Enclosure modification experience
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to make measurements in .STL files.
Generating solidwork files which can be worked on in Solidworks software - this enabled sharing with collaborators.
Generating solidwork files which can be worked on in Solidworks software - this enabled sharing with collaborators.
What do you dislike about the product?
Inability to edit an imported solidworks file generated in Solidworks. I wanted to modify parts drawn by a partner in Solidworks, and was unable to. This would be a very good feature to have, if possible
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating and modifying enclosures for circuit boards for technology capability demonstrations. Having onshape enabled us to iterate through designing, 3D printing, and getting feedback quickly in the matter of 1 or 2 days.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If flexibility and adaptability to uncertainties, ease of use, and portability is important to you, Onshape is a great choice. I love that the platform is cloud-based and requires no special maintenance. As a part of a fast-moving organization, I am happy to that we have chosen Onshape.
The future of CAD.
What do you like best about the product?
Cloud-based tools that can be used anywhere, and on any system (Windows, Mac, Linux). There is no need to use Solidworks ever again. True real-time collaboration on projects. App store to add 3rd Party tools and functionality when needed. Built-in version control that will change your life. Works on iOS and Android so you can present ideas and edit documents to people while on the go. The tools are easy to use, and training webinars are brilliant. The cost is low for such a fully featured toolkit.
What do you dislike about the product?
I want some more "industrial design" tools that allow one to push and pull solid surfaces. There are lots of ways to design complex surfaces in Onshape, so this has not been a significant roadblock.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creation of a new consumer product. Building tools to support the manufacturing pipeline of the new product. Preliminary packaging design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is the future of CAD. Compare Onshape with Solidworks and Fusion360. Solidworks is expensive, fully featured, but rather messy and old-school. Fusion360 is easy and inexpensive, perfect for many people. Onshape is the right cost-effective tool if you need to build something that will actually be manufactured. Plus, if you are on a team of people collaborating on a project, then there is little question Onshape is the place to be.
Great and powerful CAD system. Resolved many issue we had.
What do you like best about the product?
I like the format of the Onshape "files". Everything stored in one place including parts, assemblies, drawings, etc. Also, sharing the progress of the project with management via links without them needing any software installed on their computers or even mobile devices.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the main layout would have some more distinction in terms of the different selections. Maybe some color would help things standout and easier to find especially for new users. It would help get acclimated more quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data management!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a trial and watch some tutorials, you will be sold.
Spectacular software
What do you like best about the product?
I love that there is nothing to download, it automatically updates, there is constantly new content being rolled out, there is no "save" button, I can work simultaneously as my co-workers, everything is synced across all devices, I can add a comment to a point, line, or face, I can share designs with customers without them needing an account or downloading anything, and the top-down approach to design.
What do you dislike about the product?
When I have +100 features, it slows down. The errors messages are ambiguous.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Iteration is FAST! It's seamless to add features across multiple parts. We can design and 3D print in a single day without batting an eye.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's life changing. I don't want to over-hype it, but give the free version a try at the very least. The full software is free indefinitely as long as your files are public.
Onshape...great CAD anywhere
What do you like best about the product?
Knowing that Onshape had to deliver parametric MCAD on par with competitors, I was drawn to the browser based, work and collaborate anywhere aspect of the program and use this for all of my projects. I also enjoy the different and improved methods to build part geometry. The strategy of a master sketch is unique but powerful. The way Onshape allows you to pick from sections of the master sketch make it easier to collect related geometry to simplify the process and maintain a parametric model. I also like the fact that the program is browser based. I do not need to worry about hardware upgrades or installing updates or patches. The other strategic benefit is that Onshape does not lock you out of using new features with a downgraded version of the program. This is a limitation with other competing programs. I have used Onshape for exporting to 3D print parts without any problem. The workflow is straightforward and convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside is in re-thinking how to build part geometry to optimize for integrating into very larger and complex assemblies. This does, however, help me to be more efficient in the long run. This is probably more of a recommendation than dislike but I would like to see a slicer built into Onshape to allow direct 3D printing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape helps me stay in touch with my customers and partners from anywhere. This is the main benefit for me.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy to use and collaborate with customers and your team
3D CAD 2.0
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of collaboration between colleagues and clients without software or sending files
What do you dislike about the product?
Our internet connection can sometimes be slow which can cause slight delays but its not a big issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Excellent for collaboration without concerns creating problems with files. We love the way software updates are automatically carried out without any action required and the rate of improvements in the software is extremely quick.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
go for it
Professional Use
What do you like best about the product?
GIT style Version Control, Comparing, Merging.
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes time to load relatively large models.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were using Github in conjunction with Sourcetree for versio control during design and development. It had a lot of overhead. This overhead is largely reduced because of the in-built system.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is easy to use, version control is best in class. Customer support is better than any other CAD software out there.
Great experience
What do you like best about the product?
Being able to work on my phone. I am able to have a phone call and operate The Onshape app all on cellular service.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to work without internet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration is significantly easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it. It’s worth it!
Reliable cloud CAD.
What do you like best about the product?
No installation is necessary, can run the application on any internet connected device with the proper web browser.
What do you dislike about the product?
The 2D drafting module needs some work. There are still issues with GD&T and datum cal outs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Have been able to internalize a lot of design work that we were formerly paying for.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be ready to change your thought process and be a bit frustrated at the start but find yourself pleasantly surprised after the first 1 or 2 weeks of use.
Onshape works well for average CAD requirements
What do you like best about the product?
The accessibility from any computer that has internet access and a web browser
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally the app freezes (fails to load a part studio/drawing/assembly) and the document needs to be re-opened
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Onshape to generate product designs for clients, and for performing FEA in third party apps. Benefits are that it is easy to expand with Onshape (easy to change the number of seats as required as the company employee count changes)
