A powerful, user-centric analysis and socialization tool for any organizational insights function!
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail combines user-friendly design with robust functionality, making it accessible not just for UX researchers and other insights functions (customer support, product marketing, data science, etc.) but also for non-research stakeholders across the organization. Having an easy-to-use tool helped us build crucial cross-functional relationships through collaboration. Building highlight reels of research clips was especially powerful and impactful. Feeds were also utilized heavily to give stakeholders a place to "view the latest knowledge" from our research studies. Leveraging Dovetail helped us significantly improved the value of user experience research (UXR) within our organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dovetail is constantly improving - this is great, though the constant change made it slightly more difficult to establish a process long enough for it to stick. For example, we changed how we built our report templates, changed permissions for stakeholders to access our data, and how we integrated with other tools.
To be clear, I wouldn't want it any other way! I love that Dovetail consistently asks for and implements user feedback.

Dovetail helps us socialize insights and build cross-organizational empathy
Incredible tool!
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has been an incredible tool for our team! It's user-friendly and easy to navigate, making the research process much easier. The AI support has been a game changer! especially with the auto-tagging feature! It really has helped me to save more time when tagging for consistency in our insights. We've really enjoyed how intuitive the platform is and it has become an essential part of my workflow. I highly recommend it!
What do you dislike about the product?
The AI support for tagging is a game changer, but it could be improved to recognize more items that need tagging. I'd love to spend even less time on manual tagging.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Documentation, documentation, documentation!
Dovetail is a life saver
What do you like best about the product?
Prior to dovetail, our videos and call were either scattered all over google drives or transferred as tribal knowledge (a lot of which was outdated and not relevant). The best parts of dovetail are how it keeps all of my projects organized, tagging and highlight content, allowing me to synethesize across multiple interviews or across multiple projects to generate insights. I love being able to take a snip and make a reel, that has been very powerful to show to leadership. We've also created personas for our users, so I like the flexibility that Dovetail provides with additional data that you can create and filter by.
What do you dislike about the product?
They do keep making a lot of changes that impact how I have things setup and organized. I'm not a big fan of the Ai work yet. I still feel like the quality that I can produce out weighs the speed of ai. The transcripts are not always perfect but I do like the control the edit them. I wish we could use two languages in one call. We often meet with customers that speak portuguese and we have a translator. But the transciption when they talk gets totally messed up. Even though I can't read it, it would be nice because I could highlight and show the timing of when they were talking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail keeps my repository organized. Dovetial helps me gather a lot of qualitative data and come up with insights that guide our product. Dovetail helps me narrow quotes by persona.
Changed the way I analyze user interviews
What do you like best about the product?
I love the way Dovetail offers auto-transcribing videos (to my surprise it worked really well with Polish language), and jumping through that video by selecting the right parts from transcription. With highlighter and tagging I can quickly find the most interesting parts of the video.
Before, my team rarely watched the recordings from usability testing, but it changed with relevant clips made in Dovetail. And it really changed their attitude to feedback when they were able to see participants reactions, instead of just summary.

What do you dislike about the product?
When I started to use Dovetail I felt that there should be more guidance on how to organise my work in that tool so it would be most helpful. I had to spent a lot of time to figure it out, and re-iterate on my initial ideas.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me to find new insights and present them in a format that is more convincing for the stakeholders.
Great for interview highlights
What do you like best about the product?
Great way to store customer interview videos and create highlight reels to share with wider business to build customer empathy.
What do you dislike about the product?
* Dovetail doesn't integrate well into the ways our company shares information (Slack and Confluence). This means we have ended up using Dovetail for storing videos but still using Confluence/Slack to share highlight notes and tag relevant team members
* Transcript not perfect
* When copying quotes from Dovetail into another document, the "speaker" text is included meaning I have to go back and delete.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Central repository to save interviews. Quick way to create highlight reels to share with team
A Great Way to Document Insights
What do you like best about the product?
We do a lot of user research in my company and Dovetail helps keep everything in one place. It's easy to use, it's fast to upload all the content and it helps me keep our insights organized by themes. I have been using it for several years.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am not a big fan of the new AI features, I don't think it really adds anything to my analysis process. I also miss the previous search features, now it feels a bit harder to find what I need accross projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A way to analyze different research data in a single place and quickly search and gather insights.
Enables beautiful reports, video clips, and roll-ups of information
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has well thought-out flexibility and functionality. I like that I can tag information and then see it together, and that they're always making intuitive updates to the functionality (for example, the Canvas format has come strides since it was first released).
What do you dislike about the product?
Taxonomizing and tagging the information is a challenge that Dovetail does not provide a lot of support for. They suggest leading workshops across teams, but at a company of 100k+ employees and low UX maturity, this is not realistic. I also get nervous about the focus they're putting on AI. I'm all for adopting new technology, but the AI features are annoying, unreliable, inaccurate, and now I can't easily search for simple information like in what Notes the word "bulk" appeared. It doesn't always make sense to semantic search for insights across products when I'm looking for very specific information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides a central place to track and keep qualitative user data. It makes it easier to grab clips and quotes and use them to convince product teams to make good decisions.
Dovetail has been a game changer for our product team
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has opened up customer feedback to our entire product team. I use this product daily, and we have hundreds of hours in our repository that allow our product team to get a temperature gauge on our customers on any subject we've collected feedback on.
The AI summaries are amazing and allow users to quickly understand the customer problem by summarizing across all mentions. Overall the product is incredibly easy to get up and running and sharing out feedback outside of Dovetail. We are so happy to have a repository to organize product feedback.

What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit tricky navigating around the product sometimes and I wish we were able to timebox search results. For example, it would be helpful to know feedback about a particular feature since its redesign 6 months ago. Any feedback before them would not be as relevant and we would want to exclude those from the summary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail brings all of our user research feedback into one place and allows any user to easily find information about what customers are looking for. It is also makes doing qualitative research analysis a breeze.
I can easily organize my notes and analyze the findings super fast, moving projects along faster.

Why Dovetail is my go-to tool for qualitative data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Dovetail for qualitative data analysis since 2021, and it has significantly improved my workflow and efficiency as a qualitative researcher. Before switching to Dovetail, I used Google Docs with a makeshift plugin to export insights to Google Sheets. I’ve also experimented with Miro, but nothing compares to Dovetail’s ease of analysis. I’m especially excited about the upcoming 3.0 release, with its new AI features that I hope will further accelerate my work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm really excited about what’s to come with Dovetail 3.0. I’m hoping that manual tagging of every interview becomes a thing of the past, with the AI able to identify patterns based on just 2-3 interviews and auto-code the rest according to themes predefined by the researcher. The "human in the loop" principle is crucial to me, and I’m hopeful that Dovetail 3.0 will make this leap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Faster Qualitative Data Analysis with Dovetail

The ability to reuse research data across multiple projects and search specific fragments or keywords makes the platform incredibly efficient. With these features, Dovetail helps streamline research workflows and accelerates insights.

Dovetail helped us find our way to product market fit
What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility of the tagging system and how it connects with insights
What do you dislike about the product?
At the beginning was kind of difficult to set up, but once you get a deep dive things go much smoother
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We could validate our hypothesis so we could start developing what now is our core feature. It helped us to understand deeply what our customers want with the ability to tag what the interviewer says and then going up in the view so you finally have a perfectly categorized items to work with
