    Computer Software

Simply presented document sharing across teams and departments

  • April 02, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Confluence is a secure way to share a ton of information not only between members of my team but across all departments. I mainly focus on documentation relating to technical support and Confluence has been a "one stop shop" of sorts when I need to find or update internal documentation. I like the Personal Spaces as a little area to have some fun with and also like the ease of use overall.
What do you dislike about the product?
The design itself doesn't lend well in any way towards customization of pages and the wiki-type input can be a bit of a learning curve if you aren't familiar with Wiki's editing options. The lack of customization could be a good thing if you're looking for something minimal and consistent but if you are more on the side of designing diverse pages then Confluence's options in that area will leave you wanting. One other thing that's a bit annoying is the "notify watchers" box is checked by default so you must keep an eye on that and be sure you actually want to send your sometimes very minor update to a whole slew of people. Search could use some work as it doesn't always seem as accurate as I'd expect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Confluence to keep up with documentation coming from various teams and departments as well as my own team's information. I use it every day and it's an invaluable tool for reference and knowledge. We've been able to create our own repository that's easily accessible, all in one place. I don't have to go schlepping through web pages since the information I need is compiled all within Confluence. It also pairs with JIRA, another tool we use.

Great if you put in the time to make it so

What do you like best about the product?
Simple, clean formatting. Many templates and good potential for organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes frustratingly difficult to make changes to formatting. I wish there were html support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Documentation for both IT employees and users alike. Great place to store and share internal documentation.

Excellent tool for communication and collaboration

What do you like best about the product?
I like the flexibility with Confluence. There really isn't much you can't do, and if you are using the other Atlassian products it meshes really well with those as well. This is a great tool for an intranet as well as a tool for documentation. You could use this tool to run a site that gives information about your company to shareholders.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of the flexibility of Confluence that is a little bit of a learning curve that takes place when first implementing the software. It can be complex and although there are templates to help it can still be a little overwhelming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Confluence as a means to store our documentation and to provide a knowledge base for our service desk and issue collection.

Decent for what it is

What do you like best about the product?
I like the simple format for pages and the markup language.
What do you dislike about the product?
Organizing information is not easy. It can be really hard to find something if it's buried in a giant left nav bar with 8 levels of nesting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's easy to slap together some content for internal use, if I just want to communicate something basic to my coworkers.

What do you like best about the product?
The capabilities of the system by itself are great but the direct connection with its counterpart Jira for ticket tracking is fantastic when set up properly.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you have it set up properly, there’s nothing to dislike. It is a great tool .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single system of record for requirements and documentation for product and project management

It's a nice, centralized location for all our info. Search is great. UX is meh.

What do you like best about the product?
Search across all domains. Permissions are helpful for managing visibility throughout the team.
What do you dislike about the product?
UX is clunky and ugly. Editing is slow an not always intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralized documentation hub. It's been great having one place to search for answers.

Document Organization

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a great solution for sharing documentation across a large network of employees. The permission options can be customized perfectly for various departments, from read only access to full editing permissions and more. Linking to Jira is hugely beneficial to tie documentation to actual pieces of work and everyone loves that feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Chart formatting is rough. If you make a table and resize it in any direction, everything moves, gets jumbled around and no longer lines up. It's a massive nightmare. Also, something happens during the save state of tables, when its reopened, some cells get smaller and can no longer be edited, which absolutely stalls collaboration on documents across the company. This also causes embarrassment when presenting in front of key stakeholders and the software decides to develop a mind of its own.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Linking Jira to Confluence is really handy for my company as we design software using agile. Our development work lives in Jira and all meeting notes and documentation lives in Confluence and everything ties across those 2 pieces of software really nicely and without much effort. Nesting in the side bar to keep everything organized is an appreciated feature.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confluence is great for storing, organizing, and sharing documentation across several employees. There isn't a great way to archive just yet, so if you have a lot of documentation, beware. Several pages and spaces will pile up and it can be hard to manage as your company grows. Seeing the page history helps in that manner, so you can delete or export spaces and pages you think are past their years of usefulness.

    Consumer Services

It is simple to use. It has good options to create tables, charts, diagrams, can create parent child pages. can look at version history and revert to older version in case of issues. provides good tools to enhance the pages
What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't have drop down menu options like Sharepoint.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking release/project/progam related activities. single view point for all release related activities
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Provide drop down options and template pages

    Financial Services

A great wiki tool for enterprise

  • April 02, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to navigate through different spaces, good formatting options, ability to collaborate and review other additions
What do you dislike about the product?
the search feature can miss certain articles, once spaces are expansive it can be tough to organize them correctly, wish there was a tool to set expiration dates on certain pieces of information or timers for re-review
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are centralizing all of our training, data documentation, processes for managing client requests, and other standardized business functions, as well as documentation for clients for business development purposes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you start out with an overall layout in mind, will help in the log run. Keep a log of articles that have time-sensitive information that needs to be updated. Put processes in place for updating articles and making sure articles get updated when information changes.
