-native English speakers. This isn't a huge issue though, as I haven't found a more accurate tool. Tagging is straightforward and works well collaboratively.
Dovetail has a lot going for it. It’s one of the more robust repository & qualitative analysis tools on the market. It's saved us an immeasurable amount of time over the years. It has some UI quirks and I wish the pricing structure didn’t keep changing. But despite its issues, it’s one of the first tools I’d recommend to anyone looking to build up an organization’s research division from scratch. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier.

What do you dislike about the product?
The UI keeps changing though, which can be challenging to adapt to, especially for frequent users.
The pricing structure has changed a lot over the years, with the paid plans generally becoming much more expensive.

What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike about Dovetail is that it can be a bit pricey for small projects. Also, it takes some time to learn all its features. And the way its organise the informations, can be a bit tricky for beginner.
