Great organizational software for personal and business life

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is incredibly easy to use. I use both a paid version professionally, and the unpaid version for my personal life. It syncs with your computer and your phone app, so I use it both on-the-go for grocery shopping and at my desk at work. The interface is clean and intuitive, and the free courses have made it very easy to ensure that I'm using the software in the way that best suits my team. The ability to save custom reports has become a time-saver for one-on-one team meetings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some requested features are not rolled out as quickly as desired, like the recently added Portfolio view (a way to see all projects in one place). Asana does not integrate as nicely with our current time-tracking software as we would like, so I had to disable the auto-sync function and do some manual work until we figure out a workaround. In my opinion, the best features are only available via paid plans which may be a downside to some people.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana keeps all of my projects in one place, so you can see who on your team is working on what projects or tasks. You get a bird's-eye view of your team as a whole with the Portfolio view (which our Director uses), and a granular view via the tasks assigned to projects (which our Project Manager uses).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out for free and take the free training courses, they helped me understand the nuances and options of Asana and how to set it up to work best for my team.

Amazing and good looking task/project management tool which increases productivity!

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It brings clarity and transparency to our project. Increase in efficiency across the whole team and project. Clear responsibility and ownership of tasks. Massive reduction in E-Mail communication. It keeps improving and I always have the impression that the new or improved features are really well thought out. I never «not liked» a new feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
The implementation of new price plans with very cool features but that it is not possible to upgrade single users or teams to the new features. For a small company it's simply too expensive to upgrade the whole organization - especially if only a few users would benefit from the new features. Beside this - nothing. I'm a big fan and asana evangelist from day one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to run two major open-air cinema festivals in Switzerland. Specifically for the whole project and team organization. We coordinate our external creative agencies and plan our social media content with it (editorial calendar). We also use it to coordinate and distribute customer care request. Communication between office team and on site staff. Onboarding of new team-members.

After using asana for several years I could not imagine to go back to my old way of working. It is such an essential part of how I structure my work and team. I realized that it improved our teamwork and efficiency big time and in general people really like to use it and realize it's potential after some specific «aha monents». Working in a creative environment (events organization) I also realized that the clean and positive look of asana makes it easier to «convince» new team-members or agencies.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try and stick to it! It will change your professional life. Try to setup specific projects and test it for yourself to get used to its benefits. In the beginning it might be tricky to convince your team to make the change. There you need strong commitment from your side and it helps to create / show specific cases where asana improves the way you work.

Project Manager

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In the simple way of assigning to team colleagues, inform them of activities I am involved in. In the way communication is conducted through activities. The free content on the site is already more than enough for team training. Besides understanding the tool, the articles give us a business sense of the main methodologies related to activity management and time management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently, the feature I use the least is conversations, but after attending the Asana Together Ambassadors course, I identified some ways to internalize and take advantage of this feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication, we have solved 80% of the problem of emails stuck in inboxes. Through forgotten meetings, we managed to schedule meetings, and Asana became the main tool for controlling minutes and action plans. Inform without cluttering email inboxes. The team loved the "like" feature to acknowledge receipt without needing numerous return emails just with the word "acknowledged." Another very common problem was the involvement of several directors who were only meant for monitoring; the Directors loved the tool, and this helps a lot in Implementation (note this tip). Agenda/Calendar, Asana provided visibility into what each team member is working on at any given moment, giving more visibility to the manager and the staff teams, who had a lot of difficulty obtaining this information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
That they follow the guidelines of the Asana team for the implementation and motivation of the team was essential for the success of the implementation and team engagement here at the company.

I don’t know how I ever worked without Asana

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It keeps me and my whole team on track. On days I am not near my team I can review tasks completed to ensure they are staying on track. I can assign or re assign tasks as needed when priorities change.
What do you dislike about the product?
some functionality is only available at a higher tier or subscription. There currently isn’t a way to upgrade some team members the whole team need to go up together. Portfolios and workloads are currently outside my tier of subscription,
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It help keep little things in the loop, we can reprioritise on the fly. Task which need to move between teams flow smoothly and are resolved quicker. We use the mobile apps to take image or post updates on the go. Meeting minutes and tasks are completed right in meetings. Everything from major projects to personal development plans are all in there. Things just move better and faster especially when you have a high volume of tasks across a team. I can work collaboratively across the world and keep things moving.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get a trial version and start small. Use it as a daily to do list first then you can expand out into other uses.

What do you dislike about the product?
So far there are integrations I really miss to perfect my workflow.

Take the courses that Asana offers, it will take your productivity up a notch.

Best Software to Organize Tasks for a Team

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Constant collaboration and the ability to manage who owns each task
What do you dislike about the product?
I would have liked to see more automation on time periods. The user is often left to create however many columns they see fit and I could see this being streamlined.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's almost like having a robot project manager that keeps track of everything for you.

The easiest project management tool to learn

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've tried almost a dozen different project management tools over the years, and most were either too confusing or had too many complex features. Asana is the one I finally settled on for day-to-day use. It's fast, easy, and flexible enough to work for teams large and small.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much to dislike. I can't think of anything that keeps me up at night. In the last year especially, a lot of the features people had been asking for were added.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana allows me to keep our team on track, and to know who is doing what. We also use it to save templates for certain repeat tasks. Asana saves us dozens of hours every week and reduces our use of email.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want simple and flexible, go with Asana. If you're an enterprise customer, you might need something more robust and complex.

    E-Learning

Best PM tool for creative and marketing teams

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The easy-to-use, beautiful interface is perfect for my team of creatives that often find other PM tools too clunky and hard to adapt to. As a PM, onboarding a team to a new tool is often pretty painful, but my teams are actually excited to use asana.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user permissions and admin tools are heavily lacking. With asana premium, you pay for each seat on the team yet literally anyone on the team has the ability to add people. For a large company like mine, I find it very cumbersome and difficult to constantly manage who is being given a seat on our paid account therefore having to pay for employees to access our premium account who we didn't budget for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Accountability and transparency!

    Computer Software

Solid work management tool for small software companies

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the sense of humor and flare around some of the customizations you can enable, like celebration animals. The ability to create Custom Fields at the premium level and use those across projects, as filters and sort mechanisms, etc. is great.

For me though one of the best features, hands-down, is that a task can belong in multiple projects. This makes it easy to have one project that's an entire product backlog, and keep a couple "major upcoming feature release" projects that we can add tasks to from that backlog as we go, keeping the backlog intact. We create projects for individual customers too, so we can see which customers have requested which features, which helps with prioritization and planning.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only wish for Asana is that more of the features were available at some of the cheaper subscription tiers. I work at small software companies and am self-employed, and there are times when I wish I had the feature set in my own Asana set-up that I have in the companies I work with, but I can't make the financial case to myself for it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've migrated our entire software product backlog into Asana, and use it for backlog management and sprint/release planning; we use it for our editorial calendar for our blog and customer support documentation; and we use individual projects for our paid professional services contracts. It's really helped us better manage all of those, but especially the paid professional services contracts--it's moved a lot of conversations out of email and our help inbox and into Asana directly, and the Calendar, Milestone, and Progress features really help us manage timelines and expectations with our customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try out the free version and really give it a test to see if it will meet your needs--the Conversation, Files, and Progress tabs have been some real gamechangers for us, and those aren't necessarily things people ask about out of the gate.

Asana allows our team to be organized and never forget anything.

  • June 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Since our company uses Asana, we have been able to standardize our processes, and everything is saved. Project management is improved because we know who does what and when. The personal organization is also more efficient thanks to the MyTasks tab ultra convenient to find all the actions and prioritize them. We have reduced the number of emails by using Asana. And most importantly, Asana is easy to deploy because very user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the difficulties with Asana is the management of subtasks, and the fact that a subtask is not naturally related to the project of the parent task. This is counter intuitive and leads to a lot of confusion among the teams. Another point, it is important to quickly understand how to regulate notifications otherwise we get a lot.
Portfolio could be very useful for project managers, but currently they are not available unless you pay for Business for the whole commany and the costs increase a lot. We would love having it, but users don't need those features at all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to Asana, we easily reproduce the processes that are repeated by creating models. Project management is fluid because everything about the project is centralized in one tool. In addition the Timeline is very easy to use and allows to easily have visual schedules and always up to date.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is very easy to use, and has a community of very active users to help you improve your use.
