Memsource is a great tool
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource has a great interface that makes translating easy. As a CAT Tool, it is especially rapid when we combine it with our company's internal AI tool. I enjoy the fact that Memsource offers training for people to become experts users.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have had to contact the Memsource tech guys a few times last year to obtain help with errors in the software. Thankfully, there are less problems now. But it can be a challenge for first-time users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Memsource can be a good choice compared to other CAT tools if you are starting a translation business and are not yet sure what CAT tool to use. This simplifies project management if you combine it with a time management tool like Plunet.
Very good experience translating with Memsource so far
What do you like best about the product?
The pre-translated segments are usually well translated already, saving me a lot of time. I find the user interface very friendly and easy to sue.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not spotted anything I dislike so far
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It saves me a lot of time when translating texts from the tourism industry
Easy, basic tool.
What do you like best about the product?
Easily accessible from anywhere, intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tool is too limited, many features that I am used to from Studio are not available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not sure
Handy tool for managing smaller translation projects.
What do you like best about the product?
Simple for linguists, license distribution is easy and user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not really convenient for managing large and complex localization projects, tons of clicking instead of mass actions, Hungarian alternative is miles ahead in this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We mostly use it as an MT running environment.
Memsource Academic Edition: a great opportunity for aspiring professional translators
What do you like best about the product?
I'm on a board of directors of a student-run non-profit translation agency from Laval University in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The agency is called Langulaire and all employees are full-time students completing a BA or a MA in translation. Thanks to Memsource Academic Edition – which is provided completely free – our students have the opportunity to use Memsource and get real hands-on experience on a CAT tool they are likely to work when they start their career.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is not specific to Langulaire, it's just, according to me, a major shortcoming in Memsource. This issue is not having a true real-time progress bar for both linguists and project managers. There is no way for linguists to quickly and easily visualize and know where they are in their project, and no way for project managers to track linguists progression. Also being from Canada, it's a big inconveniance for us that Memsource doesn't support the spellchecker Antidote, especially as it is supported in Trados and memoQ.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For us, it's really about giving the students a great opportunity to learn their craft with the tools that they are going to be using in their career and for them to grasp how technology should be used to leverage translation.
Good integrations, useful for updating live copy, devs like it - but not a great translation tool.
What do you like best about the product?
I like how every key is easily traceable and can be updated and pushed live without needing to update anything on the development side. Other tools might need cumbersome exports/imports or similar.
What do you dislike about the product?
Phrase is not able to pull leverage properly, so translators charge for the full word count. Concordance search is really slow. Licenses are not floating so if you have multiple translators doing small copy, you would need to acquire as many licenses as languages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to propagate translations where we need them quickly, once the integration is set up this is seamless.
A TMS with pros and cons
What do you like best about the product?
Reliable, fast, easy to use, great support team.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some limitations in custom file formats, such as only one XML filter per template when you may deal with dozens of custom XML formats in the same project. But that can be worked around with standard formats such as XLIFF.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Great MT support with Memsource Translate. Good workflow automation. Good vision on continuous localization.
One of my most favourite CAT tools. User-friendly, easy to navigate; simple, yet comprehensive
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly, comfortable, straightforward, comprehensive in regard to its role as a CAT tool, and has a simple layout. Best for starting-out translators who are trying to find their way around with CAT tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
There have been serious issues with a RTL language like Arabic, in the past, but now it seems they have fixed them.
The TB (Term Base) function works a bit weirdly in Memsource; if part of the word matches a saved term, it suggests that term, which makes the process inconvenient when it's time for the QA. For example, if the name "Mark" is a saved term (as in a person's name), and a given segment includes the word "marketing" (as in business), Memsource would suggest the saved transliteration of the name "Mark" for that segment.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Memsource makes translation easy. Just like any CAT tool, I can use its features (like segmenting the source text and using Translation Memories) to make translation more convenient for me, but what's special about Memsource is its simple and comfortable layout. Memsource is also used by many agencies, and being familiar with it qualifies me to work with them.
The easiest CAT-tool on the market
What do you like best about the product?
As a translation and localization manager, I highly appreciate the optics of Memsource. It is still a tool so the design is relatively uncomplicated, but for me, it still stands out compared to other CAT tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd love to have the possibility to adjust the source files for all languages with one click, without the need to cancel and reupload the task everytime I find a mistake in source afterwards.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automatic e-mail notifications about the status change of single jobs helps me keep an overview of my tasks, especially shortly before deadlines, when I know what languages are missing.
Great webinar
What do you like best about the product?
How clearly everything was explained in the webinar.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe the fact that it was way too basic, but since it was an introduction, I think it was good enough.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
memsource will be my main working tool from now on, so it will solve a lot of future problems and will have a huge benefit on my daily workload.
