We love using Dovetail!
What do you like best about the product?
We like being able to store all our research in one place and search it all together. I also love the transcripts and the link to the videos to easily show customer feedback as well as create the highlight reels.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be hard to organize data, especially with a large enterprise organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem is our research repository and it helps us to collect data in one place and easily share with others
Makes our jobs easier

Wish the AI features were more robust, but they have improved
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

The best tool for organizing interviews and finding themes
What do you like best about the product?
Great interface. It's easy to upload content and keep it organized. You can also highlight important passages and find themes, which you can then tag- which is such a time saver when you're revisiting interviews years later.
What do you dislike about the product?
The price. My organization can't afford to give everyone access, so the information needs to be shared in different ways.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It lets all of the designers on the team organize their content in the same place. We can find common themes across our products.
The best tool to compilate interviews
What do you like best about the product?
It's a perfect tool for studying and compiling interviews. It's easy to use, and it creates a data bank with many insights that facilitate the analyses. So, I frequently use it, at minimum every month. It's helped me link a lot of interviews that I realized, with various themes, to connect them all and search. Perfect!
What do you dislike about the product?
The transcript in portuguese brazil could be better, its takes a lot of work to rewrite everything. ,
Also to give some courses with how to use, best practices in research and compilate interview data, tagging.

Its perfect to analyse all the recordings , building one huge data base , that I can search everything and tag. Helps me to create insights with evidences, to link contexts and easy to share with the team
Dovetail is a great place to be fast
What do you like best about the product?
I particularly enjoyed the dovetail onboarding. Rarely have I seen a product so well-designed to be understood intuitively.
Generally, dovetail in it's previous incarnation provided everything needed to do the qualitative digging for insights.

What do you dislike about the product?
The functionality has a small downside for visual thinkers. While text and video are easily tagged and spectacularly searchable, the same doesn't apply to images within the notes.
Also, the transcription just doesn't do german as well as one might hope. That's not a problem, but it would be nicer to have direct quotes more accessible.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail streamlines the process of digging into video content and creating actionable highlights for stakeholders. Specifically the ease of switching between detail and the whole context is a particularly lovely feature. The opportunity to communicate findings supported by how the conclusions came about in reasonable time makes alle the difference.
Love This Tool! Strong foundation, excited to see it scale!
What do you like best about the product?
I cannot imagine going back to how I was analyzing things before. The other repo competitors in this space don't really compare to Dovetail IMO.
The UI looks really modern and inviting.
The global AI search is amazing!
I love the feeds and am super excited for the AI podcasts.
My stakeholders love using Dovetail!
I enjoy the Dovetail community on slack.
The pace of product delivery is great!
The speed of their support team is fantastic as well.
They offered trainings and taxonomy workshops as a part of implementation and that was really helpful.

What do you dislike about the product?
Initially, trying to figure out the structure of Dovetail and how to use it can be overwhelming.
I wish they would offer more education materials for viewers / consumers of research, vs just researchers.
I wish access levels were more robust.
I wish there was better filtering and logic in place for search.
Their AI tagging and highlighting is really cool, I just wish it was more robust/accurate so it'd be suitable for day to day use.
One thing I wasn't expecting to be difficult but turned out to be lacking are the limitations on managing workspace fields/tags in bulk. For example, lets say I added a country field for each of my interviews and i wanted to go back to my old interviews and assign a country to them. There is no bulk, repository wide way to apply this. You can do it project by project, or interview by interview, but I have 1000+ of these and that would take so much time. This is a problem cause taxonomies change over time and need to adapt in many different ways. Hoping they pay attention to improving this aspect of the product to help make it more scalable.
I wish their PII redaction features weren't exclusive to the highest tier. I know enterprises often need this more, but this is more of an ethical issue than anything. Making it simple to protect participant privacy shouldn't be limited to those who can shell out for the highest priced tier. I think they should repackage this feature in a lower tier, but try to replace it with a new, less essential feature at that enterprise tier.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail takes large amounts of unstructured, qualitative data and makes it easy for my company to leverage it whether through reports I make my self or giving them the tools to explore this data independently.
Great research tool made even better
What do you like best about the product?
Great for keeping track of my research. It's speeding up research massively by transcribing and auto-highlighting/tagging interesting moments in the transcript. I've been waiting for those AI features for a while.
Also, the Slack community is really helpful and staff is super responsive. It's been great to see Dovetail evolve.

What do you dislike about the product?
Not much, tbh. Maybe the navigation could be a little easier when deep down in a project but apart from that, I'm super happy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analysing user research. Storing the analysis and insights as well as make them accessible to my whole team.
Great way to log user feedback
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use UI and easy to search through feedback reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
No real dislikes spring to mind to be honest.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Logging feedback from user interview sessions.
Indispensable part of my customer research toolkit
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail have done an amazing job of tackling some of the most tedious aspects of qualitative research and analysis, which allows me to work faster and deliver more tangible and engaging insights to my stakeholders and clients. I'm particularly looking forward to using some of the recent features which support stakeholders to self-serve insights even more smoothly.
They're clearly listening closely to their own customers and continuously improving and evolving their product.

What do you dislike about the product?
As the product has been through some pretty significant changes, there's been times when I've needed to re-adjust my process and ways of structuring research data. Not a major, but this can take a bit of extra time and effort to adjust!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making qualitative data and insights more manageable and accessible for everyone.
A time-saving gem
What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Dovetail for 4-5 years, and it’s easily one of my favorite tools. Before Dovetail, I manually managed notes and transcripts in Google Docs—it was messy and time-consuming. Dovetail has completely streamlined this process, making everything quicker and much more organised; I think the way I use it is still possibly very basic, but I remember learning the basics to get started very easily.
I use Dovetail almost every day - I write discussion guides every one/two week and log in daily to upload recordings, access old insights, etc.
What I love most:
- The ability to store recordings, transcripts, and insights all in one place for each project.
- The automated features like transcripts, summaries, and highlighting save a ton of time. They're getting better and better, and honestly save me so much time.
- The interface is fantastic—intuitive and easy to use, even for non-researchers like me.

What do you dislike about the product?
While I love Dovetail, there are a few challenges:
- As a small organization, only a few people (~3) have accounts, making it hard for the team to access recordings and transcripts. I’ve worked around this by sharing summaries and recordings via Slack.
- As a designer, not a full-time researcher, the research process (writing goals, guides, recruitment, analysis) still feels time-consuming.
- I wish I could pull insights across projects more easily, rather than having to copy recordings into a specific project to create highlights.
- I'm having issues with the Google Drive integration - for some reasons, I can't pull through recordings automatically, and I have to download and upload each time

Manual, time-consuming tasks related to user research - Dovetail isautomating processes like transcription, summarisation, and highlighting, which means it's saving me a lot of time and ensures everything is neatly organised in one place.
It’s also improving collaboration between me and the PM on my team. By storing all insights, recordings, and transcripts in a central location, we can easily share findings and work together more effectively.
