Asana has been such a helpful tool in the way of managing tasks within our team and larger office.

What do you like best about the product?
It really has been such a game-changer in how we're able to track the progress of multiple tasks simultaneously. The functionality has brought a newfound organization to our team.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface can be difficult to navigate at times, but I think that's more down to me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our roles are very cyclical in nature, so there are different tasks for different times of the year. Asana helps in keeping them all on task and bringing them to completion.

One of my favorite project management platforms

What do you like best about the product?
The interface and overall user-experience. They recently updated their application to allow for toggling between List and Board view. Before, you had to choose and commit to the type of view you wish to go with. I personally like the Board and Timeline view best. You can also create subtasks so it is not cluttered. There's also an inbox that contains all updates that are relevant to you (whether you're assigned a task or are following it), which is great for people who don't like receiving email notifications
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like Asana's philosophy around why they don't offer certain functionality. I have 2 examples.

If you have static assignees for tasks and want to keep those assignees on a template, the tasks will show up in their task list, which is extremely annoying. Asana offered a workaround that virtually did not resolve the problem and despite complaints coming from literally dozens of users, they have shown no indication that they will simply fill the feature gap and prevent templates to show up on task lists. Manually assigning assignees to tasks and subtasks, and then adding each due date manually is honestly so time consuming when your projects have a lot of moving parts.

Asana also doesn't allow multiple assignees to 1 task. I can think of many use cases where this would be a good functionality to offer. Again, the community thread requests they include that ability and Asana responded by saying that they intentionally designed it this way so there's no confusion over responsibility. A user summed up my response perfectly: "shouldn't that be left up to the teams to decide?"

Additionally, the notifications settings are not divided up enough. For example, I want to receive notifications for task updates, task completion, comments. I do not want to receive updates when someone likes a task, comment, etc. because I do not care. There are almost 20 things that fall under "Status Updates" and it's a take it or leave it option. To be able to fine-tune what status updates I can receive over email would enable me to turn on my notifications. At this point, I don't bother.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of all moving parts in a project. I have visibility over what needs to be done, and I can keep track of all conversations in the app.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try. There's a lot you can do. And there's also the option to do very little. It has a lot of breadth and improvements are being made on a consistent basis. They have enough funding to continue running, and I know it'll only get better with time.

What do you dislike about the product?

I have enjoyed using Asana to manage action items that come out of projects I am involved in

  • October 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it can send you notifications and is easy to access and quick.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I specifically dislike about it. It's generally a good product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Asana as a project management tool. Since I haven't actually led a project with it, I have never been in charge but from what I've experienced, this software definitely notifies all of us of our actions and allow tasks to have the opportunity to be completed on time!

Great project management tool

What do you like best about the product?
The layout is very easy to understand. The platform itself is very useful. The ability to comment on tasks and tag people in them is one of the best parts. It makes it easy to update everyone with the progress. The mobile app is also a very great part of Asana. The ability to get push notifications and other alerts when someone assigns you something is great. You can also respond to comments or requests either directly from your phone or by email.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it feels like there are almost too many features--useful for some people, but it could feel overwhelming at first. The UI can also be a bit clunky at times. This is not a major issue (and can be useful for some people).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used Asana to help manage peoples day-to-day and long term projects and tasks. We saw a lot of a benefits and increased productivity with everyone using it. They were able to manage everything far more efficient. It also cleared up a lot of confusion in our company. Prior to using Asana, there was a lot of confusion on people's roles, but using Asana really cleared that up for everyone.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn all of the features first before fully implementing. It does a lot of things and can get confusing at first. Play around with all the different types of layouts and customizations. There isn't just one cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all approach for every company.
