Data Engineering with Fivetran
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran helped my data engineering team streamline processes and save valuable time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like better documentation. Would recommend video instructions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My organization is low on data engineering resources. Fivetran has helped us get more done with the people we have.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the amount of out of the box connectors that are available to use straight away which comes with step by step instructions on how to easily setup. The support which is available when you need assistance is excellent as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The enhancement requests process could be a bit better. It is difficult to see where each of the request are at and whether there is any realistic chance of them getting onto the product roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a tool which was easy to use and required minimal maintenance and that is exactly what we are getting. We are able to setup data pipelines with ease and quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you know what data you are going to consume and plan to consume to ensure you can get an accurate estimate.

What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran is intuitive, consistent, and efficient in satisifying our ETL needs. We're able to depend on Fivetran to connect to a majority of our platforms and deliver on our ETL needs in a timely manner.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still lacking in availability of some connectors/destinations. While there's a wide variety of connectors available, we would still like to see others made available (Thinking Verizon Media/Yahoo Advertising as a main one, as well as other major display networks advertisers). Another huge benefit that we could leverage would the be the addition of an Amazon s3 desination (we're currently using the Amazon Redshift destination).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the major ones for us is the email and SFTP connector functionalities. We work with a lot of partners that deliver .csv files via email/SFTP and previously had a lot of custom, in-house processes built to ingest this data. Moving these processes to Fivetran has been huge for us in simplifying our internal codebase and processes.

we cannot use this tool for IBMI data to replicate.

I am transferring the data from different sources into the destination. very easy process and user friendly tool.

Price is hard to predict and could be quite expensive compared with building tools in-house

Save time on importing data from HubSpot and Quickbooks
A pretty good extraction product

No-code extraction makes it easy for less technical data / operating teams to pull the data from various sources

Longer-than-ideal time to get new connectors; for those, customers need to rely on internal (data) engineering teams
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting data from various sources without internal engineering resources. Engineers can focus on high-value projects, analysts can analyze the data without waiting for days/weeks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's the industry standard go-to product in the market, but if you do prefer other alternatives, there are Airbyte and Maltano.
Powerful and easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
Connections are easy to set up, data models and schemas are clear and nice to work with. Monitoring is also made easy. Replications are fast. So overall, very functionnal. We had a nice support experience during our pre-sale POC.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is high. It's not ideal to have to wonder about how adding a new connector of some schemas/tables can affect the cost dramatically the cost. Also, some connectors are missing. But so far we made it work alright.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Replicate data from different sources we have (saas tools we're using, databases etc.), and load them to our data warehouse from which we use dbt to transform them before visualization.
We were able to quickly create a data lake with little effort

Integration with many modern and contemporary analytical databases.

Tiers of packages with some features, like logging, missing from the basic tier.

Reasonably quickly but good communication.

Ensure that Fivetran offers all the integrations you need by using the free trial!

The number of connectors, visibility into the ingestion process, ease of setup, ease of use

Database connectors can be expensive, and streaming ingestion is limited
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We introduced Fivetran to ingest data from third parties, and it was the perfect option. The total cost of ownership is much lower than with a custom solution, and everything worked as expected out of the box!
