OnShape makes leading edge 3D cad available to the masses.

What do you like best about the product?
The online processing is one of the best features. This allows you to work from multiple locations on multiple devices and it also allows you to show customers drawings without them having any software.
The price (if you chose a pro subscription) is less than the maintenance fee for other leading edge packages without the up front cost.
No backups required.
No saving of files because everything gets saved.
You can use one seat license if you want since no installation on a machine is required. Multiple people can use the same license at different times from their own machine.
The large quantity and ease of access to training is outstanding.
The frequent updates which add surprising numbers of features is impressive.
If you submit a ticket for a change or feature, you are not only very likely to get it but they tell you when it is available! Try getting that from anywhere else on the planet!
Upgrades are all seamless, invisible, and free.
The list of pluses goes on and one with this package.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the rendering is slow, I suppose depending on the load at the server at the time. But "slow" meaning 15 seconds, not 10 minutes. Most of the time it is quite fast.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was previously using 2D cad because I could not afford to purchase Solid Works for 7K plus maintenance fee each year. That wasn't an option. When I really needed 3d rendering I was using Sketchup which is absolutely junk compared to this. I tried the 360 product from Autocad for awhile until my free trial ran out and was not impressed at all. It is not nearly as easy to use as Onshape.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You can use the free version which has just about all the features of a pro subscription sans some security features. Even the basic training is free and you can find lots of training on YouTube also.

Extremely versatile and always available

What do you like best about the product?
Browser CAD allows me to make a drawing anywhere I have WiFi and doesn't load my computer down with extra stuff.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing!! I am continuing to find new things and I love them all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Design. Drawing creation is so user-friendly that I find myself closing Autocad and opening Onshape to make a document.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely consider this as an alternative to your ACAD, Fusion, Inventor or Solidworks. I've used them all and this is fast and convenient.

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to manage projects. Onshape has a great level of iterations option.
What do you dislike about the product?
Surfacing isn't there yet. For a product designer they lack ability to form and manipulate shapes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
communication between designers

Cloud CAD has so many advantages over traditional CAD, it's crazy.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Cloud and Revision management is great. I also find the interface very clean and refreshing. It's going to take some skill to keep it this uncluttered as more features are added.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of features. Onshape is always adding new ones and has many that are already uniquely better than other systems, but there's still a lot to add, and there are still projects I wouldn't dare take on using Onshape only. Surfacing is still lacking (I'm Industrial Design, so this matters a lot), parting line draft is pretty critical for injection molded part design.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm making all kinds of things professionally and personally. I'm making plastic parts, 3D printed parts, metal parts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try the free version

Cloud based cad

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
No files! Structuring a project in Onshape is so much easier than any thing we've used in the past. Having multiple engineers working together without the handcuffs of checking things out and locking the up the design process.

Working with parts imported from the cloud blends in seamlessly and in an organized fashion. There's no issues with files in the download folder while my design is in it's design folder. What's pack'n go, what'd that do?

It's always there, no matter where I am. I don't have to be planted at my CAD station to get work done.

The community is positive and very helpful. It's the best environment for mechanical engineers.
What do you dislike about the product?
More people using it.

I'd like manufacturers to embrace the technology freeing me up from BOM & drawings.

I want to finish up a layout, click a button and have my parts arrive at my door step the next door.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designs for motorcycle accessories. Working fixture designs and moving towards automation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
absolutely

I enjoy using Onshape

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape work in the cloud. I do not loose any information. I do not need to think in the archives structures, how to save, If I change the name or the file. I can consult the information in my cellphone, in any computer in any place. I can work in any computer, I can use any operative system, If the file is big or small the performance is good (with a little exceptions).
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functionality is not available, the drawing is too limit, and I can not add my own custom profiles in weldments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I design machines, molds or fixtures. I can use a professional CAD with a accessible price. It too easy show information with customer or provider.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The interface is very sobrius.
I recommend a lot this application, but I do not have success to convince at anybody to change at this platform. I think that the inexpert people do not understand al the advantage.
Some functionality that you do not have jet.
Invite at customers to made some training to other users about how they solve some real problem in Onshape

Essential tool for the Toolmaking Trade

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape has given me the flexibility to work with any device I have at my disposal. My Toolshop can review designs with a Chromebook, so there is no need to have Race Horse computers to do and review CAD data. Also, Onshape has the tools to do the things I have been trying to get Solidworks to do for years and still does not do. Teaching Onshape to my toolmakers has also been seamless. We are a better-informed company because of Onshape.
What do you dislike about the product?
Onshape is Internet dependant; however that has never slowed us down due to the technology with internet availability, so we use a different internet source. I do wish we had more sketch tools in the drawing mode. There are times when construction lines and circles can aid in clarity, but we have a workaround for that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Speed of design, and capability to communicate with various people. Also, seamless translations of CAD data from other CAD Systems has been a plus.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ease of use, Cost of usage, Many Tutorials to aid in learning the product, 3D party add-ons that improve capability.

Onshape is a game-changer for both new makers and seasoned engineers

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is intuitive with a fantastic and modern UI. Tutorials are well thought out and recorded. The feature-set and speed of execution is better than anything else out there.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's pricey for an infrequent maker, even if well worth it. The ability to import STL or OBJ models and work with them is confusing if not impossible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Countless problems. When I need a part for something I can quickly design it, 3d print it, and iterate as needed. It's faster than sketching.

Excellent Small Business CAD software

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The product is easily accessible online and has all the functions required to perform our daily needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
File and part structure can be a little confusing at first. It takes a little time to get acclimated to the structure to best manage files and parts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to import any drawings or models from vendors. I am able to store non-CAD data with a given project and keep these items together.

Sweet Way to do CAD!

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
built in collaborative nature. There are not collaborative tools; the whole thing is a collaborative tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
3rd party apps need to be pay as you go option (similar to AWS where you pay per service that you use)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Agile design process. Sharing info between designers, vendors, project managers, customers and sales
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for it! The more users the better it will get.
