Missing some features, but works well once configured and great support

  • June 29, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Census works well once you've configured a sync and doesn't require a lot of supervision post-sync establishment. Account support is also great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some minor features that are missing that would be nice to have, but to be expected with a growing company and product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Census allows us to easily extract data from our warehouse and sync to other external systems without the need for p2p integrations.

Easy to use once all set up!

What do you like best about the product?
The two things that separate Census from the rest are the testers and the team! We've used both to accelerate our onboarding onto Census. Whenever we run into a snag, we start by debugging using the tester. If we're unable to come to a solution with the tester, the Census team usually jumps in and provides great support to bring us home.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial setup was quite difficult to get squared away. This could have been a product of my team being new to the space & some internal restrictions. Once we got the testers green, it was fairly smooth sailing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automation of CRM data from our data warehouse to SFMC

The product has been very good and the people have been very good to work with.

What do you like best about the product?
The product is very simple to implement and was very intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be nice to send data to and from multiple sources. For example, if you could send data from Netsuite into Anaplan that would be great. Another example would be instead of just Google Sheets to Anaplan, there was a way to send data back from Anaplan to Google Sheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping us get data that was previously in a silo out to a source that's now much more scalable and more insightful.

Decent reverse ETL tool

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For the most part, Census works well and is easy to use. It does what it says on the tin with little struggle. The Census team also seems to be continuously upgrading their product, and already some complaints I previously would have had have been addressed.
What do you dislike about the product?
- can be difficult to debug errors
- unable to see past versions of queries
- testing a new sync or a sync change is very limited
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Census allows us to get all of our customer data into Salesforce quickly and easily.

A very valuable, resilient, and flexible Reverse ETL Tool

  • June 24, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Census supports more integration destinations than I've seen in the market, and their team is always open to feedback on connector improvements and additions to their suite.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing structure has been difficult to navigate at times. Depending on the destination, its addition can have a very large impact to cost (ex. Netsuite, SalesForce).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Census to push customer data down to a variety of tools from our enterprise data warehouse. This includes tools such as SalesForce Marketing Cloud, and Zendesk. Additionally, upon signing with Census, they partnered with us to develop a Pendo connector, which we still use today.

The user experience is great

What do you like best about the product?
The easy usage of Census and the reliability are the key factors.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not really a critique, but the sync duration is rather long. But this is probably due to the large amount of data
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Synching data from one source to an external source.

An indispensable tool for BizOps and Go-to-market teams

  • June 01, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Census puts BizOps and GTM teams in the driver's seat when it comes to syncing data across different systems. Prior to Census, we were dependent upon Data/Engineering to send product data like user engagement and paywall status to our CRMs, and it could take days to weeks based on the capacity of those teams. Now, we can sync that data in mere minutes without any code required. It's a game-changer! Our GTM teams have become so much more data-driven as a result.

What I like best about Census is the responsive and helpful customer support team. During our time working with Census, we've pinged them for everything from fixing broken syncs to configuring new models. They are extremely knowledgeable about the tool and are even willing to go deep into our data with us to problem-solve analytical problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Historically, the thing that has bothered me most about Census was the lack of robust audit logs / data transparency. Sometimes we would set up a sync and certain records would fail, but we wouldn't fully understand why and the error codes were not incredibly enlightening. It was also impossible to get a full view (every row) of the model that you created, so you had to have a certain amount of trust that the model was configured correctly based on just the first 25 rows in the preview. However, Census has addressed this in their latest Observability features and we are excited to have more transparency into our data, what is being synced and where, and why it sometimes fails.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Census is helping us with a few problems:
- Quickly and easily sending data from our product/customer databases into end-user tools like CRM
- Sending alerts into Slack when certain events happen

This is benefiting us by making us a more responsive and data-driven organization

Reverse ETL tool that shows real debugging information

  • June 01, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The tool is easy to use. and helps me a lot when I'm looking for ETL mistakes.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can figure out how I can deploy using tools like Terraform or Ansible. All the ETL' were uploaded via the web interface
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Import data into the data warehouse with confidence. And also help me to debug the data and get alerts when the jobs are not running

Functional tool and great support, but mediocre docs

What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran is easily one of the most robust ETL platforms I've seen and I was tasked with vetting quite a few of them when looking for extraction solutions. They offer a wide variety of data sources and destinations, covering a broader range of integrations that are relevant to our business than many competitors. They are also one of the few providers I've seen that have a decently functional web interface with comparable API capabilities. We use Powered by Fivetran, which enables us to extract data on behalf of clients without storing credentials or creating apps on our end, which is not a use case many providers support. The overall user and developer experiences for authorization via Fivetran are also fairly seamless.

One of the best parts of Fivetran is their support system. My perspective may be biased since my company is on a plan with priority support, but my team has submitted quite a few support tickets and our experience with Fivetran has consistently been far better than our experience with other third-party providers (and we pay for premium support for most partners who offer it). With other partners, we typically run into issues where the first response to a ticket is unhelpful, as lower-level support folks tend to not have the answers we need (or sometimes will provide us with incorrect answers) and we usually have to wait for a ticket to be escalated at least once or twice before we have any resolution. However, most of our Fivetran inquiries and issues have been resolved within 1 or 2 responses, and the level of detail provided is top-notch!
What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran's documentation is organized in a more intuitive way than that of most software companies, but like many others, the documentation falls out of date quickly and contradicts itself in many locations. Documentation maintenance is difficult, especially when there is so much of it to manage, but we've had several issues where key details are either missing or incorrect (e.g. incorrect connector configs in their API docs, missing data sources on their list of priority-first syncs). The caveat to this is that their support system is great, so we've never had trouble receiving timely responses when we reach out about the discrepancies, but it would be nice to not have to reach out for such trivial questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company aggregates data from a broad range of data sources and the parts of the integration process that continually proves to be the hardest are authentication and extraction. We don't use Fivetran for transformation, but Powered by Fivetran has allowed us to integrate quickly by eliminating the need to develop apps, build auth flows, and automate API calls.

Solid time saving product

  • May 19, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like variable pricing as it allows me to reduce or increase sync times based on budget and program needs
What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran is transparent when things break. Things break a lot. They're repaired promptly but it's an annoyance sometimes
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I centralize and standardize my data without writing code. It saves me dev time and hours
