Great tool for collaboration with room for improvement

  • April 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple and intuitive to create pages. Highly useful for my organization. Great tool for organizing and sharing up-to-date documentation. Allows you to set up permissions and restrictions on content. Clean interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation can be complicated, especially when you're part of a large organization that has a lot of content on confluence. It can be difficult to search for what you need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence is a great solution for keeping up to date with both customer-facing and internal documents. Because we have this central repository that we go to for knowledge and support, we can effectively and accurately do our work .

Decent share center for relevant information

  • April 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easily set up and add new informational articles for your team to keep up to date with the technologies and best practices that are relevant to their work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Somewhat disorganized - its easy to get lost in the mess of information with the layout of confluence; I'm not sure what they could do to improve the ux/ui but, aside from navigation layering (which can be tedious), its difficult for larger teams to clearly navigate the relevant information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sharing new methods of handling old problems as well as best practice documentation to keep the team on the same page.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you can't afford Sharepoint or don't want to support Microsoft then this is the software for you - if it had a better UX/UI I would highly recommend it.

Basically a customizable fancier wiki

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Article creation is easy and there are many templates. Plugins can be added to interact with other software, like databases and spreadsheets, JSON APIs, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the search functionality. It is brittle and often does not return what you are looking for right away.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Confluence for knowledge sharing and documentation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out, and get used to the editor. It is not hard to use but has its quirks. Make sure the search function works as you like it though.

A wikipedia on steroids

What do you like best about the product?
We use Confluence to define our roadmaps and specifications as a team, collaboratively. Confluence lets us create different spaces to stay on topic, reducing noise and maximising the chances of adding value. What we put on each space is relevant and easy to find, so we can focus on what matters.

In the software industry, software like this is vital. Not only we share information internally with the team, we can also give access to the customer, so they can update and review specifications. Everybody is in the same page because the tool allows total transparency.

Also, there are templates for the most common pages you'd want to create. I specially like the SCRUM page templates, so I can quickly document everything within the SCRUM workflow (daily meetings, sprint planning, retrospective meetings, and so on).
What do you dislike about the product?
It has steep learning curve for newbies, not because the product isn't intuitive -it is-, but because it covers a lot of use cases and it has a huge range of options. Getting to know the tool takes time, and product documentation & tutorials could be better to help with that process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used it mostly to define products and project scopes, and to write detailed specifications.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take some time to discover the product, and don't hesitate asking Support or the community if you run into issues.

Best knowledge sharing tool we've used

  • April 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All the intergration with the other Atlassian Apps. The Ease of use means anyone of any technical skill can use. Wiki Markup means an easy to use framework for building more complex documentation. Easy templating make consistent documentation a viable solution. Very customisable which means each wiki 'space' can look completely different. Plugins can easily add even more functionality to the system. Flexible to many teams needs and can easily be used across the whole department, with each team utlising the tool differently.
What do you dislike about the product?
Installing any form of plugin with additional licensing is a pain, even more so with maintainence. Using the cloud service is restrictive but self managing comes with additional maintainence time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solving the issue of sharing documentation between teams and improving knowledge share for dedicated teams. Logging project documentation and opening a public space for employees to reference for tools used by the company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Once the initial setup is complete, I would highly recommend that you setup a suite of templates to use by the teams. This ensures that the system is used consistently and really improves the level of documentation that is output from the system. You need to brainstorm the setup first as too many spaces can cause problems.

Good for what we use it for

What do you like best about the product?
Document control makes revisions manageable. Cloud storage makes access easy anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
Working with spreadsheets is not very easy. Multiple versions of them are stored instead of just one. Creating pages, instead of folders, is not as intuitive as you'd expect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm not sure if there's a cost benefit, but I think doc control is what most here are using it for.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Not sure what else is out there and what other features are offered compared to Confluence, but it's better than Sharepoint or a regular old folder on a network drive.

    Computer Software

Your answer to software documentation

  • April 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence lets you create documentation for your software while also providing a version control system. Like Google Docs, you can grant access to your peers for collaboration.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the need to download additional plug-ins to use certain formatting tools. All this can easily be integrated within the application itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence provides a documentation repository which is easy to access by all members of team and is thus greatly helpful for projects.

What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the formatting of pages was easier and more intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It keeps everyone on the same page and easy to update in real time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think Samepage might be more comprehensive and user friendly.
