Enables beautiful reports, video clips, and roll-ups of information

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has well thought-out flexibility and functionality. I like that I can tag information and then see it together, and that they're always making intuitive updates to the functionality (for example, the Canvas format has come strides since it was first released).
What do you dislike about the product?
Taxonomizing and tagging the information is a challenge that Dovetail does not provide a lot of support for. They suggest leading workshops across teams, but at a company of 100k+ employees and low UX maturity, this is not realistic. I also get nervous about the focus they're putting on AI. I'm all for adopting new technology, but the AI features are annoying, unreliable, inaccurate, and now I can't easily search for simple information like in what Notes the word "bulk" appeared. It doesn't always make sense to semantic search for insights across products when I'm looking for very specific information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides a central place to track and keep qualitative user data. It makes it easier to grab clips and quotes and use them to convince product teams to make good decisions.

Dovetail has been a game changer for our product team

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail has opened up customer feedback to our entire product team. I use this product daily, and we have hundreds of hours in our repository that allow our product team to get a temperature gauge on our customers on any subject we've collected feedback on.
The AI summaries are amazing and allow users to quickly understand the customer problem by summarizing across all mentions. Overall the product is incredibly easy to get up and running and sharing out feedback outside of Dovetail. We are so happy to have a repository to organize product feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit tricky navigating around the product sometimes and I wish we were able to timebox search results. For example, it would be helpful to know feedback about a particular feature since its redesign 6 months ago. Any feedback before them would not be as relevant and we would want to exclude those from the summary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail brings all of our user research feedback into one place and allows any user to easily find information about what customers are looking for. It is also makes doing qualitative research analysis a breeze.
I can easily organize my notes and analyze the findings super fast, moving projects along faster.

Why Dovetail is my go-to tool for qualitative data analysis

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Dovetail for qualitative data analysis since 2021, and it has significantly improved my workflow and efficiency as a qualitative researcher. Before switching to Dovetail, I used Google Docs with a makeshift plugin to export insights to Google Sheets. I’ve also experimented with Miro, but nothing compares to Dovetail’s ease of analysis. I’m especially excited about the upcoming 3.0 release, with its new AI features that I hope will further accelerate my work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm really excited about what’s to come with Dovetail 3.0. I’m hoping that manual tagging of every interview becomes a thing of the past, with the AI able to identify patterns based on just 2-3 interviews and auto-code the rest according to themes predefined by the researcher. The "human in the loop" principle is crucial to me, and I’m hopeful that Dovetail 3.0 will make this leap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Faster Qualitative Data Analysis with Dovetail
Dovetail enables faster qualitative data analysis by identifying patterns and themes across different research studies. The ability to reuse research data across multiple projects and search specific fragments or keywords makes the platform incredibly efficient. With these features, Dovetail helps streamline research workflows and accelerates insights.

Dovetail helped us find our way to product market fit

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility of the tagging system and how it connects with insights
What do you dislike about the product?
At the beginning was kind of difficult to set up, but once you get a deep dive things go much smoother
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We could validate our hypothesis so we could start developing what now is our core feature. It helped us to understand deeply what our customers want with the ability to tag what the interviewer says and then going up in the view so you finally have a perfectly categorized items to work with

Great for aggregating UX research

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love being able to upload a video or transcript, and tag the content. I can add multiple tags to a sentence if I need to, which provides the flexibility necessary to accommodate the nuances of customer interviews. I love being able to see charts and summaries based on the tagged content.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system of project organization has always seemed a little confusing to me, and I would like that process to be more intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They make it easy to aggregate sometimes unruly UX research. What I mean by "unruly" is that feedback from customers never fits easily into preconceived categories. But Dovetail allows me to sort through that and see which insights rise to the top.

Our hub for user research

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that you can bring in videos or audios and have them transcribed. The tagging system allows you to compile evidence from across user interviews and present them together.
What is most impressive, is how much Dovetail has developed their app and features over the last few years that I've used them. It's also intuitive to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find that pages have latency and there is a slight lag as you type. It doesn't feel as "real-time" as other tools like Google Docs. I find myself needing to wait and work slower.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail is solving the challenge of having a centralized user research repository. It acts as our research repository where our user interviews are collected, categorized, and turned into actionable insights.

Vital Research Tool

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail is by fair my favorite and most important research tool we use at Geoforce, I use it all the time. My favorite feature is probably the ability to highlight with specific tags and then use those tags to surface trends accross multiple interviews. We've also set up our users with personas, which allow us to filter quotes based on their role or internal employee vs external customer. Dovetail has done an amazing job at being flexible so that I can customize and set it up the way that works best for our customer and four each project.
What do you dislike about the product?
The transcripts aren't always perfect. Sometimes I have to edit. When voices are similar, sometimes it gets confused on who was talking.
We also have some calls where two languages are spoken on the same call (English and Portugeuse). So the ability to translate both for tagging and timing purposes would be really helpful. At the moment the transcript just gets super lost when someone talks in Portugeuse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail gives me direct quotes from customers that I can use to show leadership why particular features are important outside of pure quantitative data.
Putting a company and name to the quote adds a lot of power. Dovetail helps me keep all of my interviews organized. And I love how dovetail allows me to synthesize accross multiple interviews or projects to see the big picture.

Dovetail is great, but I'm nervous about the direction it's moving

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love using Dovetail with my students to work on interview transcripts, code them, develop themes, re-code them, and then write research reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm worried that Dovetail is replacing useful features with AI nonsense that is, to be completely honest, just not very good at highlighting what is actually interesting. We are essentially being forced to pay for these AI features and having the features we *chose* to pay for, previously, removed and put into higher tiers of the software. It's a bummer, because I used to exclusively recommend Dovetail due to it's very straightforward approach to supporting the kind of analysis I do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We keep track of our interviews in Dovetail and code / develop themes within the interviews.

Great tool for processing user interviews

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My team and I have been using Dovetail for three years now, and it’s our go-to platform for processing user interviews. It's incredibly easy to upload a recording and start tagging insights. The UI is simple and beautiful, and we love it!
What do you dislike about the product?
The navigation within the app can sometimes be confusing, and we've struggled to expand its use cases. While we use it extensively for processing user interviews, other types of feedback are kept separate, which creates some friction that we haven't been able to resolve yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail helps us keep all recordings and insights from interviews in one place. The major benefit is the ability to use tags to classify insights and quotes from customers, making knowledge easily accessible when needed. We often take screenshots from Dovetail and paste them into our work boards to help set the context for meetings or to advocate for a user pain point we believe should be addressed.

A powerful tool for streamlining user research

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dovetail simplifies the process of organising and analysing user research. Whether you're running usability tests, interviews, or surveys, you can configure projects to suit your specific research needs. The transcription, tagging, and automatic summarisation, saves researchers an immense amount of time by speeding up data processing. While the automated highlight grouping feature makes it fast to pull out key insights and identify patterns across projects.

The platform is great for sharing research with the wider business, in particular the highlight reels are easy to put together and share, bringing user feedback to everyone, not just the research team.
What do you dislike about the product?
Having more customisable ways to present insights could be useful to enhance the overall experience and allow researchers to better tailor findings for different audiences and business needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dovetail helps us speed up our research and distribute findings across the business, saving time for both researchers and stakeholders.
