halfway there!
What do you like best about the product?
I like the interface, especially once they redid their platform. The sleek design made me want to use the program.
What do you dislike about the product?
The content was not up to date. There were many times where I had to go to other resources to find publications, articles, media contact info, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater was used to gather news on a specific topic. We realized that communication on the specific topic (sentencing reform) was being talked about in areas that we weren't expecting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not expect to be able to use the app. It didn't integrate well with the online interface.
Not suitable for our current needs
What do you like best about the product?
As a growing company, we need to remain fairly flexible in our outreach/outbound marketing. Once you sign up with Meltwater, you'll find you are pretty well locked in, unless you want to increase your service level. And, if you don't pay close attention to the fine print and cancel not less than 60 days ahead of your anniversary, your service will be automatically renewed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customer service reps don't approach to ask how it's going until your automatic renewal is approaching. Our news releases did not generate any more response than when we were handling that process manually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater has a great reputation, and we based the decision on going with the service mostly on that, but we did not have the budget for the level of service that may have helped us achieve our goals.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Read everything very carefully!
Better than most media monitoring software!
What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater does a good job of finding obscure coverage on niche news sites.
What do you dislike about the product?
On the flipside of that, sometimes big news doesn't quite make it through Meltwater.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Finding things Google/Google Alerts misses.
Meltwater- not my favorite for media monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
The Meltwater customer service is great. It is an easy platform to use and quickly learn.
What do you dislike about the product?
The print clips system Meltwater uses does not pick up any major outlets. I know this is through a second party (Burrells), but I really think they could improve on this. I have also found the database is outdated or has general info@ email addresses for contacts, which of course are useless. The list building system is more complicated and less helpful than Cision.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater helps finds clips (media monitoring) for clients. It only works for online for my clients, and not for print as they use Burrells which will not pick up major outlets such as Conde Nast Traveler, Vogue, Travel & Leisure, etc. It has helped me to find some contacts, but, again, I find the database to be outdated.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use a better print clipping service than Burrells.
Comprehensive media monitoring service.
What do you like best about the product?
Allows you to quickly scan and keep track of news on various channels (print, social media, etc).
What do you dislike about the product?
At the time that we were using it, it was mainly a media monitoring service. However, they now provide other services including media distributions, which is a step in the right direction.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Media monitoring and reports of coverage.
Great for Tracking Mentions
What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater keeps expanding in its services (they just added a sprout social component) but multiple parties at our organization find it useful. It tracks press mentions and social mentions as well us keep track of influencers. You can track news, buzz, and reach through its variant platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
The services are spread out so it's a little disorienting for some admins to understand all the tool capabilities. It's also a little pricey plus your subscription is automatically renewed of 60 days notice is not given. Be aware of the prices when signing on. Sometimes a few of the tools get a little wonky but that usually is fixed without a hitch.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using it for analytics with social media, PR, who's mentioning our organization and which groups we want to track to make sure they're aware of our product.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It can add up but is probably the best software for tracking press mentions. Definitely read the small print before putting in your billing information. Your subscription is automatically renewed of 60 days notice is not given.
Marketing Communications Specialist
What do you like best about the product?
That I could search for recent articles written about a certain topic
What do you dislike about the product?
The media database. I was not able to find producers for segments. It was just a general title
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
media database
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Not a good tool for media database
Obnoxious sales reps, decent product
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the ability to have use other products for TV and print monitoring in tandem with meltwater if they use an rss feed and if you have premium subscriptions to news outlets you can add those via rss feed into the portal, which gives you one portal for all of your media monitoring needs.
I also like the ability to the reach of each given article and to see where it has been picked up.
I also like the ability to the reach of each given article and to see where it has been picked up.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that you have to pay extra to include premium outlets such as the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. I also dislike the aggressive sales calls, and the attempts to up-sell every year, as it is not a cheap product to begin with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I just use the media monitoring side of it, I have not tried any of its other uses although others in my company do.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the ability to sync RSS feeds from other services to create one portal. Also download reports often so you can check all the stats easily.
You can also get more detailed information by downloading the reports than you can just in the portal. It is also possible to go farther back in these reports than just the last 90 days.

Media monitoring platform with a clean interface and some powerful features.
What do you like best about the product?
The platform has a clean interface and powerful search features that can be applied retrospectively.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unable to export search results as a PDF. Seems to be missing a number of content providers that are picked up by competing platforms. News and social are handled separately, which eats into the number of searches we have.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Generally works as a tool for picking up mentions of our brand and other topics we are intereste din.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Conduct a thorough trial and make sure it meets your needs before committing.
Just couldn't get it.
What do you like best about the product?
I would guess that Meltwater is a pretty robust media monitoring tool for the right company.
What do you dislike about the product?
We could never get the news filtering into our searches to be clean and usable. We could never get to a point where we could send out an alert to members of the management team because there was always an extraneous article (or 10) being pulled into any feed we made. I get that "Belden" is a last name and the name of a town, but we could just never get the news we needed no matter how many filters we put in place.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It actually caused more problems than it solved, unfortunately. I spent many hours trying to get it up and running only to have our marketing teams reject it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a common company name, be prepared to spend a lot of time developing filters and keywords to get at the news you want to see.
