A great cloud-based CAT and PM solution for students and professionals alike
What do you like best about the product?
In the classroom environment, Memsource provides a seamless way for our students to interact with one another, set up and manage translation projects, and complete translation and other tasks as part of a realistic project workflow. It's easy to learn, easy to use, and – importantly for our students – is widely used across the translation industry, and so provides excellent experience to prepare them for the real world of translation.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very little indeed! There are one or two minor issues (e.g. difficulties in producing track-change versions of revised documents) and some minor quirks that can appear from time to time, but these sorts of problems occur in any CAT tool. In truth, they appear far less in Memsource than many other CAT tools I've taught and used professionally.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
During the pandemic, when our academic teaching switched online, Memsource offered an ideal solution for students to work on translation projects from their web browsers, without complex installation or compatibility issues. It offers excellent opportunities for collaborative learning, and – because of its ease of use – even better opportunities for independent learning by students.

I like the versatility of the solution as the customization options.
What do you dislike about the product?
UX could improve. Sometimes it is hard to find the options to change in order to customize projects and jobs.

Solves the need to manage different types of files with several different vendors in many languages

Missing some basics features like updating current Translation memory with old translations and some files missing formatting after generating target version

What do you like best about the product?
Memsource provides a good overview of projects at a high-level: for example, it has comprehensive reports and project metadata definitions. Project Managers can quickly review their projects on the home page to see the % complete.
Others:
- The filtering function in Workbench is very good.
- It is easy to generate project templates
- The job dashboard (when working properly) is an intuitive and helpful overview of the status of multilingual projects.

What do you dislike about the product?
- Linguists find it confusing to use the UI to identify the status of a file, especially when a file is to assigned by default to multiple providers.
- Files cannot be displayed in hierarchical/tree structure.
- Files cannot be sorted by size or % complete.
- Slow performance for large projects.

Memsource is especially helpful for tracking numerous small projects. It is not so good at tracking large projects.

Great for tackling translations in multiple languages
What do you like best about the product?
It was easy to create projects, assign jobs, and work with multiple translators. Customer service was also very friendly and effective!
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform had some delays which slowed down our translations.

Reliable and functionally rich cloud CAT system
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource has broader functionality than most other cloud CAT systems. Customer support is great, downtimes relatively rare. It is a robust and time-proven system supporting a lot of file formats and workflows (both more traditional and localization-oriented ones). Its desktop editor is another useful addition that most other cloud systems lack. Memsource allows to use project- and customer-based templates, supports custom machine translation engines and, on the whole, is above average in most of the important dimensions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Memsource has become very corporate-oriented and lost flexibility in terms of its pricing model. Adding more linguists or managers for ad-hoc projects now requires upgrade to a higher plan, with a long commitment period. The price is also quite steep, and many connectors and plugins are only available at more expensive plans. Not to say there's anything unique about it; this is the direction the industry is going to. However, it stands in contrast with Memsource's previous politics, now reverted.
On the functionality front, Memsource, advanced as it is for a cloud CAT system, is still far behind the leading desktop offerings (like Trados or MemoQ). The flexibility of settings is limited, from the implementation of regular expressions to QA profiles and workflows.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Like other cloud CAT tools, Memsource helps bypass the problem of having specific (and often quite expensive) software installed on the computers of all project participants. You only need an Internet connection and a browser to start working. The synchronization between participants of larger projects is also much easier than when using desktop translation tools. Cloud CAT systems are indispensable for modern translation companies, and Memsource is one of the best in this class.
Nice user-interface and powerful Web-API integration
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource has a nice Web user interface, that allows to operate efficiently for different roles of the organisation. Templates allow a huge configurability. It also has a powerful Web API integration
What do you dislike about the product?
The Web API is not super clear when it comes to the terminology between jobs and job-parts, which is not fully consistent among different parts (web UI, webhooks, terms used in the Web-API calls)

We are using Memsource to translate our contents, through a software automation that has been built thanks to the Web-API integration capabilities.

What do you like best about the product?
Memsource is an exciting, easy-to-learn CAT tool. I'd honestly propose it to any translator -experience or not- for both their demanding and easy translation tasks.

Memsource is really the tool I am using, and I have not found any drawbacks so far.

Memsource is a CAT tool that helps translators do their job easily and smoothly. It can make them more productive.
User friendly, light, yet complete tool for translators
What do you like best about the product?
You can use its online version, so you don't need to download anything that takes up space on your equipment.

No downsides as far as I know. It's very comprehensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It never crashes, you can use the online version anywhere, and its QA tool is excellent. It increases productivity, no doubt.
A pleasure to work with Memsource as a Project Manager!
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource is a very comfortable, intuitive and easy-to-use CAT tool, I use it as a Project Manager and proofreader. It's very organised, the interface is very clear, it lets you keep control of all your projects and translations. It's very easy to upload all types of files, including more complicated formats such as txt variants (YAML, XFLIFF, PO, etc.) or even InDesign documents. It's easy to personalise and to adapt to the translation's needs. The best thing about it I think is that it's very intuitive for new users, both translators and project managers. It has guides that explain its use in a very concise manner and also an active support team that helps resolve all types of issues. It has three phases, not only Translation and Revision, but also Client's Revision, which has been very useful for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
Memsource can be slow when loading projects. When a project has many translations, it takes a while to get to the most recent one, because it appears on the bottom of the last page. The online version is slower than the desktop version and sometimes gets stuck for a few seconds. I think the interface could be organised in a more colourful way. For example, sometimes it's easy to misread if you are in the Translation phase or Revision phase, maybe a colour for each phase would help. Sometimes, while revising, suddenly it jumps back to segments way back and you have to scroll down to find where you were.
The biggest problem is when you reach the maximum active user amount and it randomly deactivates users that have assigned jobs. This was once a big issue because it made us miss the deadline with a client.

Memsource is slowly improving its interface, the pretranslation and translation memory bases, it reads many more formats than it used to before and processes them better.
