What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly interface: Datafold's drag-and-drop interface is easy to use and requires minimal training, allowing teams to quickly get started with data testing and monitoring.

Comprehensive data lineage tracking: Datafold provides a complete view of the data pipeline, making it easy to track the source of issues that arise.

Real-time alerts and visualizations: Datafold alerts users in real-time of any anomalies or issues that occur, allowing them to quickly address and resolve problems.

Pre-built tests and checks: Datafold includes a range of pre-built tests and checks that can be used to ensure data quality and consistency, saving time and effort for data teams.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited integration options: Datafold currently has limited integration options with third-party tools, which may be a drawback for teams that rely on a range of data tools and platforms.

Limited functionality for non-SQL data: Datafold is primarily designed for SQL-based data pipelines, which means that teams working with non-SQL data may need to find alternative tools or workarounds.

Limited control over testing and monitoring: Some users have reported that Datafold's pre-built tests and checks can be too rigid and inflexible, which may limit teams' ability to customize testing and monitoring to their specific needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefits of using Datafold can include improved data quality, increased efficiency, and reduced risk of errors and data inconsistencies. By solving common data pipeline problems and providing a comprehensive suite of data testing and monitoring tools, Datafold can help teams to more effectively manage their data and achieve their business objectives.

What do you like best about the product?
Datafold helps in reducing the manual overhead of performing repetitive tasks. The tool offers various ways to implement automated testing and comparison.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing is a bit high. There are alternate tools in the market which offers the functionalities in much less price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It takes a lot of time to validate the data when we migrate it to another server. Datafold helps in minimizing the time taken to do that repetitive task.

Fantastic product for data quality and cataloging

  • November 18, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datafold has a simple UI and navigation with powerful features underneath. The lineage product allows users to deeply explore how tables and data assets relate to each other, and easily see the dependency graph for a given table or column. This makes understanding the impact of data issues or outages very straightforward. Their datadiff product has been critical for data migrations that require careful orientation to detail. Their cataloging product is in its early stages, but is already helping us search and document the data assets we have, which makes onboarding new data scientists or data-saavy teammembers easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's ripe opportunity for datafold to continue to increase the integrations that they support. I'd love to see both Mode and Tableau integrations added as downstream asset integrations. Search on the catalogue is sometimes slow and clunky. The alerts functionality is pretty basic today and could use with more granular controls anda nd desintations. They're still early on in product development so I expect all of these things to improve over the next year!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using Datafold to address data quality, visibility, and cataloging. It is also helpful to us in data incident management, in that it allows us to understand the impact of data quality issues. We are already realizing benefits by leveraging Datafold in our data onboarding process for new employees -- it's much easier to have them explore Datafold than SELECT * LIMIT 100 from all the relevant database tables they're trying to learn about.

Great data catalog and lineage tool for medium-size teams

  • October 12, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to start with the tool. Datafold team provides excellent support - always reachable and ready to help. They offer a reasonable pricing model.
What do you dislike about the product?
While generally, UI is quite good, it has a few minor bugs/glitches and sometimes feels quite raw. Though as it's mentioned above, the support team is always there to collect feedback and follow up on issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
While the tool is famous for its "Data Diff" feature, we mainly use Data Catalog and Lineage features. It helps us move our "tribal knowledge" about the data to a centralized place and use Datafold as a single source of truth about the data meaning at our company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Works well with Redshift, easy to set up

Easy to use for comparing queries for updates

  • October 08, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how I can easily see the output differences of two queries, how many duplicates, and how many nulls there are. It makes it easier to drill down to the source of discrepancy. The lineage tool is also beneficial to see dependencies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a dislike, but just a suggestion if we can also go down to the per-field view of the lineage tool so we know which tables our metrics are coming from. This is particularly useful for tables with aggregated data and metrices from multiple tables.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Datafold when updating queries when we change data sources or make improvements/additions. It's easier to see affected fields because we can see the columns of two queries next to each other. I used to run and download sections of the query and randomly compare columns for that, and re-run queries on the console to check for different filters.

A key DataOps tool

  • October 07, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Although Datafold provides several features, their "data diff" and CI integration (Github) is the one that stands out the most. I don't know of any other commercial or open-source dataOps tool which provides this feature or the integration as nicely as Datafold does.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing stands out as a "dislike". It provides products and functionality which does what they claim.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datafold helps solve several problems with benefits such as 1) Datafold Datadiff CI with Github surfaces data value and schema downstream issues before it hits production, 2) Datafold Alerts with Slack monitors for known potential issues, data volume anomalies, and business rules and 3) Datafold Column Lineage provides excellent ad hoc query insights into where and how of individual column usage throughout our dbt models.

Great potential to transform your operations

  • October 07, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datafold has a broad set of features, and the support team has been very responsive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setup is not as easy as it was billed to be. We've also encountered a fair number of bugs, and UI performance is slow at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted an easy way to understand our data flows and view data diff as a great tool to understand how code changes translate into data changes. We have yet to enable data diff, but lineage has already proved helpful as we refactor some of our pipelines. Being able to pull descriptions in yamls into a more widely accessible location helps improve understanding of our data in our organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The product is still a bit immature, but the combination of features is unique and powerful. I think, in particular, data diff is a standout. As they work out the kinks and we get it fully integrated into our workflows, I expect it will be very impactful for us. Having a widely accessible place for our organization to understand our data fully will reduce friction and free up resources for higher-value work. I expect as they get more traction in the market the tool will get even better and hopefully easier to setup.
