Easy to use, boosts productivity

What do you like best about the product?
We use Asana to track our projects - most projects follow a very similar path, and Asana provides a method to template projects, makeing it a snap to start tracking a new project. We hold weekly update meetings, and can quickly run down the list of open tasks. Having Asana as a mobile app allows our project managers to see progress while traveling, and actively during meetings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Training new team members in how to use Asana takes time - not everything is intuitive. The keyboard shortcuts are extremely helpful and powerful, but are hard for new user to pick right up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to track projects that don't fit into a traditional IT style project has been a huge help. We can now track both development projects and field work related projects in one place.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're not sure if Asana is right for your company, sign up for the free level and use it to track personal projects, and get a feel for the app.

Visually appealing, but requires a learning curve and training.

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to use once you get the hang of it, but it took me about a month. I recently set up an editorial calendar for the company's blog and so far find it MUCH easier to use as an assigner than when tasks are assigned to me for other projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
The inbox feed is AWFUL. I constantly either lose track of comments or see them days later, especially if I step away from Asana to work on one task and come back to several new messages. I've had to start using email notifications, but because half of our team uses Citrix, I get 2-3 emails for EVERY new task, comment, or change to a project, which means my Outlook inbox is constantly at 70+ emails, and I end up missing a lot of non-Asana related messages.

I've noticed my team does not use all of Asana's features, or doesn't use them correctly. The blog is helpful, but can be difficult to follow.

No one at my job uses the dashboard, subtasks, "mark as waiting on", or status update features. I'm a new hire and assume they don't know about many of these.

This is not directly an Asana issue, but as part of our workflow, I have to wait to check off a copywriting task I've completed until it's approved, designed, and sent to proofing (which is also usually my task. This often makes My Tasks list very long and shows more than half as overdue, which gets confusing when I have to repeatedly click into old tasks to check the status. I'm sure Asana has addressed this, but it's too confusing for my team to figure out the fix.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workflow for creative projects, from request to copy to design to approval.
Tracking time spent on projects.
General to-do list with due dates.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I like it better than Basecamp and Workfront, but see if your team can get training, and ask Asana how to best implement their tools to fit your specific workflow.

Keeps team on track & accountable

  • July 27, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
Asana allows our team of 20+ designers, programmers, marketers and sales staff to stay current on projects. We utilize the team structure to keep different groups of staff informed and on task. There is less confusion about who is responsible for tasks and in what time frame items need to be completed. Calendar views make it easy to see each individual's work load, helping us to assign work, schedule projects launches, and keep clients informed. We started with the free version and used that for a few years before upgrading to Premium to add more features.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no way that we have found to share a project with a client without them seeing all aspects of that project. It would be wonderful to be able to assign certain tasks to a client (as a guest account) and have them only view those tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Greater organization of maintenance tasks
Better understanding of employee work load.
Clearer project launch schedules.
Recurring reminders for client communication.
Better and faster team communication.
Less emails required, which results in less time spent searching for past emails.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the free version first. If there are things the free version can't do, make sure the Premium version has what you need before upgrading. The upgrade process was a bit cumbersome; I don't think we had the best personnel involved in ours, but in the end, we got it done.

ASANA = best tool for keeping track of deadlines & cross-functional project management!

  • July 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
ASANA allows you to assign tasks and deadlines to team members, whether they are on a different team or on your own team. You're able to make sure everyone knows of the tight deadlines. ASANA sends email reminders and notifications often. One can create customized teams for different crossfunctional projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
The notifications ASANA sends re: deadlines and reminders becomes too much at times. Sometimes when you get too many notifications from ASANA - they feel like SPAM. You see it and you think, "yeah, I know. I know" and may forget some deadlines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project management and Cross functional collaboration. Keeping everyone accountable.

Absolutely love every part of Asana!

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is ridiculously easy to use! This really helped the team get going faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no native time tracking built in
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were moving our company away from a PM suite that had a ton of a features to a more simplistic fluid task assignment structure. Asana worked very well for this. Its beautiful design & easiness really helped get the team on boarded and used to the UI quickly
Recommendations to others considering the product:
great and easy solution to task management. More intuitive with better features than Trello

Flexible features - maybe a little too flexible?

  • July 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Low pricepoint! So many project management apps have a high price point and annual contracts - love the low barrier to entry with Asana.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana prides itself in the blank slateness - you can do just about anything - but that's almost a problem. It's not really set up - out of the box - for any functions. The templates are getting closer to be more helpful but it still takes a lot of time thinking through your processes and if you have multiple teams or clients you have to get each project setup and communicated how to use it - it's not immediately intuitive so adoption has been difficult in our organization .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project management, client communication and document storage. Biggest benefits is moving out of email for communication that's project/program related.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
With a low cost, it's worth at least checking out to see if it wil fit your PM needs.

Stable, powerful, and fun to use - a complete project management solution

  • July 26, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the option of using lists or cards, the speed of the application, the depth of organization I can go, and the ease of use. We invite our clients to their specific project and even they have no problem navigating it. Plus, it's awesome to see a Narwhal fly across your screen.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance suffers when other large programs are running on the computer. I also can't insert code snippets. That would be a killer feature for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have many clients who all have their own initiatives and scope of work. Asana allows us to manage all of that in one place. It makes it incredibly simple. It eliminates the need for bouncing around between tools. It's a communication, file storage, task list, and management tool all in one.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try. The application is actively being developed and it's a blast to use, not to mention extremely practical.
