There was nothing I was missing at confluence when writing documentation

  • June 21, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great configurability, lot's of option for custom formatting
What do you dislike about the product?
Paid plugins, a bit complicated to perform lookup for info
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed some single location for easy entering and storing requirement about our software product. Now everyone in my team is obliged to write a piece of documentation for every requirement change they get aware
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you use another Atlassian products like JIRA, Confluence will right choice as they have great integration.
You may also consider plugins pricing if default tool set is not enough for your business need.

The Only Wiki I Use

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is feature packed yet easy to use. It tightly integrates with other Atlassian products such as Jira.
What do you dislike about the product?
When things get complicated, Confluence sometimes does too much to try and solve a problem with a GUI that could be easily resolved with a markup language. You can structure your documentation any way you like, but that feels a bit too "loose". I'd rather have a little more guidance or even restriction to get my company's information organized logically.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence gives my team a permanent yet private place to document things. As a Software Engineer, we use it primarily for documenting requirements and code.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how things are categorized and organized neatly so that I can always find the information that I need quickly and easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
sometimes there seems to be no hierarchy between information so I need to browse from folders to folders to find the headings that I need to open.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We restored a bunch of information and regulations that we need to know for the job depending on different positions in confluence so that we can refer to them whenever we need it. I find it beneficial especially when I need to look up staff logs or regulation look-ups
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is easy to use, but I recommend you to skim through the headings of folders at the beginning so that you can click whatever you need quickly as needed. This will save lots of time looking for the information you need to know.

Great for teams

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a fantastic tool to use in any organization that needs documentation. Our company likes the ability to create different site pages for customers and organize the pages as trees.
What do you dislike about the product?
Confluence doesn't have a very engaging interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Great for knowledge sharing. Instead of asking another co-worker who may not be available as they are in the field, we get on Confluence and use the information there. This saves us a lot of time.

An Over-hyped Wiki

What do you like best about the product?
Its integration with JIRA is useful and the search feature is solid (though unfortunately required to find things).
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI isn't that great. For such a hyped company Atlassian has done little to make any of their products, including Confluence, user-friendly. Navigating spaces is a pain. Their mobile app is useless. They fell for the Microsoft Word trap of stacking on tons of feature without focusing on clearing solving problems. And I DESPISE the lack of quality filtering on notifications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Confluence to store information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think long and hard about whether Confluence is REALLY the best for your company or if you are just jumping onto an Agile-inspired-JIRA bandwagon. It isn't a horrible product, but for the price, it should be a lot better.

Great for creating a knowledge base

  • June 20, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use and has security settings to limit who can view which parts. There is also an option to write comments and @people to ask questions and clarify information on the page.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could use a calendar add-on. We currently create manual calendars.

We also have a hard time with the search. Its intuitive for pages you've already visited but harder to search through a knowledge base that has existed for many years.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A shared place to create/view information so it's not lost during staff changes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a good option since it is so widely used. If you have any doubts/questions, you can probably find the answer by entering it in google.

Confluence AKA The Lost Library

  • June 19, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a great way to do professional group collaboration and to share information throughout a workplace. The versioning features and options to merge if multiple people are working on a page work well and make it easy to recover work or see previous changes.

The document editing features are also quite robust- perhaps not as much as Microsoft Word- but excellent for something that doesn't specialize in it. Confluence is actually better at incorporating other file types into a document. It is extremely easy to drop in images, Powerpoints, PDFs, anything really, and have set it to display in the page just the way you'd like. Also, Confluence makes it easy to reference other pages in Confluence and JIRA. The linking system is easy to use, as their own links, when pasted in, automatically recognize that they are part of the same system and format in a special way to make it easy to see, like a specialized hyperlink. Copying pages is also useful for recurring meeting notes, and the side menu makes it easy to switch dates.

I also like the Spaces, which are used to organize information like an index. In my office, we have one Space per department. The permissions are controllable in case other departments should not be seeing the information there. The Spaces provide a focus for more information, rather than having things organized by topic, as each department contains more specific info.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search function in Confluence is probably my least favorite part of the system. I constantly end up in the wrong place, or can't find the information I'm looking for. The search has trouble with parts of phrases or words, such as part of a name of a page, or leaving off an 's' at the end of a word. The storage is amazing, but getting there is like finding a needle in the haystack. I end up 'Watching' or Favoriting all of the pages I use often. But good luck finding something new.

I believe my company does a good job organizing info- often I find what I need by exploring the Space. So it's not that the information isn't there, but that using the search bar is impractical.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a place to document processes and general information. Confluence has definitely provided a dedicated location for all of the long term documents, documentation of internal processes, and tracking info for projects. We needed something more organized and easy for collective use, and that is certainly what we've found!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is definitely a good place to store and share information. Much better than the company share folder that everyone has that's always a huge mess!
