Boosts student engagement and simplifies course management with creative tools

  • June 24, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My use case for CYPHER Learning is multi-purpose; I use it as a flipped classroom learning model within the classroom, where I get to have my students work synchronously, but also asynchronously on separate assignments. My students can work from home or in another space, so online and physically in the classroom.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has positively impacted my organization and my work because student engagement has skyrocketed in my classroom since I began using CYPHER Learning. I started using CYPHER Learning before Google Classroom even existed, and I continued to use CYPHER Learning even after Google Classroom was launched. The benefits it offers are unmatched and unparalleled compared to anything else available. Student engagement and participation have been exceptional.

CYPHER Learning saves a significant amount of time and resources. It cuts down on the amount of time I spend creating new content once my courses are set up. With AI-driven course creation, even more time can be saved. I have built up this course content over the years, and CYPHER Learning has helped me adjust, readjust and add new content as my curriculum changes.

When it comes to CYPHER Learning's ability to align skills to course materials, the system has a mastery function and various features that allow me to tailor specific assignments to match the students' competencies. One of these features is the debate function, which enables students to answer debate questions and respond to their peers. This encourages student interactivity, creative thinking, and critical thinking, especially as I prompt students to question or challenge each other's responses respectfully. Additionally, I encourage students to include evidence in their replies. This means they not only express their own opinions but also incorporate outside material, enhancing interaction with their classmates. Overall, the entire environment I create within CYPHER Learning simplifies the process for students, allowing them to engage without needing too much external input. It is also effective for monitoring purposes. Once my students understand the expectations and how to navigate the system, everything tends to work smoothly. This approach allows them autonomy over their learning journey, making the experience enjoyable. I prefer to be a guide on the side; I prepare all the material in advance so that I can circulate the room. If I need to spend extra time with one group, I can do so knowing that the other students are capable of working independently without any issues. In summary, the curriculum aligns well with my teaching goals.

I have utilized several Google functions with CYPHER Learning, which helps with ease of getting into the system, including single sign-ons and creating assignments using Google Docs or slides, which I find to be really great. I spend about a week training my students on the ins and outs of CYPHER Learning, with the first day dedicated to immersing them in the system with assignments that match curriculum objectives.

What is most valuable?

The best features of CYPHER Learning that I enjoy most include the course management system, gamification, blogging, and debating tools that cater to increasing creative thinking, creative writing, and problem-solving. Gamification and these specific tools make it easy for my students to navigate and manage numerous courses within one class while keeping up with my standards for my curriculum, where my students can see their mastery and performance on assignments. I find it extremely beneficial because our curriculum in schools is data-driven. This allows me to easily obtain data from the content-specific standards assigned to each assignment. I can assess what concepts I need to review and identify what the students have mastered. This transparency also enables the students to see their own progress.

What needs improvement?

One of the areas that I believe CYPHER Learning could improve on is having a saving function as you type in, much as some Google products. That would really help in my classroom because we do a lot of writing, and if that's not saved properly, students may have to redo their work. I would also love to see more integration with other third-party tools I tend to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using CYPHER Learning for over a decade, starting back in 2010, which makes it close to 15, going on 16 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate CYPHER Learning a 9.9 out of 10 for stability because I rarely have any issues with the system, which is why I have used it for so long. Before using CYPHER Learning, I tried other products that were unstable and did not meet my classroom needs.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For scalability, I would rate CYPHER Learning a nine out of ten because it is built to cater to a few to many users.

CYPHER Learning is basically student-driven; I have anywhere from 100 to over 100 users each year, and I sometimes teach multiple grades. I'm in the process of sharing more about CYPHER Learning with other teachers, hoping that number could increase.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the customer and technical support for CYPHER Learning a nine out of ten. They are pretty responsive to situations or issues within the system, and solutions are already being worked on by the time I look through issues other customers are facing. This reliability is really important for keeping the system running effectively in a classroom of close to 30 students.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The deployment of CYPHER Learning is extremely simple for me; I've had no issues setting up and getting students ready each school year. Basic maintenance such as archiving students has been a really simplified process.

In terms of the time it takes to train and onboard students, each year, I spend a week immersing my students in the system. Typically, on the first day, I introduce a scavenger hunt of sorts. This isn't just a worksheet where they write answers; instead, it's a hands-on experience. For instance, I give them step-by-step tasks to complete, allowing them to engage with the assignments right away. These tasks are aligned with our curriculum objectives, so they're effectively working on relevant material from day one. Throughout the week, I focus on solidifying their understanding and integration into the system. For students who are already familiar with platforms like Google Classroom or Canvas, I use this week to help them adapt. Fortunately, the system is visually appealing and user-friendly, which generally means that by the end of the first day, they are excited and ready to dive in. Each subsequent day builds on what they learned initially, helping them to improve gradually. As the week progresses, I introduce additional elements to prepare them for the work we will do for the rest of the year.

What was our ROI?

CYPHER Learning has helped me reduce my course creation time by about 70%. Once you're in the ecosystem and building, each year you tweak and fine-tune rather than starting from scratch, utilizing templates that I've created for specific courses while adapting them as needed to fit my curriculum direction.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for CYPHER Learning is on par with other solutions. I've been a single user of the system for a while and priced out several other options, and it's probably standard pricing if not maybe a little bit lower, around the range of other similar systems such as Moodle.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have compared CYPHER Learning to other solutions on the market. CYPHER Learning really stands out. My students love the interfacing. It provides a unique, different experience that makes it more engaging and encourages interaction, unlike standard Google Classroom or even Canvas-based learning management systems. It just feels more welcoming and user-friendly from the initial use for my students.

What other advice do I have?

I absolutely recommend CYPHER Learning to other users. My students really connect with it because it doesn’t resemble anything else available. The ease of use, the autonomy it provides my students, and the flexibility it offers teachers to create their own ecosystem within CYPHER Learning—all of this aligns with the curriculum in a unique way. So, I absolutely value autonomy, flexibility, and ease of use.

I would rate it a ten out of ten because it has completely transformed my teaching approach in the classroom. It has given me the confidence to experiment and engage more actively in learning, rather than having my students struggle with figuring out how to use it. From day one, they catch on quickly! Instead of spending time learning the system, my students use that time to engage more deeply with the content, resulting in unmatched levels of student engagement with CYPHER Learning.

I truly love it. It creates a beautiful and wonderful learning experience for everyone involved. I feel like it’s an extension of myself because I’ve invested so much into the system. When my students interact with it, it feels like they are interacting with me. One of my classroom themes is "Adventure Time," and my system in CYPHER is called "Mimsie 101," making it "Adventures with Mimsie 101." I absolutely love CYPHER Learning. The confidence it gives me is evident to my students, who then become equally engaged and enthusiastic about the system. I can’t say enough good things about it!

My overall rating for CYPHER Learning is a ten out of ten.

Offers flexible learning and saves printing costs; it has been excellent for us

  • January 08, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use it as a learning management system (LMS). I create our e-classes in the LMS and also upload them. All our classes and students are in CYPHER Learning.

How has it helped my organization?

We are able to offer flexible learning. After the pandemic, classes are 50% on-site and 50% online, eliminating the need for more classrooms. We did not go fully face-to-face after the pandemic. We went to blended learning, so we do not have to create more classrooms.

It has saved us a lot of printing costs and effort because we do not have to print the syllabus anymore. Our syllabus is on average 12 pages long and if a student takes seven courses, it will be around 84 pages. We have around 10,000 students. You can imagine the volume of paper that we had to print. We do not do that anymore. We were also printing handouts before. We do not print them as well.

With CYPHER Learning, we are able to offer fully online courses. We have a degree completion program for students who left school because of some reason and could not finish their degrees. They are now working and do not have time to come back to school and attend classes. With CYPHER Learning, we were able to reach out to them and offer them fully online classes. They do not have to come to school physically. They can follow their courses online, and they are able to finish their degrees. For us, that is a big plus because we are able to help our former students finish their degrees with CYPHER Learning.

For every course, in the syllabus, aside from the learning plan, we also have the learning outcomes for the skills. We align every lesson with the learning outcome. We are able to do every assessment and exam within the platform. We are able to align lessons, assessments, and learning outcomes and check if the learning outcomes have been achieved.

When it comes to AI, as a university, we created our AI policy just this year, and we are slowly rolling it out to the faculty members and students. For the teachers, we have subscribed to CYPHER Copilot. We have not yet rolled it out to all the faculty members. We have picked a few teachers to use it to create complete courses, especially for the subjects that are offered for the first time. We also offer creative courses that run for a few weeks, and we use Copilot for that. One thing I like about it is that we do not have to start from scratch. We can give it a syllabus to create the lessons. It was fairly accurate. We loved the outcomes, but it is not 100% there. After creating the course, we still have some work to do. However, before AI, it took us months to create a complete course, whereas now, it would not take that long because it has already created some of the things for us. We just need to add or remove a few things. It has done about 80% of the job and we have to do the remaining 20%.

We have integrated it with Microsoft 365. The integration is seamless and perfect. We can create things like webinars. Within the module itself, we can create a schedule for a meeting. We can also create one on the announcement or news page. We can create a meeting there, and everyone has access to it. The storage for Microsoft 365, in OneDrive, is also integrated there. It is very easy to access the files from OneDrive from the platform.

It has saved our course creation time by a lot. We can create a complete course in ten minutes. Previously, it took us months.

It has been excellent for us. I am the director of the Center for Innovative Learning Programs, and this is the office that manages CYPHER Learning. Before becoming the director, I was a Learning supervisor. To train our teachers, we have face-to-face learning and also self-paced training. We created these training courses in our platform, which we call Schoolbook. Other teachers have the option to do face-to-face or online training. Some prefer face-to-face training, while others prefer online training. With CYPHER Learning, we are able to provide that option. It is being utilized 100% by our faculty members. Everyone, our students and faculty members, uses this platform. It is not just for uploading our lessons or lesson contents or conducting assessments. It has also become a communication platform for everyone. If there are school announcements, we put them there. For example, announcements of no classes are shown on the platform. Also, if some offices want to tell the community about something, they give it to us and we announce it on the platform. It is not just for classes but also for communication and collaboration with the community.

What is most valuable?

The structure and organization of the modules are valuable. Previously, we printed our syllabus and modules and gave them to our students. We also had pen-and-paper quizzes. We do not do that anymore. It is all there in the LMS. It is very easy to access it, so accessibility is a very good feature. We can access it anytime, anywhere. Our students can easily access the lessons on the platform. We can also conduct online quizzes. There are 15 or 16 assessment types. We are not limited to just quizzes. We can also have essays. We can have debates, discussions, etc.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the CYPHER Learning mobile application because my students have given feedback that they are not using the mobile app as it takes time to open. I also use the app. For me, it is easier to use than using the browser, but some of the students do not use it because it takes a very long time to open. Most of our students are using smartphones. Some students do not have laptops, so if the mobile app is more responsive, it would be a great help for us.

The peer feedback feature is not user-friendly. Some of our faculty members were very happy when CYPHER gave the news that there is already a peer feedback feature because we were asking for it, but when they used it, they found it complicated and not user-friendly. They were disappointed with the peer feedback feature. When students submit their outputs, we want their classmates to give feedback as well, but that is not very easy to use. After I tried it, I also did not find it very friendly to use.

They have this assessment type where we can group our students. We create groups, and they can work and collaborate with the group. While grading the submissions of the groups, although we can see that the students are separated by groups, we still have to grade them one by one. We would like a way to grade the group as one. For example, if there are five members in a group, currently, we give each member a grade. It would be easier to be able to give the same grade to all the members of the group. The team assessment feature could be improved to allow grading the group as one.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2010. It was not yet CYPHER learning. It was EDU 2.0. It was the beginning of CYPHER Learning, and at the start, we were there with them.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not experienced any glitches. When teachers and students report a glitch with the platform, upon checking ourselves, we find that it is not really a glitch. It is usually the user's fault. If they say that the computation of the grades is not correct, when we check their grade configuration, it is a mistake on their end. Sometimes the user does not know how to use it. That is where the problem surfaces, but we are able to help them and correct whatever error they encounter. We can do it at our end in the university. If our office cannot handle it, we contact the CYPHER support forum.

I would rate it a ten out of ten for stability. We are happy with the platform.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable. I would rate it a ten out of ten for scalability.

In the beginning, it was not easy to convince people to use the online platform. Only 20% of our faculty members were really using it. Before the pandemic, we were already using the blended modality with 50% online and 50% on-site. When the pandemic struck, we were able to get everyone on board. We had no choice. The skeptics now see the value of using the platform.

When I started in 2010, there were just a few faculty members. For the training, it took one semester to get everyone on board. After the free version, when we started subscribing, we had to again upscale and retrain the faculty because we were able to use all the features in the platform. We now do training every semester every year because, for newly hired faculty, we have to train them every semester. For those who already know how to use the platform, if CYPHER has updates, we inform them of the new updates.

Now that we are in blended mode, we are also conducting online assessments. Now we are using Proctor360, which is a remote proctoring tool, and it is integrated with CYPHER Learning. When we were deciding on which proctoring tool to use, it was easy. Proctor360 was an easy choice because it was already integrated with CYPHER.

Last semester, we had more than 9,000 students, including graduate school. We manage the CYPHER platform, but we are not IT. We are professors from different fields. I am a philosophy professor. In our team, we have two members who are IT professors, but they are not IT. The rest are from the psychology department and physics department. None of us are in IT. For us, that is a good thing because we are able to encourage our faculty members. They do not have to be an IT person to be able to use the platform. It is user-friendly. We are all teachers, and this tool is very easy to use. It helps us in delivering our lessons.

How are customer service and support?

Their support channel is easy to use. When I ask a question, they answer in a few minutes, any time of the day. I would rate them a ten out of ten. It is the best.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have not tried other learning management systems. Personally, when I enroll in online classes, I see other schools using Canvas and Blackboard. I have seen them, but CYPHER Learning is still the best for me because I can customize it. Canvas is very simple, but it is not as beautiful as CYPHER Learning. We can be really creative with CYPHER Learning. When you create a module in CYPHER learning, you can customize the module cover. You can have the description, and if you have ten modules in the course, you can see all the different cover pages of the module related to the topic. In other LMSs, such as in Canvas, that does not seem possible.

Before CYPHER Learning, we also tried to have an in-house solution. My IT created an in-house platform like an LMS, but it had very limited features.

What was our ROI?

Return on investment is high, about 60% to 70%. During the pandemic, CYPHER Learning saved us. We were already using it before the pandemic. When the pandemic struck, everyone was forced to go online, but it was not a difficult time for us because we were already using it. When we transitioned to fully online, it was easy for us. We did not have to stop our services. We continued to offer our education. We continued to offer our services to our students, and we were able to survive the pandemic with the help of CYPHER. Other schools in the Philippines had to close because they did not have an online facility. They did not know what an LMS was. They did not have time to train their teachers, but for us, it was smooth sailing.

We even gave our time to train teachers in other schools because there were some schools that did not know how to use an LMS. So aside from training our own teachers, we went out of our way to help other schools. When they asked us which LMS to use and which one we were using, we told them CYPHER Learning. It is very easy. Because we were using CYPHER Learning before, we were able to help not only ourselves but also others. We are glad about that.

It is deployed in the cloud. We are subscribed to CYPHER, and they take care of the maintenance for us. It being on the cloud saves us a lot. Before CYPHER Learning, we tried to have an in-house solution. Our IT created an in-house platform like LMS, but it had very limited features. We were just able to upload content. In the long term, it would not have been good for us because it could get expensive. That is why we decided to subscribe to CYPHER Learning. We do not have to buy additional hardware or train additional IT for the maintenance, etc. We are able to save on the personnel, hardware, servers, etc. If we have problems with the platform, CYPHER support is very easy to contact.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is cheap for us. We started with CYPHER Learning, and then when our contract was finished, we needed to undergo a bidding process. We had to look at other LMSs as well and compare it with them. Its price convinced us to stay with CYPHER Learning. The cost is low, but the quality is excellent. The lower price compared to other LMSs makes it perfect for us.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend it to everyone looking for an LMS. We have done it before at the time of the pandemic when schools were asking which LMS to use and whether it was user-friendly and affordable. We told them that it is very user-friendly and very affordable. Even small schools can easily afford CYPHER Learning. We have no issues with its scalability. We even offer schools our help. Whenever they need some trainers, I even offer schools help by providing trainers for free.

Overall, I would rate CYPHER Learning a ten out of ten. For me, it is excellent.

Our users are much more invested in this solution compared to other platforms we used in the past

  • May 08, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use CHYPHER Learning to deliver all our apprenticeship programs. All of the apprentice learners are added to the platform and follow several courses. We also provide access to employers so they can monitor the learners' progress.

How has it helped my organization?

We find that learners are much more invested in CHYPHER Learning compared to other LMS platforms we used in the past. The people who use the platform to learn and do their assignments are the ones who benefit the most from the system. It enabled us to engage with learners more than the previous systems we used.

We do a little gamification, but the problem is that our learners start at different times throughout the year. We have rolling programs, but some gamification features aren't relevant if one person starts in October and another in February. The person who started earlier will be ahead on any leaderboards, which isn't helpful. Gamification doesn't affect our learners' progress much because we haven't used it as much as we'd like. The interface isn't too important because of the nature of our rolling programs.

We look at how we can extend what learners do based on their job roles. If they complete particular assignments well, we introduce other topics based on what they achieve.

I don't think it has reduced our training costs. We still primarily do face-to-face instruction. Also, our goal for CYPHER Learning isn't necessarily to save money. We use it to enhance our programs. However, it saved us money on printing materials.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is competency tracking. All apprentices follow particular programs where they have to demonstrate competencies, skills, knowledge, and behavior standards. The ability to track and measure their progress against the norm is functional. By aligning the work that our learners submit and the learning resources, we get an excellent picture of where they are in their progression.

We're judged on those people's ability to achieve those competencies. We must ensure they meet the standards because they will be independently assessed after finishing the program.

What needs improvement?

I've got one bespoke request with CYPHER Learning, but it's not an overall product improvement. I'd like a way to set deadlines for assignments to be submitted by learners' onboarding programs based on their enrollment dates. For example, if a learner starts in October, and we want the assignment submitted 30 days after that.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using CHYPHER Learning since October 2020.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

CYPHER Learning is a solid platform. I rarely have problems with it. We had a caching issue a few months back, but we've had no problems aside from that.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Adding more students to CYPHER Learning is simple. You just need to pay more money.

How are customer service and support?

I rate CYPHER Learning's support a ten out of ten. I've contacted them several times and always gotten satisfactory answers.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I built a custom solution a while ago. It was great, but keeping it updated was painful, and people constantly asked me questions about it. We also used Moodle and Lodash in the past.

I used CYPHER Learning in its previous form when it was called EDU 2.0. After that, I built my own system, but it was too much of a hassle. Finally, in 2020, I decided I would switch to another solution. I tested out Moodle, but it wasn't very good for competency-based learning, so I adopted CYPHER Learning.

How was the initial setup?

CYPHER Learning is a SaaS platform. We subscribe to it and add learners as needed. The setup is straightforward, but there are a few advanced features that you need to get your head around if you want to extend the way the platform works. I've done lots of work with webhooks and APIs to extend the platform and integrate our data systems. It's quite simple to log in and use the platform. There is no maintenance on our end.

What was our ROI?

We are funded by the government, so we're capped at what each program costs. Students who use CYPHER Learning give us positive feedback, and the improved experience helps increase the number of learners. Getting learners to engage with the platform is always a challenge. They go on there, do the work, and leave positive feedback. It's great.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We're considered a business, so we don't get education discounts. However, I am funded by the government the same way that a college or a school is funded. I don't have the kind of flexibility to pay these prices. It's a little bit more than I want to pay, but I'm okay with it.

What other advice do I have?

I rate CYPHER Learning a ten out of ten. Before implementing CYPHER Learning, make sure you need all of its features. A lot of it is modular, so you can pick what you want.

Gives me more autonomy and creativity to personalize my class, and competency features help me track progress

  • November 30, 2022
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I am a computer science teacher and I use it to help facilitate my class. I'm not a typical "sage on the stage" teacher, I'm more like a "guide on the side." I use CYPHER Learning to fully implement my curriculum for my students.

How has it helped my organization?

Automation helps save time when it comes to the assessment of assignments. I can set up some assignments so that the platform automatically grades students. I can spend more time developing content and not so much time grading. Taking the time to set it up properly helps with that automation, and the students get immediate feedback so they know exactly how well they've done. I can then look at the analytics, once they've done those assignments, and gauge who's doing well and who needs a little bit more help. It's very important and helpful.

I throw in a survey-type self-assessment for my students. I can go through each lesson and I can see how well they think they did versus how their actual grade matches up. I can identify students or classes to go back to and say, "Maybe we're going to take a little bit more time on this content." I can do that one-on-one or in a small group as well. It's essential in helping me to identify who needs help or who's ready for more advanced lessons or assignments.

CYPHER Learning is also very efficient when it comes to helping me understand how well my students understand concepts, by using the assessments, analytics, and feedback. My students can interact with me within the system to let me know if they have questions. I can engage with them as they're working and field questions or clear up anything that they may have an issue with.

Another benefit of the platform is classroom management. When my students know exactly what they need to be doing, it cuts down on the extra time that could lead to poor classroom management. It's all about them buying in at the beginning and getting my students to invest in the system. They know what they're supposed to be doing. CYPHER Learning has been very beneficial in that way.

An aspect that is also extremely important is the fact that teachers can track student progress on a competency basis through a mastery grid. As an organization, that's one of the things our administrators look for when they come into the room, the objectives and the competencies, and what teachers are doing to help students achieve competencies with their pedagogy in the classroom.

CYPHER Learning helps me to provide self-pacing for students in my class. Because the system enables me to add videos and resources such as PDFs, a lot of that content is me in the video, so they don't have to go to outside sources. I can take care of those students who are proficient by giving them those materials, and that allows them to move along at their own pace. And for those students who need extra time on things, I have that time to spend with them while others move ahead. It helps me to reach everybody.

The system also helps reduce administrative work because it offers analytics and spreadsheet downloads. If I need to see grades for students, I can see them all at once or pull grade reports for individual students. I can look at individual grades from the different classes that I've set up that cover different competencies. I can print all of that out and share it with parents. Everything is right at your fingertips.

There are cost savings because it's all digital. There's really no need for printing. I can convert documents to PDFs or do videos. It really helps because it's online. I have to be out of school tomorrow, but I don't have to make copies of things for students or the substitute teacher. I just outline what my students are doing online and the substitute and the students know exactly what they need to be doing.

What is most valuable?

The mastery grid CYPHER Learning is the most important feature. With my curriculum, in Mississippi, we are required to keep up and track as our students master specific objectives and standards. With CYPHER Learning, that process is built-in. I can customize it to my liking, and I have all of that data right at my fingertips. It's amazing.

Similarly, the competency-based learning is also extremely important because, with my curriculum, in the state of Mississippi, funding is a key factor. We have to keep up with how well our students are doing on specific competencies and standards. I've got all of the data and the system backs it up. It's very critical.

Tagging assignments with competencies goes along with the mastery feature. When I'm looking at that mastery list, I can see assignments, lessons, a group of lessons, or a specific quiz I have tagged and I can immediately see which assessments match specific competencies and determine if I need to change things up or develop something a little bit more.

Gamification is another feature that I've recently really gotten into and I have found that my students really enjoy getting points and badges. That reinforcement is critical. One of the things that my school stresses is positive reinforcement for our students. With gamification, my students get that instant gratification. They get specific scores when they do specific tasks within CYPHER Learning and it lets them know. It's a really big motivator for my students.

The gamification aspect is extremely easy to use, as long as you have an idea of what you want to do. The system is very intuitive and you just create your game and your points. Another thing I like about it is that you can retroactively add points for something. You might think, "Hey, I want to give points for a specific task that has already been done." You can go back, create that point system or badge, and it will retroactively award the student who's already done that assignment as well as capture those who have yet to begin.

It's also very easy for students to use gamified learning materials. They just do the work; what they would already be doing. It doesn't take any extra effort for them to be involved in it because it's built into the assignments or the lessons. As long as they're doing their work and engaging with the system, they are rewarded for their participation.

And the reward automation is a time-saver for me. It's a set-it-and-forget-it feature. The system continues working after you set it up and you know that the students will be rewarded. The system is going to make sure that the students are aware that they are participating in it.

The platform is also really good in terms of integrations with other technologies. I use and integrate a lot of video content, with SCORM features, to create automated assignments. There are other websites out there, but CYPHER Learning makes it possible to have everything in-house for me and my students. It's a one-stop shop.

I'm able to manage all of my needs for all of my students on my own. From year-to-year, as I create content, I am able to tweak things or reuse assignments, which cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend on preparing.

What needs improvement?

While the number of apps available for integration with CYPHER Learning has increased over the years, I would love to see this number continue to grow. I believe this would help solidify its position amongst other learning management systems as a viable option for educators and schools.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using CYPHER LEARNING since 2010 or 2011.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I'm extremely impressed, from year to year, with the things that they are doing as far as keeping up with how the platform should look and what it should offer. It's always ahead of where other LMSs are.

How are customer service and support?

They have been very responsive to my needs. There is an online support system that you go to if you're having an issue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was completely straightforward. When I began using CYPHER Learning it was as simple as getting the URL and sharing it with my students. I don't think it could get any simpler than that. Because I'm in a computer lab, I have my students save that web address in a bookmark.

There is minimal maintenance. For any issues that are encountered, CYPHER LEARNING is very responsive.

What was our ROI?

I have absolutely seen a return on investment. It shows students their percentage of completion and I'm getting more students to do more work. They see what they have to do. They'll say, "I'm at this percentage of completion, and this is my mastery so far." The buy-in is worth it to get that from students.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Some of the previous solutions I used were free, but I feel that it's worth it to pay for CYPHER Learning and get that autonomy and creativity and personalization. I feel that students want and need something that is not just the status quo. They want to be able to engage with something that speaks to them, so they're not just trying to check a box on an objective. It actually gets them involved in the process of learning. It gets a student to say, "Ok, this is something I have to do, but I'm really enjoying what I have to do. I get to interact with my teacher and with other students." That was something that some of the other platforms were lacking.

The pricing is worth the peace of mind that it gives teachers, due to the ability to create an experience for their students. It's not just about the assignments they have to do. Teachers can create a narrative and a direction for their students and have them immersed in that environment. Learning is something that all students have to do, but why not make it fun? Why not be able to offer an experience that is engaging and that allows them to participate and add to that narrative?

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I had worked with several different LMSs because, in the state of Mississippi, when you're going to teach my specific subject, you go through training on different LMS platforms. I found that a lot was lacking in those platforms and that CYPHER Learning gives me more autonomy, creativity, and personalization in my class compared to Blackboard, Google Classroom, or Moodle. Now, the state of Mississippi uses Canvas, but I still prefer to use CYPHER Learning.

One of the main things that I really loved when I initially started out with CYPHER Learning was that it was different from everything else out there. They keep up the user interface and it's like an encompassing community for my students. That way, they're not having to go to a lot of different websites for much of what they're doing. I can set it up to minimize distractions and the need to go to different websites to do assignments.

Also, CYPHER Learning serves as an extension of myself, my teaching philosophy, and the experiences that I want to give to my students. When they're working through a lesson, in a sense, they're sitting down and working with me personally, and that's something that I strive to do ahead of time. It may take a few extra minutes, and maybe hours, upfront, to capture that opportunity for my students to be working with me, but it's worth it. So the platform is just an extension of me and I'm able to get all the creativity out there and encourage my students to be as creative in how they interact and engage. I can promote the joy of learning.

Another factor was ease of use. A lot of the other platforms that I used didn't have the intuitiveness that I have with CYPHER Learning. It made me want to explore and use as many features as possible to get the most out of it for my students.

What other advice do I have?

I feel that CYPHER Learning is always ahead of the curve when it comes to educational technology. It's really helpful that they have a roadmap of things that they are looking to implement. They're keeping up with the trends in education. And we are also able to provide feedback directly to them. They're constantly working to improve the platform. I couldn't ask for anything more specific because I feel they're already on top of it. But if there were something that they needed to add, they're always open to suggestions.

My advice would be to look into the ability that CYPHER Learning offers for teachers to create their own paths for their students; the autonomy, creativity, and personalization provided by CYPHER Learning. Also, consider the automation and being able to create content or assessments that work for you and don't add to your time. There are only so many hours in the day for educators, administrators, or people in the industry. It's a platform that works with you to see you through to the goals that you envision.

CYPHER Learning houses everything I need to function, day-to-day, in my classroom.

Without it, we would need three times the staff

What is our primary use case?

We use it to provide online courses for distance learning students.

We have both teachers and admin staff who work with the platform. Teachers can see student submissions and our admin staff can manage our course content and eCommerce.

How has it helped my organization?

We can customize our ordering system so we can have the data that we need to communicate with our students, their families, and our staff.

We can collect surveys, using the LMS platform, from our students on how their courses are going.

The ordering process is automated. When students register for a course, their course is set up automatically. We can manually register them when needed, as needed.

CYPHER Learning has helped by providing a variety of activities to help students get engaged, developing their independence and higher-order thinking skills. The quizzes and tests help keep our students engaged in developing their skills. I would rate the importance of this as 10 out of 10 for our organization.

CYPHER Learning has helped us save time on intervention strategies for students, especially those who need guidance.

We provide a great program and having a top LMS system is essential. Our students love the platform, from what we hear. One of the things that they love about our courses is the LMS system's ease and use.

What is most valuable?

The navigation is easy to use.

It is very easy for educators to communicate with students using the CYPHER Learning messaging system, which is imperative for our organization.

There are many applications available as add-ons. There are so many that we have not used all of them, but are happy to know we have more than we currently need.

It can maintain an infinite database of our students.

The solution is top-notch for tagging classes and assignments. The tagging is great for ensuring that the content is compliant with standards.

What needs improvement?

Work more closely with Cypher customers when launching new versions of the platform before going live.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for 12 years. Our company started delivering programs in 2010, and we started using CYPHER Learning in 2013.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

CYPHER Learning is definitely a stable solution. We have experienced less than 1% downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The platform is set up so there are no capacity limits. Our program can grow as much as we want it to grow. We don't have any constraints around how many more courses we can offer or how many students we can add. There are no constraints around that.

The scalability is infinite. There aren't any limitations on what we can or can't do.

How are customer service and support?

Their tech support is top-notch. When there is an issue, we are always able to find a workaround that meets our specific needs. The tech support team help us with that. An example is using the reporting feature. If there is something that we need in a report and we can't get all the data in the default template of the report, then we can work with the tech support team who will show us how to customize it.

I would rate the technical support as 9.9 out of 10. It is almost perfect.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before we moved to the CYPHER Learning platform, we tried another vendor and it didn't work.

We used another vendor in the beginning, which was low cost. We were a brand new company then, so we used what we could afford at the time. We switched because CYPHER Learning has everything. We were going to have to keep adding to what we had with the previous solution, so it was going to become cost-prohibitive.

I had an IT specialist, who was looking at our current system, recommend CYPHER Learning. He did a little research, and said, "This is the one you need." When we started using them, he was more than right.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

It took just one day to get it up and running. We were up the day that we started using it.

It is so user-friendly. You can create a course, and have that course up the same day. Though, it does depend on how much content is in your course.

What about the implementation team?

One admin was initially needed for the deployment, which does depend on the size of the deployment. Now, we have four admins working on it. There are also teachers who upload content.

What was our ROI?

When I first started, I wanted the enterprise package. We had to build up our student base to get up to the number of students that we needed to be in that enterprise package. Then, we had a 100% return on investment within the first year of using the program.

Our time saving increased by 70%, going from manual to automated.

The solution has definitely helped us reduce our administrative work. It gives us the ability to provide distance learning for students who are not all in the same area, which is valuable.

The amount of time that we need to use the LMS system to quantify things is minimal.

CYPHER Learning has 100% helped us save on costs related to printing materials, textbook acquisitions, and license fees. It is instant for our students when we update or come up with a new version of our programs because we use this platform. If we need to modify a quiz, update a course, or add new material, all our students receive that instantly. There is no reprinting. There are no out-of-pocket costs for us. Also, there isn't a time delay for students.

CYPHER Learning has helped reduce the number of staff needed to manage our learning management system (LMS). It would likely triple our staff and admin if we weren't using it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do a monthly subscription.

It is priced competitively. Their pricing is one of the best in the industry. They are not the cheapest solution, but they are not the most expensive. The value that they provide, for what we pay, is invaluable. There are no add-on costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have been using it for so long, and we wouldn't use a different platform. It is the best platform out there. It has become part of our daily environment, where we use it all day long.

The solution's ability to bridge our student's learning gap is at the top of the industry.

I talk with other schools who discuss their platforms. They always want our platform.

What other advice do I have?

Don't waste a lot of time evaluating other programs. This is the best one out there.

We have plans to increase our usage of CYPHER Learning.

I would rate this solution as 10 out of 10.
