Confluence for team documentation

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Our team shifted to Confluence in 2016, and the best thing we've been able to integrate is the detail of procedures, including many processes that have overlapping procedures to get to a resolution. Confluence allows for a streamlined outline of these processes
What do you dislike about the product?
The search functions of confluence seem somewhat limited, as there's not a way to prioritize specific phrases (that may not be in the document itself) for coworkers to search.

I haven't found a way to receive emails for newer documents created that I haven't already subscribed to, and the amount of emails generated can be overwhelming
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customer Support processes and general policy & procedure outlines. Having all information in a centralized location is a big benefit for on-boarding new team members and keeping veteran team members up to date on any changes / updates.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a team or dedicated member to keeping the documentation up to date for the best results.

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to keep a centralized location of information that team members can reference
What do you dislike about the product?
The version that we have, the UI can be confusing, and learning curve on how to use it to its fullest potential.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping team members on the same page regarding updates to projects.

Great tool for documentation that changes frequently; search needs some work.

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to make super dynamic pages. You can go basic and throw up quick entries or take advantage of more customized pages (or templates!). Our team frequently updates entries, and Confluence makes this really easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search functionality isn't always the most useful. There seems to be a bit of a lack of "intuition" in searches. The top results aren't always the most relevant.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence solves the problem of not having a central documentation base which is accessible and user-friendly for all teams and team members.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is perfect for documenting general company info (benefits, events, etc.) as well as internal company systems and routines.

Good place to document tables for users and IT.

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence makes it easy to set up pages to document table structures for users. We use this documentation within IT and for operational analyst to reference for reporting needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it is hard to find where documentation has been placed. This may be more of an organization and training issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it to document current sql loads of tables. This comes in handy when other IT professionals need to clarify the meaning of a column and to help with looking into a problem.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confluence does so much more, but I would recommend it for documentation of all kinds.

CONFLUENCE: User Review

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All-in-one place for project docs.
Ability to nest folders and files in tree structure.
Ability to tie it in with JIRA.
Tagging linked to Outlook.
What do you dislike about the product?
Confusing to Edit docs at first.
Cannot have directories of the same name as another directory, even if it's in a totally different project space. Very odd btw.
Tables are terribly low quality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having docs in a central place online makes it much easier to look up project docs, how-tos, etc. It took folks here awhile to acclimate to the software and get in the habit of using it. At this point, everyone across the board has some project space within Confluence. Not just my team, but pretty much every one within the company.

It also ties in with JIRA and Outlook nicely to more easily associate stories/bugs and notify users of changes or requests respectively. For instance, when a user's input is requested on a particular task, they can easily be tagged in the doc space and receive an email notifying them of said request.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give yourself time to familiarize yourself with the tool. It has a steeper learning curve than you think, particularly when Editing docs as well as storing them where you want to. Also, embedded tables are clunky and bare bones (too bare bones for our needs). However, that seems to be the only option in order for Mac and Windows users to both be able to see the data.

A simple way to organize our internal projects and requests

  • January 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how simple and user-friendly the interface is, and the ability to build different boards and have things automatically categorized in different areas for different teams. We have multiple teams able to communicate with each other through Jira, and it makes the process of moving issues, bugs, or enhancements through the channel from CS to Engineering very seamless.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that there isn't a super easy way to track the path that a card or ticket is following. A clearer understanding of each step or projected workflow laid out on the page would be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication between teams, a workflow process for managing bugs, issues, or product enhancements among teams.
