Notion is my personal OS

  • May 06, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I am using Notion as my personal OS. My company has other SaaS for documentation but Notion beats them on every level. From ergonomics, to layout, to dynamic data capabilities, to community templates and overall speed of the tool... There's nothing were Notion doesn't come first.
They recently added generative AI capabilities (seems to be powered by Chat GPT 4) which makes it even more powerful. I now added new usecases to Notion. It translates documents, fix typos, rewrite my my notes in actionable items I can share after meetings.
Notion has become my superpower.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I dislike about Notion at this point is that it's not a tool used by my org as a whole.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Notion and it's AI capabilities to collect notes, rewrite them and shemale them with colleagues.
I also use it to write entire emails for me from a few prompt making me more efficient.

A human way to work and live digitally.

What do you like best about the product?
Notions agility allows for a very humanizing digital experience. It can be as simple as I'd like it to be and when I want to be super creative and test some limits - Notion is capable.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a fairly steep learning curve and difficult to get others excited about adopting a new tool. Their documentation leans towards those who learn more from reading than from watching.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In preparation for an upcoming Lunch & Learn the AI Writing Assistant was super clutch in helping me take my outline form start to finish. The ability to lengthen my own writing and then simplify, give my voice different tones to cherry pick the most comprehensive syntax, and when I'm just simply stuck I can brainstorm about how to keep the ball rolling and not get stuck. I would hardly be able to keep up with my project management work and write this series of talks were it not for the AI writing assistant.

Notion AI review

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful thing about motion is the ability to use the AI function to regenerate statements to make them more suitable. This also serves as something extremely helpful. Compared to others, it is on the lower price so I would recommend.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the fact that there are not as many options in terms of AI. Other than that everything works well. I find it suited my needs but the overall format is slightly busy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Writing emails. Notion helps by improving my writing and making it more professional. This benefits my professionalism at work in the work atmosphere and to my colleagues.

Great Tool, Good AI Integration, Looking Forward To Improvements

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the flexibility. I use it to capture ideas. I use to keep work with multiple types of information (videos, audio files, images and text all in the same place). But, I also use it to manage processes (producing a class, recording the class, publishing the class to various places).
What do you dislike about the product?
This is probably not a problem specific to Notion, but probably something caused by how I use it, but sometimes Notion is a little slow because I try to do too much with a single page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Notion for a variety of things... everything from taking notes and capturing ideas to managing complex projects to creating parts of the project's content. I also use it as a knowledge base to keep ideas organized and at hand.

Notion is my favorite planning and writing tool!

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy using notion to organize many aspects of my life and to assist my writings in work or in daily life.
At first Notion is only a place for me to write notes or a to-do list like any other productivity apps. However, the more I explore the more I found out and loved about the customizability of Notion. With the help of databases, I am able to create plans for my work or life in many different ways. Either a calendar view or a board view, will help me a lot on prioritizing tasks and allocate them onto appropriate time slot.
Highly recommend for people looking for good planning tools, as well as writing notes.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside of using Notion is that everything has to be online for me to load pages. I understand why this is the case, as Notion has operating on AWS, and your data across platforms are synced. However, even with stable internet connection, it tooks a bit of loading to see your content. Even if it's a simple todo list. It isn't a very pleasant experience when the internet is unstable. And I would switch to other handy notebooks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem that most task management apps are not customizable enough. With Notion I am able to build many of my own ideas and I am able to tweak the design according to my need

Notion has been a game-changer for my team, and AI takes it over the top.

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've loved how easy it is to use and to integrate other apps, and it has been a wonderful for us to share documentation cross-functionally. I've used the AI function to help guide some of my initial documentation, and that's been great too.
What do you dislike about the product?
I often find myself wishing it was easier to back-indent, but that's about it! I don't find much I don't like, nor do I wish for other improvements. Keep up the good work, Notion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem it's solving for my team is to organize and share key documentation that is not only relevant for my team, but also for others. For example, we use it to share product requirements documents.

I'm a fan of notion, but want to share some gripes

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The custom blocks are extremely helpful. I love that I can add an inline database to pages and keep track of items with various types of fields.
What do you dislike about the product?
I want more support for visual content. The Miro integration is severely lacking. The fact that I have to click a miro board in order for it to load is a barrier to using it effectively. The charts, mindmaps, and other visual content integrations should be much richer. Is it possible to prefetch these resources and/or cache them so it's ready to view and edit when I open the page?

For the databases, I don't like that there is a single column that is not deletable. This can be done better, and often times I don't want to have the default column visable.

Also, the AI feature is limited but has potential. I will expand on that in the specific section.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has a certain i-don't-know-what, but is far better than alternatives. I think it comes down to the much richer types of content blocks on offer. I don't like how the layout is limited to single-column though; I wish there were alternative layouts or something more flexible.

AI Features

The AI feature is not headed in the right direction. I purchased it almost as soon as it was available. I like the user experience, as in being able to query the assistant about selected text or about the document in general. I think it should be clearer that you can use it to generate notion blocks, instead of just plain text. I also don't like how it discourages users from asking it off-topic questions, that really hurts my workflow. I don't use it as a writing assistant, but more as a research assistant to fact-check my writing, look up similar content, and generate notes when I'm having trouble learning something. Also, there are many times when mathematical expressions are generated. It would be amazing if these were automatically inserted as KaTeX-formatted expressions.

The assistant REALLY shouldn't be refusing to answer questions when it doesn't see a connection to the document. This limits the utility and increases friction for an otherwise useful feature. I don't want to always force it to generate useful content for me by saying "do it anyway."

If you want to reach out to me for a customer development interview, I would love to try and schedule something. I've been a champion to friends and coworkers for notion for almost 4 years now and would love to help make it a better product for others.

Other Problems

It's really annoying that my place in the document isn't persisted, especially on mobile. I have long lists of book notes, and will have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page each time I open it in order to continue adding notes. This is a really annoying anti-feature and would love for it to be fixed.

Notion has been an amazing help!

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Notion has helped me so much in my business by helping me create content for social media, blog posts and so much more. When I'm stuck or need ideas Notion always come through for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I think could be improved is Notion being able to understand the prompts better. I understand that AI is still a new thing. That being said, there is a bit of a learning curve for the prompts. One other thing that I think would be cool is if Notion could learn how you speak. Like how you normally do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Notion has helped me be able to create a large amount of social media content in such a short amount of time. That is a huge time saver for me, while also helping brainstorm idas when I am stuck. Like I'll have an idea of what I want to talk about but Notion just helps fill in the gaps that sometimes we all need.
