Asana: A practical tool for group collaboration

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Asana pretty much since it's inception (I remember reading an article on how Facebook employees had developed it for internal use) and I immediately recognized how useful it could be for group collaboration. There are different projects and assignments and each individual on a team can be assigned various things in a clear way. I also like that there can be follow-up and comments, which make it much better than a simple to-do application.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface can be a little confusing for me at times. This might be because it has changed over the years and is different from when I first used it, but it can be a little confusing to follow any changes that have been made or comments applied to a task.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have a small team yet each of us has a lot of responsibilities. Being able to clearly designate and delegate our assignments has been extremely helpful. It makes sure that nothing falls through the cracks.

Love this software so much!

What do you like best about the product?
I love the ease of viewing my tasks and all current tasks. Using the project boards similarly to "Trello" helps to visualize ongoing projects across the department. Super easy to assign tasks to others and keep all data in one consolidated location.
What do you dislike about the product?
There have a been a few bugs here and there. Plus the site will occasionally go down (more than other softwares I have used) which kinda throws off the department work flow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Benefits: having everything in one consolidated location for each person as well as various tasks across the department.

Convenient & Cute

What do you like best about the product?
The layout of Asana makes it easy to find things and visualize your to-do list!
What do you dislike about the product?
At times, the many options can be a little convoluted for a small business/team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has given my team a place to put all of their ideas that is more organized than a bunch of Google Docs or emails! It also helps collaborate on social calendars in a quick way.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The reoccurring feature is great for the calendar so that you don’t have to set up reoccurring events every new year or month.

Asana was a useful platform for creating and managing persona to-dos and processes.

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoyed Asana's clear layout for personal tasks and to-dos.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana failed to be a useful platform for team workflow and project management.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are no longer using Asana for our team's needs. Again, it was a great tool for personal management of tasks but did not work well within our team environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would not recommend Asana for management of team tasks, projects, and collaborative workflow. It is useful as an easy personal task agency but does not make a team workflow more efficient.

Using Asana for more than just project management

  • October 24, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
Asana has many features. We use the tagging, the custom fields, templates, and more. We have integrated it into our weekly meetings and use it how we build an agenda, as well as managing grants and materials we collect from partners. I also like that there is an app and I get notifications of updates and it's easy for me to update tasks even when I'm not in the live meeting. I appreciate how easy it is to integrate Google Drive, and also have Clockify connected so that I can keep track of my time for each task.
What do you dislike about the product?
People who are new to it feel intimidated. When we try to incorporate partners outside. We also don't quite think that the timeline feature is completely helpful since it's not printer friendly. It is helpful on the screen but some of our team members would like it printed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have more productive meetings and and set up is easy now. We solve the problem of tracking MOUs and other documents. We also solved the problem of not knowing where materials are anymore, because they are always linked and housed in Asana.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think about the goal of using it.

Great tool for manual business processes

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Clear, easy to use and understand with simple user interface
What do you dislike about the product?
If you're able to automate your business processes with APIs, then you don't need Asana. But if you do, there's not a lot to dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Manual business process flows

Different environments (online and app) that confused me

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
You can track your tasks and it is very useful when collaborating with other co-workers, asking for a specific task or tracking my own
What do you dislike about the product?
Not everybody in the organization knows how to use it and the tracking is different when using the online version or the app. It would be an amazing tool if it would be easier to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking tasks in my work with my coworkers, my team and my own ones. If used correctly, it would be an even better and useful tool
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for a basic training to take full advantage of this tool

Great, Flexible Project Manager

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It easily organizes everything we’re doing as a business. Like any project management software, it takes regular checking in on everyone’s part to use it effectively. The phone version gives notifications which is perfect to get the attention of all your staff and stay on top of things. It gives good updates to a boss on who’s completed what tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
It seems like it could be simpler, but the complexity gives good customization and might cover some people’s needs better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are keeping track of projects that need collaborated on. Not everyone works in the office since we work with subcontractors. Gets every project to completion.

The Platform I Rely on Most

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a project management tool that I use everyday. The auto-generated to-do list keeps my team on track. All project details are contained in one place. It's easy to see updates, share files, and have a conversation. Asana makes it easy to stay organized and also report productivity to other departments. I even brought it with me to a new company when I changed jobs and it revolutionized their workflow & process.
What do you dislike about the product?
The typical pay-per-member-per-month gets expensive quickly. I've been reluctant to add on some part or freelance employees due to cost which is a detriment to my team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workload distribution can be tracked, productivity monitored, and project assets organized. You can even connect it to outlook. This solves crazy email chains and misplaced assets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I'd highly recommend trying Asana. The organization will be helpful for managers, users, and even sharing with other departments or administration.

It’s great for assigning a task to someone and following up on that

  • October 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- The action items of our staff meetings are based on Asana tasks
- All the history is dated
What do you dislike about the product?
- At least in the free version of Asana, there is no way of setting condition, such as, if there X task is not completed, task Y is not active
- Also, tasks completion should require an approval from the person that created the task or the admin for that project
- Anyone can modify the description of the tasks
- If someone was assigned a sub task, but the person is not a follower of the main task, he/she cannot see it
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are now able to track each other’s tasks and move forward with projects that were not developing well beforehand
