most reliable, low-lift solution to data ingestion
What do you like best about the product?
The product is clean and straightforward to use. Other folks at my company had never used Fivetran before and were able to get their connectors up and running within 15 mins. We are a very small data team relative to the size of our company and having a product that we can essentially set up and not give another thought to has been a gamechanger. Fivetran simply does what I need it to do and my CSM has been super-responsive and helpful whenever I need some additional support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran has a heftier price tag than the other products in the ELT space. I would like the integrations with dbt to be stronger and more robust (I think this is in the roadmap). I think it would be useful to have more detailed dbt run logs, for dbt run pricing model to better match how users actually use dbt (don't penalize for using high # of modular dbt models). I would find it immensely helpful if Fivetran produced more content on getting everything we need out of the Fivetran-dbt integration: how-to blogs or follow-along videos for leveraging Fivetran's pre-built models, implementing good CI/CD, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a small data team, we need to be able to surface the high-level KPIs and metrics that company leaders need - and we need to do it in a way that's both scalable and flexible. Fivetran frees up our time to build data products with our data, and not have to sink any time in to getting our data to some place we can work with it.
FiveTran gets data from top data sources with ease

What do you dislike about the product?
More data sources
Easier to understand pricing (which they are working on!)

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting data into BigQuery with ease. All the data just shows up and is ready to use
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that the sources you need are supported. it may take a while for new sources to be built
Awesome experience!!
What do you like best about the product?
I love the ability to set up pipelines with very little effort. Also, the customer service is fantastic! Any issues or questions we have had have always been resolved within a few hours.
What do you dislike about the product?
Right now the DBT support is in beta, but very much looking forward to it being in full swing!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are building out all of our data pipelines with fivetran.
It is way more time and cost effective to use fivetran vs building and maintaining them ourselves.

Ultimate data pipeline and transformation tool. Cost effective for prototyping and small projects.
What do you like best about the product?
We love the ease of setup and connecting to data sources. Likewise, the near-native integration with DBT makes scheduling and running transformations a breeze. Pricing was a little difficult to parse initially, one of our sales reps was confused about it, but it is very fair when all is said and done. The integration with BigQuery was SUPER easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Documentation on how to connect to sources and destinations could use some improvement. It's occasionally circular and hard to follow. These are admittedly deeper waters though; roles and permissions between systems are wildly different.
Better controls for bulk adding or removing fields from import schemas would be nice. We crawled through many hundreds of fields to get ours set up, pulling data from SalesForce for example.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Fivetran to:
1. Connect to multiple data sources and manage imports, retries, logging, etc.
2. Transform data into a standard format using DBT.
3. Send data to BigQuery for analysis and later consumption by further third parties.
Compared to our original, hand-coded data pipelines, Fivetran has been a quantum leap in scalability and standardization.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Fivetran is easiest when you can get direct access to your data source, ie direct database access, for example. If you have to pull data through APIs, and it's not one of the big services that are natively supported by Fivetran, then the integration is more tricky. Still a great option though.
Seamless Ease & Excellent Visibility
What do you like best about the product?
I've had a lot of bad experiences with "out of the box" data connectors so I began my relationship with Fivetran with a lot of skepticism. I have been blown away by every step of the process. The sales process was easy and accomodating, pricing was upfront and transparent. Setting up the connections to my data was so easy that I couldn't believe I'd done it correctly the first time. The visibility into the load, performance, and errors on my various connectors is also excellent and helps me stay on top of any issues that do crop up. I'm only scratching the surface of what FiveTran has to offer but so far I've been very pleased.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I haven't had a single complaint.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As with most, our use with Fivetran is to move the data from the various tools we use into our data warehouse. In our case, we are taking data from things like Stripe, Hubspot, Facebook Ads, and on and on, and sending all of those various sources into Google BigQuery.
FiveTran Gets it Done
What do you like best about the product?
FiveTran isn't perfect, and we had some concerns about their pricing model -- but DAMN does it work really well. It took us about 30 minutes to configure everything and have data replicating from source system to data warehouse. Well worth the cost.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing model gives me some pause, and I don't like that there is an upcharge to version data (e.g. store different permutations of rows as data changes... but again it's worth it).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Replicating data from source systems to data warehouse. This helps our small team focus on modeling data and driving business value rather than on extracting and loading data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure to re-evaluate and investigate other vendors (e.g. AirByte), but if you need to move quickly and can afford it, Fivetran is best in class.
Lume Fivetran Experience
What do you like best about the product?
The ease with which connections can be established and the manner in which FiveTran handles delta loads
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes we have challenges with the default API connector and the MySQL connectors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data loading from multiple data sources. Scheduling of data extractions on a daily basis. Love the product.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Leverage built-in connectors with FiveTran as much as possible. Have a DBA ready when working on connections as there are often little nuances that they are needed for.
Fivetran has helped me in two different SMB startups now jumpstart our ETL/ELT pipelines.
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of integrating a new data source with Fivetran with limited data engineering resources helps tremendously. We use a stack of Snowflake and Domo to collate and present findings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes connectors are not fully explained ahead of time to show what will be received from integrating them. The excellent news is Fivetran allows you to test new connectors for free.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralizing all our vendors and in-house data sources. Enabling reporting and data democratization.
Easy to use and great support
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran was an easy choice because it connects with all of our marketing platforms and database solutions we use across several different clients. Setting up new connections is effortless.
What do you dislike about the product?
Compared to other tools we have used for marketing data ETL, Fivetran doesn't offer as much in out-of-the-box aggregations. It's really just a straightforward method of getting raw data from sources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are now able to implement more robust analysis on marketing data and compare metrics between different sources easily. Having all of our data stored in a centralized BigQuery repository has been helpful in moving beyond the limitations of Supermetrics connectors in Data Studio.
VP of Engineering
What do you like best about the product?
The API is easy to use and integrate. I was able to in less than a day create an application that embeds FiveTran into our product. The APIs in postman was straightforward and made sense.
What do you dislike about the product?
There seem to be a lot of options in the API, but it is not documented very well. It would be great to have more detailed information about the options available and all the combinations for connection cards. It would be great if the connections cards walked the customer through the schema and column setup after the connections were made.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We allow customers to send us real-time data to monitor and track their ESG activity. We are now able to give customers more accurate information to help them make decisions that impact the environment in a positive way.
