Confluence: Great Workflow

  • April 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The layout of Confluence is simple and not too busy. I like how easy it is to find the tabs, links, etc. on the side of the screen for navigating the website. The updates listed on the home screen are quite helpful in showing who posted what, when they posted it, etc. I particularly like that there is an option to "view changes" to a document already posted.
What do you dislike about the product?
Confluence offers notifications to users when new content is posted, but though I have signed up for these notifications, I never receive them. I would like a more helpful way to stay up to date with what is going on with what has been posted and when. I am unsure if there is a smartphone app for Confluence, but something like this would be helpful as well for people who work remotely or on the go.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Confluence as a way to keep up with what the content creators in my company are doing. It is a great way for them to let me and other contractors know what opportunities are available for work. I particularly like that guides on creating content for my company are posted and maintained there as it makes them easier to find and access repeatedly than if they were simply in e-mail format. Overall, I think the opportunity to be able to stay engaged with the company even though I work remotely has been very helpful and has helped me improve my job performance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think this site works great for team collaboration and especially engaging remote workers in the company as a whole. It would be nice to streamline communication and notifications, so providing a way to do this or clarifying how users can receive notifications from Confluence would be helpful.

A Solid Tool that is Sometimes Used by Atlassian as a Testing Ground

  • April 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- You can start working from a blank page or from many supported templates
- Great comment system for collaboration and for users to ask questions on articles and blog posts
- Integration with JIRA
- WYSIWYG editor removes the need for having to know HTML or CSS
- Blog feature for sharing important news
What do you dislike about the product?
- Features are changed or removed with little notice
- System-wide outages have become more common in 2018
- Atlassian uses the production environment to test features without users being part of a beta program. This is problematic as depending on your company's usage of Confluence, the sudden change of features or layout could prevent work from getting done. As I write this, they are using the blog feature to test their page editor.
- Various bugs in editor which result in a loss of productivity (some due to using it as a beta ground)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company uses Confluence as a knowledge base for support agents and as a way to share news with team members. The support agents are located around the world and having a central knowledge base is key to keep all members in sync.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Know that it is a fairly solid tool, but the bugs, downtime, and use of the production environment as a testing ground can impact your usage.

Sensational Collaborative Tool

  • April 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
From the set up of a pages to creating the structure of a Confluence space, I have found Confluence to be incredibly easy to use. As part of the Atlassian suite, the integration with Jira is a great added bonus. The control panel makes for quickly formatting the rich text.

One of my favorite parts is the customization of templates. The feature I have used most often is the recurring use of the customized Meeting Notes template. It has proved to be an effective means for presenting to meeting attendees what was discussed and decided upon. Relating to that is what I like to consider as a hidden gem of Confluence - the consolidation of the action items from different meetings.
What do you dislike about the product?
There really isn't much. I guess one thing to call out would be around creating tables. It is very difficult to see the borders of the columns and rows. I find that I can struggle to know where to be entering the text within a cell. It was be nice if there were options to select the thickness of the lines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our project team had a need for a collaborative environment where members could share information to help educate one another. One key benefit I have come to realize is the ability to define permissions for which team members could access each page.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jump in feet first. You will not regret pursuing the use of Confluence for your projects and company as a whole.

    Computer Software

Works okay for code documentation but could be better

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the native integration with JIRA tasks, and being able to structure code blocks in the document itself. You can add lists pretty easily, and they have support for many different language. They have a relatively simple and useful WYSIWYG toolbar for the document editor, which is nice and convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the fact that it can be super buggy or even unresponsive in browsers other than Chrome. It makes it hard developing cross-browser applications and sites without having to switch and use multiple browsers at the same time. I have had it load very slowly and even crash several times on Firefox while trying to edit a simple page with a small paragraph of text on it. Not to mention that it can be hard to find the pages/documents you are looking for at times because the layout and structure of the pages can be relatively arbitrary and hard to link up together. I wish it could be organized by project, but I think you have to create them yourself, it seems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Confluence for organizing product processes, allowing for better development workflows by creating proper documentation for releases and new product features, collaboration on releases and documentation in general so that the development workflow is done correctly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are better documentation softwares, but this is the only one so far that I know have native JIRA integration. So if you are using Atlassian products anyways, this is a good way to go.

Great collaborative software with many uses

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great collaborative software that operates intuitively like a word processing document or wiki page; allows multiple user to edit simultaneously and is available in a cloud so that it can be accessed remotely if working out of the office; has great organizational abilities where each department can create their own space and subsequent hierarchy of documents ; also love the tagging users feature and task assignments which make it easy to stay on top of things that were mentioned in meetings great
What do you dislike about the product?
At this time there is nothing that I currently do not like. If I had to pick one thing it would be that I do not know yet how to create a checkbox to assign someone a task within a document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Able to collaboratively work and edit pages like in a manual . Also able to effectively take meeting notes and assign team members tasks
