Great for aggregating UX research
What do you like best about the product?
I love being able to upload a video or transcript, and tag the content. I can add multiple tags to a sentence if I need to, which provides the flexibility necessary to accommodate the nuances of customer interviews. I love being able to see charts and summaries based on the tagged content.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system of project organization has always seemed a little confusing to me, and I would like that process to be more intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They make it easy to aggregate sometimes unruly UX research. What I mean by "unruly" is that feedback from customers never fits easily into preconceived categories. But Dovetail allows me to sort through that and see which insights rise to the top.
Our hub for user research
What do you like best about the product?
I love that you can bring in videos or audios and have them transcribed. The tagging system allows you to compile evidence from across user interviews and present them together.
What is most impressive, is how much Dovetail has developed their app and features over the last few years that I've used them. It's also intuitive to use.

What do you dislike about the product?
I find that pages have latency and there is a slight lag as you type. It doesn't feel as "real-time" as other tools like Google Docs. I find myself needing to wait and work slower.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail is solving the challenge of having a centralized user research repository. It acts as our research repository where our user interviews are collected, categorized, and turned into actionable insights.
Vital Research Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail is by fair my favorite and most important research tool we use at Geoforce, I use it all the time. My favorite feature is probably the ability to highlight with specific tags and then use those tags to surface trends accross multiple interviews. We've also set up our users with personas, which allow us to filter quotes based on their role or internal employee vs external customer. Dovetail has done an amazing job at being flexible so that I can customize and set it up the way that works best for our customer and four each project.
What do you dislike about the product?
The transcripts aren't always perfect. Sometimes I have to edit. When voices are similar, sometimes it gets confused on who was talking.
We also have some calls where two languages are spoken on the same call (English and Portugeuse). So the ability to translate both for tagging and timing purposes would be really helpful. At the moment the transcript just gets super lost when someone talks in Portugeuse.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail gives me direct quotes from customers that I can use to show leadership why particular features are important outside of pure quantitative data.
Putting a company and name to the quote adds a lot of power. Dovetail helps me keep all of my interviews organized. And I love how dovetail allows me to synthesize accross multiple interviews or projects to see the big picture.

Dovetail is great, but I'm nervous about the direction it's moving
What do you like best about the product?
I love using Dovetail with my students to work on interview transcripts, code them, develop themes, re-code them, and then write research reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm worried that Dovetail is replacing useful features with AI nonsense that is, to be completely honest, just not very good at highlighting what is actually interesting. We are essentially being forced to pay for these AI features and having the features we *chose* to pay for, previously, removed and put into higher tiers of the software. It's a bummer, because I used to exclusively recommend Dovetail due to it's very straightforward approach to supporting the kind of analysis I do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We keep track of our interviews in Dovetail and code / develop themes within the interviews.
Great tool for processing user interviews
What do you like best about the product?
My team and I have been using Dovetail for three years now, and it’s our go-to platform for processing user interviews. It's incredibly easy to upload a recording and start tagging insights. The UI is simple and beautiful, and we love it!
What do you dislike about the product?
The navigation within the app can sometimes be confusing, and we've struggled to expand its use cases. While we use it extensively for processing user interviews, other types of feedback are kept separate, which creates some friction that we haven't been able to resolve yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail helps us keep all recordings and insights from interviews in one place. The major benefit is the ability to use tags to classify insights and quotes from customers, making knowledge easily accessible when needed. We often take screenshots from Dovetail and paste them into our work boards to help set the context for meetings or to advocate for a user pain point we believe should be addressed.
A powerful tool for streamlining user research
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail simplifies the process of organising and analysing user research. Whether you're running usability tests, interviews, or surveys, you can configure projects to suit your specific research needs. The transcription, tagging, and automatic summarisation, saves researchers an immense amount of time by speeding up data processing. While the automated highlight grouping feature makes it fast to pull out key insights and identify patterns across projects.
The platform is great for sharing research with the wider business, in particular the highlight reels are easy to put together and share, bringing user feedback to everyone, not just the research team.

What do you dislike about the product?
Having more customisable ways to present insights could be useful to enhance the overall experience and allow researchers to better tailor findings for different audiences and business needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail helps us speed up our research and distribute findings across the business, saving time for both researchers and stakeholders.
Great research repository tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like that there is a site-wide search where I can type keywords and find anything that is related. I also love the direct import from Zoom so I can link up and transcribe my interviews, which saves me a TON of time. Of course the tagging is great, it's important for our organization to quantify the qualitative research we get.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't love that only insights get prioritized for viewing, I wish some of the ReadMe parts of projects did too. I am also struggling a bit with some of the new AI features, and how they are applied (I'd like to turn them off for certain parts of the product and I don't figure out how)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem we had before Dovetail was research results and insights in multiple places. We were storing market research projects on SharePoint (which is a pain on its own to build), user research (some on SharePoint), and somewelsewhere. Dovetail helped us get EVERYTHING in one place, so we can direct our co workers who are looking for research to ONE PLACE. It's also extremely easy to create an insight or project page. Once we have everything done, you click a template, copy and paste the info you probably already have from your PPT into the format and share. It's amazingly easy and so helpful to link out for our teams.
Great single place for all of our research to live!
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail makes it really easy to get all of our Zoom interviews into the system fast with their direct integration. This means we can focus more time on actual analysis and insight generation. I love that their model allows everyone in our organization to be a viewer at no additional cost - the reason we went with Dovetail was to democratize research access across the org and this is a critical piece of that.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mechanics of tagging could still use some work, but they are very consistent with updates that usually improve the user experience. I'm hoping for more AI that helps me use my own knowledge and experience to generate insights, not just purely AI generated insights.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research used to be spread across the company in different pockets - now it's all in one place, organized, and searchable. People can either self serve, or get some quick help from our research team to find exactly what they need. This helps everyone make decisions faster.
The source of truth
What do you like best about the product?
How accessible it is for all people who do research, not just researchers
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the amount of information stored within is overwhelning if not saved ocrrectly - and file conventions can become confusing if not all users are not on the same page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Becoming a source of truth for all user research insights, kncoking down barriers between teams and the organisation as a whole.
An amazing partner for user research!
What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has been a fantastic resource for me and my team as we've expanded our user research operations. It has helped promote engagement across cross-functional partners, provided a central repository for storing and searching through research, and helped with analysis and dissemination of research findings. I can't imagine how we would do research without it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is expensive; we would like to have more contributors but currently this is beyond our budget.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Lack of centralization and organization of research
Analysis is too time-consuming
