A great mid-point tool for the less technical

What do you like best about the product?
We use Census to enable data to pass through from our main data warehouse (from the frontend) to our internal systems - most notably Salesforce. Once a query is in place, setting up the model and a sync is very very easy - I particularly love the ease with which Census enables mapping of certain data fields to Salesforce fields. Syncs are reliable and we are always kept up to date if there are any issues via email notifications.

I will also say that I hugely appreciate Census's decision to enable product support via a bespoke Slack channel - it makes dealing with any issues that do arise, or questions that we do have, much more productive and pleasant as everything is centralised and can be seen by everyone. It also means that we don't need to depart our usual company comms procedure - something which is very welcome in this age of live chat, email support, callbacks, on demand Zoom calls etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only issue I've come across with Census is that the default setting for all models in an instance is for it not to record the sync logs anywhere. This has to be requested and set up separately (Warehouse Writeback) - which can be an issue if not known in advance and the sync logs are suddenly required. Otherwise, everything is great!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making syncing data from an enormous BigQuery warehouse into our internal CRM systems a breeze via intelligent mapping and customisable syncs.

A solid rETL platform that I have relied on for data piping into 3rd party platforms

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- UI and ease of use is topnotch
- Support, at least in our case, has been fantastic, lovely bunch of people to work with
- Rapid product iteration in response to issues and emerging use cases. Thank you!
What do you dislike about the product?
- I guess due to the balancing act of 80/20 (20 percent of features cover 80 of customer use cases), when it works it works however if you fall outside of the beaten path it can get flaky.
- Some new areas such as segment builder is still in its infancy
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting data out of dwh and into 3rd party platforms

Transformative for ops and marketing

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've worked at two companies that use Census. Census was a game-changer at both. I can't overstate how transformative it is to be able to pass information from a data warehouse into a CRM or other tool using only SQL, without needing to go through an engineering department. Census accomplished in days what might have taken weeks or months to build into a product roadmap.
What do you dislike about the product?
No complaints! I haven't used Census directly for a few months, so they've probably added features for anything I might have found frustrating by now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Let's say your marketing tools don't know who is and isn't a customer. (This is a problem I've run into at multiple organizations I've worked with, from freelancing to full-time jobs; in some cases, answering the question "which of these email addresses is a customer?" required manual CSV exports!) You have a separate reporting tool that does know who is and isn't a customer. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could use the report query to push all the data you need directly to your CRM? Census does that. The interface is bare-bones in the best sense of the word: no useless features, transparent explanations of load times and syncs, simple setup.

Excellent reverse ETL and data pipelines tool

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Census interface makes it easy to connect two platforms, since the implementation and day to day usage were quite simple. Also, it has error detection capabilities that I haven't seen in other solutions. It also seems to have a very robust connection engines, since I seldomly experienced downtimes. That way, you don't have to necessarily keep an eye on it at all times and can be logged out of the admin platform for days.
What do you dislike about the product?
Census' principal downside is its price, since it can be quite steep for medium-to-small companies. It also lacks some on-the-fly transformations functionality, at least on the tier I was registered to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Used Census to ingest Hubspot data to different cloud platforms, and then feed it back to Hubspot in some capacity.

Census Review: Excelling in Data Integration and Ease-of-Use

  • November 16, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate most about Census is its remarkable capability to eliminate the need for extensive coding when pushing data into various system APIs. As someone managing both data engineering and data analytics teams, I recognize the immense value this brings. It not only saves a significant amount of time but also reduces the ongoing maintenance burden associated with custom code. This feature allows our teams to focus more on strategic data analysis and less on the technical intricacies of data integration. Census effectively bridges the gap between complex data operations and user-friendly functionality, making it an indispensable tool in our data management toolkit.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Census excels in many aspects, one area that could be enhanced is the control and customization of alerts. In our operation, where timely and accurate data flow is crucial, having the ability to direct specific pipeline alerts to designated Slack channels would significantly improve our response efficiency. Currently, the alerting system in Census, though effective, lacks this level of granularity. This means that alerts from various pipelines may not be as targeted as we would like. Being able to customize alert destinations based on the pipeline or data event would allow for more streamlined and focused communication within our teams. This feature would not only aid in quicker issue resolution but also help in maintaining an organized and efficient workflow, especially in a fast-paced data management environment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Streamlining Reverse ETL Processes: The primary benefit of Census for us has been its ability to streamline the reverse ETL process, particularly in eliminating the need for custom coding for different data payloads. This has significantly reduced the time and resources typically spent on developing and maintaining bespoke integration scripts.

Enhancing Salesforce Integration: By using Census to push data from our data warehouse into Salesforce (SFDC), we have improved the accuracy and timeliness of our customer data. This seamless integration ensures that our sales and customer service teams have the most relevant and up-to-date information at their fingertips, enhancing customer relationship management.

Identifying Customer Expansion Opportunities: Census plays a crucial role in our customer expansion strategy. It helps us track and highlight when customers are utilizing beyond their provisioned quota. This insight enables us to proactively approach these customers with targeted expansion or upsell opportunities, thus driving revenue growth.

Enriching Data in Intercom and Amplitude: We also leverage Census to enrich our Intercom and Amplitude datasets with key business metrics. This enrichment allows us to have a more comprehensive view of our customer interactions and product usage, facilitating better-informed decisions and more personalized customer experiences.

In summary, Census is not just a tool for data integration; it's a catalyst for operational efficiency, strategic customer engagement, and data-driven decision-making in our organization. Its impact goes beyond mere technical functionality, playing a pivotal role in enhancing our overall business processes.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keep in sync data in several datasources

User-Friendly Tool for Reverse ETL

  • August 16, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Census makes it easy for our marketing team to achieve personalization at scale in our omnichannel marketing without having to rely heavily on our data team. Their no-code UI is very user friendly and makes building our customer 360 a light lift using their reverse ETL.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be helpful to have a greater variety of self-service user training resources available, but as for the product itself I have not run into anything that I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Census helps us to build our Customer 360 by syncing our data warehouse with our SaaS tools. This has allowed us to break down data silos and stop wasting our organization's technical resources on writing Python scripts that are unscalable.
